“Moreover” can be replaced by any number of words. “Plus”, “And”, “Also”. I’ve been trying to explain to my twin brother that his obsession with high fallutin’ words when’s simple one will do is making him get disliked.

It is obnoxious when people have their hands in front of their face and is distracting. Especially the plucking thing. They are talking about what they ate this morning and the busy repetitive movements look childish rather and like they watch a video telling them to do stupid, unnecessary gestures.

It doesn’t apply as long as you’re deliberately and consciously using big words, eg, Instead of a long-winded explanation about how someone’s speech creates a divide, you can just call it “polarizing”

I always have issues with customers renewing their lease. They may have a 24 month lease with us and I feel like I’m fighting them to make a payment for each month. I’ll confirm “hey is this a good time to make a payment” and they’ll say yes and then just not ever make contact on that day. And then I’ll sit there and call them for days until they pick up, if they even do pick up, and get a payment. I don’t feel like it should be this hard.

Unfortunately, this doesn't explain what to do when your "friends" and family are caught up in their own worlds and thoughtless to your efforts to succeed. I have had a pretty good relationship with friends and family for decades. Starting my own channel has been a real eye opener. 🙁

this is so spot on Derek! just last week I passed up someone's "50% off upsell" because I was just getting to know their brand and didn't want to buy anything yet. Then I "missed" the sale and the item went to full price. I actually was interested in the product, but I just didn't want to pay full price anymore, knowing that this coach offers it at 50% off in different situations, definitely devalued the worth of it in my mind & she lost a sale!

Hey Derek, I'm proving your point as I'm here in 2024 lol! I'm curious what your take would be now with the updated Facebook and also your take on IG. Loving all your videos and blog! I was bummed your freebies and courses are no longer up ~ but anyway all your advice still feels super relevant, thanks again for the great advice and perspectives :)

When you see a passion and a working towards a goal, the parent have no excuse not to support the child. If the child is confused, get them some career counselling or go over what their interests are, join some groups and support that avenue. The only parents that don't support their kids are selfish parents. Every avenue I was interested in was shut down by my parents even if that would bring me closer to my goal. I can speculate, but really have no idea what their problem was. I think they had not much hope in me which is ridiculous, especially in this day and age that pretty much any path is validated. My parents not only created my low self-esteem but made sure that I never grew. I had to separate myself from them to begin to find out who I really was. I discovered I was creative and sold some of my stuff, something they would have tried to prevent because when I did begin to explore, they were disinterested. It's really sad but in life, you gotta learn to find your own validation. Big hug to those peeps out there struggling with this.

I don't believe I ever use "big words" for the sake of it. I use whatever word conveys the meaning I'm trying to convey. Meaning can be subtle and for people that don't have a clear concept of the word, it can seem pompous, but really a lot of people like me will use them without realizing that other people have a hard time with them.

Chiding someone who "utilizes" multisyllabic vocabulary only proves an audience's feelings of inadequacy. It's a hit on their ego. You can trace this behavior back to grade school. Remember how the smart kids with good grades were constantly made fun of as if they were the idiots. "Duuur, I'm soooo smart. Look at me, teacher." If you want to appeal to the averages, by all means...sound stupid to be perceived as smart. I can haz english. Lolwut. Verbing noun make good smart. People are pathetic and weak. It's disgusting watching them practice manipulation techniques manufactured by the social engineers who profit off their stupefaction. When you solely use tiny words, your brain thinks in tiny words. Tiny movements. Lack of detail. Absence of thought. Trading it all for expediency and convenience, you cripple your own critical thinking faculties. Drawing comparisons between conducted studies and your own opinion of what that means shows how dumb you are. The studies proved nothing about the REASON users of big words were thought to be stupid, only that this was the common perception. You just ran with it... without even thinking. You call yourself a wordsmith and sound like any other tool on facebook, making assumptions and jumping to conclusions you clearly don't understand. Ingsoc much? Can you even language, bro? Irony confused for coincidence? Dictionary have? Brain use?
