I'm optimistic for this for no other reason than it's going to force the market to standardise on DD and that benefits everybody. I think the Carbon Fibre thingy, the 8Nm upgrade & light rim I think this will perform really well.

100% the less weight handling off it will improve its performance. It is also a great starting point to move to from a g29 920 which is 2nm. It's a brilliant move from Fanatec.

@@untrainedprofessionals2374 I do wish though they release an in between version from this and dd1. I’m willing to spen around $600 for just the base but not $1200 for the big boys. Just wanted to add, the force you feel in your arms is proportional to the torque, but inversely proportional to the diameter of the rim. So if you get the new wheel with 8Nm, get the 270mm rim, it will be equivalent to 10Nm on a 330mm rim. Also, smaller and lighter wheel means faster changes of rotation direction.

The genius is that by making the base 5nm upgradeable to 8nm with a booster power supply, you can draw even more people in. I'd probably opt for 8nm out of the gate but if you're coming from TM or G29 5nm should be plenty initially.

I've recently been getting more dissatisfied with the gritty feel of my current G29 wheel and liked the look of the CSL Elite, and its smoother belt-drive operation. I have an artificial right shoulder joint and a right wrist that hasn't healed properly after being fractured, so high torque wheels aren't for me. Then the CSL DD was announced and its 5Nm limit sounds perfect for my situation. I've always liked the idea of a DD wheel but didn't want to purchase one only to have to dial its torque down close to minimum. Your video has helped me make up my mind to go for the CSL DD, so thanks.

Sold! I'm going to upgrade my CSW V2.0 workhorse to a CSL DD. I will probably buy the +3nm power update for 8nm total. iirc, my CSW has about 6 to 7 nm and I often run that at 80 - 100% so the change in actual strength should be manageable.

@GamerMuscleVideos I'm with you! I believe that the CSL DD will do better than DD1 to cope with the 5Nm as you tell on this video. It's simple, the parts on the CSL DD will be smaller, lighter and with less resistance, so the internal inertia will be smaller. The rotor and stator are about the same diameter (not length), it's like a DD1 cut in half, so it looks like better designed for the 5/8Nm of torque.

THANKS FOR SUBSCRIBING !!! (Road to 77K) | Here is my Fanatic Affiliate Store Link should you want to get one ➤ goo.gl/zLmvKQ Noticed lots of people raising questions about the 5Nm Stregth of the Announced CSL-DD wheel with lots of misconceptions about how the strength of a DD wheel relates to things, hopefully this video clears things up + I thought it was quite interesting to see what things were like a 5NM. For reference the majority of my sim racing I tend to drive with the DD1 at around 12-15Nm which I think is a good sweet spot for comfort and information, but as I point out in the video 5Nm on any DD is still enough strength to give tons of information just as the CSL-E belt wheel does but with the bonus that unlike a belt-driven wheel a DD is much smoother and lets you feel the FFB from the sim even more clearly.
@MazdaChris
@MazdaChris 3 жыл бұрын
Temptation is to compare this to the DD1 and DD2 and ask what you're missing out on, but really it should be compared to the CSL-e wheel to see what you're getting above and beyond the belt-driven experience. I doubt many who bought a CSL Elite felt like it was underpowered; with this you're getting all the power of the CSL Elite, but with the benefits of a direct drive with no damping.

@@GTsimms yes but even with a 5nm direct drive wheel you will feel that too but it will probably feel better than your case because you will be getting the FFB effects directly from the motor instead of it going from the motor , on to a belt drive then on to the wheel. I was using a T150 for a few weeks with GT Sport until I saved to buy a T300 last week. The T150 was completely dead. I barely felt the curbs {it's still like that with the T300 but a tiny bit better) and I felt absolutely no other effects with the T150. I used 5he T300 for the first time on Friday and there is a huge difference. I feel a lot more FFB effects in GT Sport. Effects I wasn't aware existed. Being dd and having a carbon shaft, even tho its 5 or 8nm, it will probably be perceived as more and u won't be able to compare the detail to a belt driven wheel, plus im pretty sure there will be a clunsport version probs around 12nm to bridge the gap, but I think this will be a massive improvement to the community, and its more than the normal t300 and tspc for the same money so really nothing to pick at unless it performs like trash, but given that fanatec has been working on this for very long I believe it will be pretty polished by release

Yep well the Logitech wheels are as close as you can get to a DD whalst not being a DD it's why the g25 was such a huge inivation as it doesn't suffer from latency issues lots of belt wheels have. Rotational speed + centre ffb deadzone and strength were just not very good.

Will The New Fanatec CSL DD Wheel Be Strong Enough To Grow GM Hair back?
@jordan_bondurant

I've often wondered what Thrustmaster and Logitech were doing while Fanatec was essentially taking over the wheel market for casual and enthusiast sim racers. I love my TS-PC, but it's crazy aside from some new pedals and the announcement of this new Ferrari rim, Thrustmaster hasn't rolled anything new out in quite a while. Meanwhile Logitech just recycled the G25 last year. I think this new base from Fanatec is sort of signaling the end of belt-driven wheel bases, especially with that price tag.

