Thee price is going to be high, the need to price it just right to persuade scalpers to not buy them all up at launch, while making sure it gets good reviews and get people to buy them in mass. Nvidia likes to launch at higher prices it thinks it can get away with. The downside is that its a 600w GPU, gamers don't have that kind of money, what games are really going to leverage it, and the price performance can't be different from the lower end end GPUs. Who knows, people will go nuts for when it launches, and nvidia will be thinking they should have priced it higher. I haven't seen people complaining about the GPU, so they are likely to want it at any cost.

So Jansen famously decided the price for the 3xxx line backstage moments before he announced those GPUs. So we just don't know until it launches. But it would not shock me if they said $2499 just to see how people react. They can always drop the price, and if we're dumb enough to buy at that price, why not sell at that price no? And yes, AI data centers can't get enough GPUs at times.

There will be lots of supply for next generation RTX 5000 and RX 8000. I wouldn't worry about scalpers. What normies don't know is that the consumer market is all the leftovers, unwanted scraps, and defects from the professional, business, enterprise grade products. If Nvidia and AMD are making a lot of enterprise grade product, then there will also be lots of consumer product too because the failure and defect rate is fixed. People buy Geforce for everything but gaming (workstation, cryptomining, and AI learning). This inflates the price of Geforce because those other groups are competing with gamers for the same product. The high price of Geforce means Nvidia has lost a certain percentage of gamers forever of course not because of any AMD efforts. People have a limit on what they can spend on entertainment no matter how good the product is. Nvidia priced themselves out of the gamer market. AMD wins just by existing. Price is a feature. The reason AMD always screws up is that they get the price wrong. Maybe one day AMD will learn.
@oneanother1Ай бұрын
Not just about pricing, no one buys amd because they don't have features nvidia has. Rx8000 can only price so low before it starts to look like its not as good as nvidia. Amd totally missed the boat on ai too. Amd can't do anything about market share in the consumer space.

There is a ton of products in the 350-750$ range that get access to the top fabs. Nvidia probably isn't using nodes that apple wants. Nvidia is pretty strategic what they use. I think lack of competition is what is hurting consumers.
@leeroyjenkins0Ай бұрын
@@justinhogue9861yes but for NVIDIA it's an opportunity cost thing. They have a contract for some fixed number of wafers. They can make 50 enterprise GPUs that will sell immediately for $20k at $19k marginal profit, probably in many cases inside their own systems where they'll make even more momey. Or they can make 100 consumer GPUs that will sell for $2k at $1.2k marginal profit. There's very little short-term incentive for them to purposefully make consumer GPUs, other than with the scraps of failed enterprise GPUs. On the other hand AMD doesn't sell that many enterprise hardware, so for them it makes sense to churn out GPUs they can sell at $500 profit as they don't have customers lined up to give them 20x more profits for 2x more input.

@fractalelf7760 What a load of garbage. So if 5090 MSRP price is $1500 Then listed for $6000 by all the companies Asus, MSI etc. you will buy it? You realize Nvidia alongside these companies are working together with the pricing manipulation? Nvidia themselves are over pricing their own decent cards. In regards to the 40 series the 4090 and 4080S are the two best card. Everything else is crap.
