The Audi 4.2 looks a better fit than I thought! Since it will be a track car and it will break stuff on an engine that will be a real bear to service, make the mount up something that lets you drop the engine/trans for most service past an oil change! Take your time, get it right- most of us didn't come here because you are a fast, rapid fire builder but because you do really neat,great stuff! And then there is Mrs, Jeff- wouldn't wan t to leave her out! Best to both of you! FR

I wish I'd seen this sooner as I could have pointed you to my Facebook page V8 Boxster Build in the UK as it might have helped show you how I tackled some of these issues to get mine up and running! I did modify my gearbox mounts to allow the exhaust to run 'through' it. Been working fine for circa 4 years now and have some future mods planned, including going boosted.....

Don't use the Audi rubber mounts use a leaf spring bush or swing arm bush and make your own. Move the engine back at least 20 mm from where the transmission mounts line up. You should probably make a cradle that replaces the engine and transmission mounts and use it to mount a bash plate / bucket under the sump to make the race marshals happy
@osnoynek3 жыл бұрын
I would double check your strat for motor mount. I feel like if you mount to any suspension mount you could change suspension feel on that corner. Make it non responsive or act differently. I may be wrong but probably depends on setup exactly.

No, the car didn't feel different, and the power curve was the same. I am not sure.

@@HomeBuiltByJeff Interesting, maybe just a dyno setting/anomaly then? It's awesome to hear that it's meeting expectations. Headers will definitely help "the numbers" I reckon. I have a nice set of George's racing headers (1 & 5/8") to go on my build later this year.

Hi Jeff. Love the work. How about remaking that gearbox mount in a way so that the exhaust runs through it instead of over it? I've seen many hotrodders do this with cars on air that cannot have an exhaust under the frame, so they notch or cut a hole through it and weld supports back in. I recently saw Finnegan do this on his slammed C10 Chevy

If the transmission is separate to the diff or the diff doesn't use a clutch type lsd put some Teflon based gear oil treatment in it to see if it will stop leaking. I highly recommend it for open and torsten type diffs

You would be better off with some stronger engine mounts. The original Audi rubber is too soft and will allow the engine to move too much in the car. It most likely is softer then the gearbox mounts from the Porsche. Ideally they would be equally hard.

The Porsche mount is similarly soft

There's an inherent flaw with the Audi V8 with the turbo filters, they clog and when they do, it blows shit up. They're under the intake at the center of the engine. You'd be wise to tear it down before dropping her in, the filter can be eliminated alltogether as it has a high liklelyhood of clogging and failing. Have a look for yourself here >>>kzbin.info/www/bejne/fILCmKZ9nciFqrc

In regards to the exhaust. Tuned length runners are not exactly necessary for maximum performance. And the optimal length varies with engine capacity and pipe diameter. On an NA engine you want to pair cylinders so that one helps scavenge gasses from the other , the tuned length is supposed to optimize this especially at certain RPM that the vehicle may never operate at except flat out on a race track, Other designs might be a lot better for street use and even on some tracks. Alternative designs are A long runner log. this is where pipes almost like zoomies come from each port then join in a very large log, the pipes are about half to a third the length of a tuned length header depending on what power and toque curves you're after or if you have turbos. Another is a timing paired header , This is where you join two or three cylinders based on when they fire so that the pulses don't conflict . you use a runner that is between a third and half the length of a tuned length and join them into a collector that is more than two or three times as large as each runner.

Hi, Thanks for the series. This, to me, is your most interesting current project; the Audi transplant seems very possible. Unfortunately the Alfa project, again in my view, has become a bit of a hack-job; too much cutting and not enough considered fabrication. The Boxster should result in a solid, viable car without a lot of bodging. Keep up the good work.
@stuartd97413 жыл бұрын
If you've watched project Binky they're race engineers and they sometimes have to re-do previous work. This Alfferrari is a one-off bespoke car there will be a bit of chopping and changing as the project progresses. Whereas the Roxster is just an engine swap. Still alot of work but not as complex project.
