"Fail early, fail often, fail forward!" Love this Maxwell quote! I remember someone once told me that success and failure are like panning for gold... Its an activity where failure simply means you gotta get back too it and keep looking for success until you find it! And who will the MOST successful person be? The one who does the most "panning!" Thanks, Derek!

I love Will Smith channel! He is an amazin hustler and he always has some wisdom to share there! This "fail often" concept is something I see everywhere and loving your failures, maybe even more than your successes, is a trait that I've seen consistently in successfull people.

Thanks for this encouragement. The way I was brought up failing meant I was a failure. It became so painful to fail because it reinforced that I am failure. When I took photography courses in school, I had a teacher who always told us when we didn’t get the exposure on a shot right, to look at it as “information.” To take that information and learn from it. It made a huge difference in my shots and my life.

Failing forward is an art and a learned skill. This year I've been training myself to do it inspired by The UC Berkley Design profs that wrote the book Designing your Life- who use that as a motto for the school of design. The focus is on ACTION... Which will lead to "failures" which they classify as "reiterations". I love the idea that a failure is just iPhone 1 iPhone 2, iPhone 3 ...it's just an iteration in the process of moving forward! You're on the right track here Derek and it's a pretty uninhabited one for now until people don't mind Laying across it when they fall flat on their face. Forward. That's a win.

Hey, Derek, I've followed Will Smith since *before* the tv show, when he was just rapping as the Fresh Prince with DJ Jazzy Jeff! Thanks for recommending another excellent resource for pursuing a mindset for success, in business and in life!

Fail early. Fail often. Fail forward. I’ve heard it said that when you succeed you party but when you fail you ponder and that’s why you learn so well from your failures. We suffer from comparing ourselves to other people’s highlight reels. We don’t see all their failures and all the effort they put into getting there. We celebrate Babe Ruth’s hitting record but forget he was the leader in strike outs for five different seasons. He was an all or nothing kind of guy with a philosophy of “Never let the fear of striking out get in your way.” Too many online gurus have some sort of failure fetish to prove how far they have come but those lessons, the ability to move through the fear of failure, to struggle to get better, those are the things that move people from good to great.

I did a Tedx talk and it was not great at all. But then I realized, if you aim high you're gonna fail hard. That's ok! Thanks Derek, always good to talk about this.

I love his positivity and his insight. He truly is someone that lives what he believes. I think that he is the type of person that would be exactly the same at home as he is out on the red carpet. I love that quote too. Fail Forward! Hell yes to 2018!

I have a huge mental block with failure and being wrong. It ends up causing conflict but it is so difficult to overcome!

I like it. If you don't put yourself out there and open yourself up to failure, you won't learn and move forward.

I see failure as face planting. Like walking down the street, tripping and landing face first in gravel. You can either lay there and cry or get up, dust yourself off and keep going. Failure isn’t bad, it’s feedback. But boy can it feel uncomfortable.
@OurKitchenClassroom6 жыл бұрын
A face plant like that sounds a little more than just uncomfortable, Diana! But, you're absolutely right. You've got to pick yourself up, dist yourself off, and take that feedback with you moving forward!

Our Kitchen Classroom by Karen M. Ricks...haha...yah I guess when you describe face planting like that it sounds pretty ruff. But that’s how things feel in the moment. :)

Yeah, I think it was the gravel part that made me shudder! I had this horrible image of a person picking rocks out of their teeth! Hahahaha!!! It certainly can feel that painful in the moment, but that's why the lessons are so memorable, right?!

Agreed that people generally just want to hear positive feedback. However, I don't give unsolicited (negative) feedback unless someone is asking for it. Genuinely curious: is there anything wrong with that?

I'm unsubscribing because you never like or reply to my comments. Makes me feel like a fan-girl, and that makes me feel dumb. Good luck with your endeavors Derek, you look like a fun dude I'd hang out with in real life.