Can i ask a question? Online Sim racers like yourself say they play with 12nm etc...but the force you all put into steering appears very easy, including changing direction. I play on a G920 with only 2nm (I believe).....and there is no way I can turn the wheel as easily as you guys on full ffb, as for quick changes direction, forget it, it isn't driveable. It isn't the wheel because the logitech GT I have is similar. So what is going on?
@GamerMuscleVideos
@GamerMuscleVideos 3 жыл бұрын
The changing direction is the motor moving itself , DD wheels have very low initia and dampening so even though the FFB Can be strong the wheel can move very easily when it needs to. With a g29 you tend to have to push it around manually more to make up for its lack of speed.
@socks2441
@socks2441 3 жыл бұрын
3:45 wheel rotation speed. the only reason to go high nm. you dont need that torque. not at all. but you do need a fast spinning wheel. a g29 is just too damn slow to be useful. but even its meagly 2nm is enough torque imho.
@socks2441
@socks2441 3 жыл бұрын
ah, but then again. im forgetting the g29 wheel is tiny so increases the torque. whereas a bigger wheel gives you more leverage thus decreasing torque. so with a proper sized wheel, maybe the 2.2-2.5?nm of the g29 would not be enough. but im still sure the 5nm of the fanatec dd is plenty.

Yes a CSLE is perfectly fine and you get great detail from it. But you get even more detail and range of FFB as well as very minimal to no cogging from a DD based ffb wheel. You can drive perfectly fine with a G293 and if a game has good FFB like the origonal asseto corsa just about any wheel will have enough detail to tell you what the car is doing in game.

since when do you need arm breaking ffb? my g29 gives my bad shoulder and elbow issues. and its only 2. something nm. already feels heavier than any car ive ever driven irl. even my old honda accord back in the day when the high pressuer power steering hose blew. so it not only had no powersteering, but it had the additional friction of dragging a powersteering rack. ok. so in a car park, pretty heavy. on the road. not very heavy at all. same with when my toyota altezza broke down a few months ago, getting towed back with a tow rope i had no powersteering, and it wasnt that heavy. but my g29, too heavy. for rally anyway. i literally run it at about 20% or lower ffb in dirt rally 2.0. 10% in ac if im trying to drift so i dont have to fight it, etc.

The feel of DD1 at 5 has plenty of power left to avoid clipping vs CSL dd which is maxed out at 5 which will cause more clipping issues IMHO.
@GamerMuscleVideos
@GamerMuscleVideos 3 жыл бұрын
In regards to clipping I don't see how Its irrelevant if it has more power, if you are not using that power / never going over the 5Nm which would be the clipping point of the other device for example. It would only be relevant if the DD1 was in fact going over 5Nm at times in which case yes that would be clipped with a motor that could not do that. In my example, in the video, I turned the wheel's power down such that it physically could not go over 5Nm regardless of what the game told it to do.

A 15 NM Mige motor is $180 retail. I would think Fanatec could offer something with that motor for around $600. It would offer far more performance than this.
@GamerMuscleVideos
@GamerMuscleVideos 3 жыл бұрын
The cost of a DD is mostly the controller unit and the whole production distribution pipeline rather than just the servo motor. For example it will come to at least £450-700 if you DIY a OSW type solution and that's using other people's servo control code / open source software. And a wheel that does not necessarily compy with consumer regulations. Companies selling retail have to have at least 30-40% margin on the base costs just to cover the risks + R&D + support + marketing and all the other random crap. Maybe the csldd could be even cheaper or it would be better to be a bit higher spec for same price that's a seperate argument. But all said and done for a mass market consumer FFB wheel by an established company it's a very competitive price for what it is. ( Assuming there are no issues) 😅

@theglitch312
@theglitch312 3 жыл бұрын
A CSL DD would be a sidegrade/downgrade to a CSW 2.5. It is a clear upgrade to the current CSL series. I wouldn’t buy this if you own a CSW 2.5. Which is what most would agree on, is still the higher performance wheelbase. However, the fact that this wheel is called the CSL DD, and that Fanatec has claimed all DD is the future... Wait for the CSW DD!
@gelfie2208
@gelfie2208 3 жыл бұрын
I have a CSW v2. I think its max torque is around 7nm. But it has nowhere near the rotational speed displayed in this video. Even with the drift mode set to the fastest setting. I'd give up some FFB "Weight" to gain some FFB "Speed". Depending on how solid the table clamp is.
@theglitch312
@theglitch312 3 жыл бұрын
@@gelfie2208 Now that I look at it, Max torque of the 'boosted' CSL DD and the CSW V2.5 is the same. So depending on the hold, rotation speed and some other factors I'm to dumb to know about, the boosted CSL DD may be slightly better depending on what you want from your wheel. Let's hope the reviews are positive!

@theglitch312 3 жыл бұрын
@@ariton2990 I know it's a belt driven wheel. But most people were talking about the CSL DD as a sidegrade to the CSW, but it seems like a step up if the torque is the same, since DDs usually have better response and can hold their max torque for longer I'm not mistaken.
