In many countries, state prosecutors would have opened a case against Will for his slap (the victim pressing charges or not would not matter), he would be at least fined if not maybe imprisoned 8) Will Smith is a coward, even his Oscar apology is fake, he got a standing ovation after using physical violence an he went partying after the incident.

It really makes my stomach hurt how so many people think this is okay for whatever reason. One thing I have to say is, I give mad props to Chris. I have elevated respect for him more than ever. The gentlemanly action to take in a situation like this would have been for Will to simply reach over and hold his wife in loving support while simply shaking his head at Chris's joke. That simple, gentlemanly action would have spoken louder, to his wife and audience, than any actions or words by Will. See, acting like a gentleman has been mostly lost in this day and age. It's a shame. Being a gentle man (gentleman) doesn't imply weakness but maturity, refinement, and class.

Whoopi, You are one of my favorite people in this world, and I usually agree with your views. We even share the same birthdate. You are very influential, and you missed a huge opportunity to cry out against violence. I'm so disappointed you didn't use that opportunity to say, "Physical violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated on any level or for any reason." Being mad or having built up anger doesn't excuse or explain physical violence; point, blank, and period. One of the reasons why we have so much black on black crime is because, to many, it's no big deal. Black mothers will continue to weep as they lose their children to violence until a clear message is sent that it's unacceptable and will not be tolerated; no matter the culprit. Do you have any idea of how many of our black boys and men are in prison or in their grave because someone "disrespected" them, and they responded in violence? If this had been a white man who got up and boldly walked on stage and slapped Chris or any other black man because he said something offensive, your response and the response of many others would have been different. I'm not playing the race card. I'm calling a thing A Thing! You, I, and the rest of the world should be outraged. There should be an outcry. I'm a 58 year old black woman, and this comment is my outcry. Will earned the award, so he should be allowed to keep it. However, he should have spent that night in someone's jail, and he should be suspended from the Academy Awards. By the way, I'm a huge fan of Will Smith as a actor. The man is brilliant. But brilliant or not, you DON'T violently put your hands on people! He snapped? The only things in this world that should be snapped or snapping are turtles and beans. Snapping is an excuse people use to justify violence. Still unacceptable. If any of us have anger or unforgiveness building up within us, we need to be proactive and get help. See a therapist. I promise you, you'll be glad you did. If you're not, see another one. My point is this, hold yourself accountable by getting the help you need.

The PRIVILEGE of ‘celebrity and wealth’ allowed Will to assault Chris on stage, sit back down, and get back on stage to accept an award as if nothing happened. This is not model behavior and Will Smith needs to be held accountable, even if Chris Rock’s joke ‘hit a nerve’. This situation is just embarrassing 🙈BUT in the same breath, Comedians need to reevaluate their desire to joke about people’s physical appearance. This is a reminder that certain jokes with certain people evoke a (sometimes uncontrollable) emotional response.

@@sabercat5490 I disagree. And as a person who struggles with my mental health (and emotional trauma) it's really annoying to me when people try to justify violent behavior with the excuse that the person is probably suffering and their behavior is a "cry for help". It's not. People who ACTUALLY deal with mental health issues are far more likely to harm themselves than anyone else. Violent people are usually bullies who get angry when others don't kowtow to them the way they want. It's about entitlement and ego, not emotional trauma.
@sabercat5490

@@eklectiktoni I am not making an excuse for his violent behaviour. I do believe Will could have handled the situation much differently. However, not everyone is able to respond to pent up anger, sadness and frustration in the same way as others and just becuase you and others do not resort to violence due to have mental disabilites or suffered trauma does not mean there arent persons who are out there that are like that and are in desperate need of help, to help properly express those actions without violence and to slowly become relieved of the trauma. Also because people like that exist that doesnt make them "unhinged" like you described nor does it make them a bully. Especially because the only reason for his response was to escetially defend his wife's feeling by being a "man" about it. The two, that being Jada and Will have had a very rough relationship and this maybe one of the ways he was trying to prove things to her. When more than likely she doesnt really care. Which is why i said he needs help cuase he is in, at least in my opinion a very toxic relationship. He said so himself. "Love makes you do crazy things". Perhaps he just needs to leave her and be by himself to find himself before things get more out of control as it stands. Keep in mind I am saying all this as to why i say he needs help NOT to defend his violent actions.

As a black man myself, i think its heartbreaking that the first year the Oscar's was so inclusive and diverse...that one black man waged violence against another...bringing the whole race down when it was supposed to show... that we finally made it as a race...in awards for excellence. It gives people white people the opportunity to say...this is why they were never invited to the Oscar's or even Golden globes before. Will Smith would never have the guts to slap a white comedian...but felt it was ok to slap a fellow black...a much loved and smaller fellow black actor and comedian at that.

And what was said before I guess when Chris did before. It's personal. In my view he has this problem with whomever would talk about his wife that way. I don't see why it matters that it's Chris? Chris is the one who said it - that's why he got the blowback by Will. It was personal.

First if all: Ah yes. Because white people are the only racists in the world. Second: Race shouldnt be an excuse to not include someone in something as ceremonial as the Oscar's, and it hasnt been that way in awhile. This isnt the first inclusive and diverse Oscar's ceremony. And I dint see this as putting a bad taste in anyones mouth about a particular race, of someones bright enough they'd know that just cause ur black or white or Asian, doesnt mean u act like every other one in ur race. This ceremony just showed Will Smith's Character as a human being, and its disappointing.

Whoopi says that Will Smith just “snapped” under pressure. This was not a reflection of stress. It was ugly behavior, narcissism. Thinking he shouldn’t have to have any jokes directed at him. If you look at his expression on his way back to the seat, you can see this egotistical smug look. He was proud of what he did. This was not stress. It was ego.
