Don't worry if you've spilled alcohol on your wood furniture and noticed white marks - these aren't permanent. The stains are actually due to damage to the sealant coating, not directly to the wood itself.
And don't despair; this may be something that doesn’t require sanding to fix the issue. Instead, you can refinish the wood simply using a soft cloth and your cooking oil in the kitchen to regain the beauty of the timber.
Here's how to deal with spilled vodka, whiskey, or other alcoholic liquors on your wood table...
Step 1- 0:42
To remove a stubborn stain, saturate a cloth with cooking oil (olive oil, coconut oil, canola oil) or wood-specific oils like lemon. With light pressure and circular motions of your hand, apply the oil to the stained area.
Step 2- 0:56
To erase the stain, you may need to take a few moments to massage the oil into it. If you don't have enough on your cloth, add some more.
Step 3- 1:08
When the white vodka stain on the wood has been entirely eradicated, use a clean portion of fabric to wipe off any surplus oil. For ultimate results, and if necessary, be sure to scrub away any residual oil afterward as well.
Keep in mind, if your attempts to remove the stain with oil fail, or you don't have any on hand, furniture polish may be another option.
If neither of these options works, it's time to refinish the area. This shouldn’t intimidate you - simply place painter’s tape around the stained region on your wood furniture and apply stripper to take off all pre-existing coatings. Then wipe with fresh polyurethane sealant for a polished look.
