This was one of the songs that we sang at our family reunion in West Virginia. I never paid much attention to the lyrics until my Dad died. Then I listened to this one and man did I cry. Such a beautiful version.

Mairead's name is pronounced MA-RAID. She's the fiddler with the Irish group ALTAN. Her young husband is the guitar player seated on the left (name escapes). I'm pretty sure that the awesome 'cordeen player is Phil Cunningham, brother of the late Johnny Cunningham. ALTAN did a concert here in Boulder a few years back and then showed up at the pub down the street where I was fortunate enough to video them in a REAL setting. It was night to remember.

This helps get out the emotions that get bottled up when I think of my Aunt Emilie who died not all that long ago. The long haired woman sure looks a lot like Gweneth Paltrow. :-) All the women are wonderful singers. The band did this song justice. Thank you for that. This song has been sung by many in my family. In love, in death this song just fills the spirit with all that is needed.

The bald guy is Jay Ungar,an American fiddle player. The other one is of course Scottish fiddler Aly Bain. The film was from the BBC T/V series The Transatlantic Sessions which I seem to remember was made in Scotland and broadcast in the mid Nineties.Lovely set of programmes and beautiful music performed by wonderful people.Who was the lady bass player?.Much prettier than Danny Thompson who I think also appeared in this series!
