You guys need to grab some NACA scoops that allow tubing to bolt to it and some brake ducting - to direct some air to the radiator and engine. One scoop on each side, one for the engine and one for the radiator. You could also get a bigger radiator. This would be a cost effective way to cool everything down...and you can get rid of the fake scoops. I thought you found reverse in the last video?

I owned Pulse #61 for three years. One thing you should check. With a normal load onboard if you push the Pulse to one side there should be one inch ground clearance on the high outrigger wheel. Otherwise you will wear out outrigger tires pretty quickly. There are adjustments near the floor for this. Also the welds on most Pulses are not great. I broke a weld on the left outrigger the first time I drove it. It looked like a bubble gum weld if you know what I mean.

The real issue with the overheating isn't getting air to the radiator...it's getting the air OUT after going through the radiator. At speed the 'in' ducting should be enough if you had an extractor for an outlet. Lower the pressure on the outlet and all will be fine.
@drsavage55974 ай бұрын
I think that's what that guy in the last episode on the bicycle said. "you gotta make the outflow bigger than the inflow, so the hot air can escape at a greater speed than the cold air that is comming in" or something like that. It makes sense.

it's mindblowing they didn't figure this out... look at JET FIGHTERS... relatively small inlets, big outlets!
@DavidStruveDesigns2 ай бұрын
@@drsavage5597 Yeah you essentially create a low pressure zone around the exit, so that air gets pulled in even faster through the intakes. You also have to bear in mind that thing was designed to be an aircraft not a motorcycle, so it's bodywork design creates a layer of air around it that is fairly stagnant - called a boundary layer - the air intakes need to extend outwards further than that boundary layer which the ones on this thing pretty much don't, making them far more useless than they should be.

Crazy thought: duplicate that radiator mount on the other side, but add a water tank in the void above the fuel tank (if you can fit one) with a drip valve and line to gravity-feed a swamp cooler mounted on the other side instead of a rad, as well as ducting with either a disconnect or shutoff valve to the cabin. If you think about it, that was basically how older cars had "A/C" before gas compressors/heat exchangers were fitted, so we know it works, and the loss from drag of introducing that structure to the fuselage will be negligible relative to the current drag value with the canopy open. _shrugs_ That way you can chill the air in summer just by adding water (you can even add an electric ducted fan to help it out while stopped), then drain the tank and shut both valves for the winter where an electric heater could be used...I think it was the _Electrek_ EV from the 80's that just wired a standard _ConAir_ hair dryer to function as the defroster and heater if memory serves, maybe try that. The bike looks sick, and those launches with the 'busa engine were a sight. Never seen any car "tripod" going in a straight line from its own torque before. Thanks for keeping us posted with this project!

@@michaelb.42112 Thank you; I indeed have a beard, and I also enjoy taking sad, neglected engines and making them happy and healthy again, even if I never exactly went to school for it, lol. I _had_ been going to school to be an aerospace-engineer prior to the 2008 recession, actually. In fact, we had the _Bede_ jet that the _AutoCycle_ is based around at that school, but I only got to sit in it and never flew it. I had got the grades, requisites, the test scores, got 2 scholarships, _and_ got accepted to my dream school, but still required a student loan thru Chase to fully make it happen. Little did I know that only 3 months into the semester, Chase would fail and rescind my loan, effectively making it worthless overnight and putting me in bad standing with the university, resulting in my expulsion 2 weeks later due to inability to pay. Life's kinda funny tho, you know? All that time and effort getting into that specific school had been in the pursuit of an engineering career with Boeing upon graduation... I suppose that's one roundabout way of avoiding immense disappointment without even greater imposed cost. -_-

The guy in the last video was correct about needing a hole for the air to get out. The scoops are just ramming air into a cushion of compressed, heated air. There's some exchange, but not enough. If you watch a video about truck beds, tailgates, and gas mileage, it's the same concept. You needed an outlet.

That Hershey's really sucks big time. My ex's son went there for a while. They seemed to have great benefits for when the kid graduates, but it's run like a reform school. Lots of harsh punishments for the smallest of infractions. At one point, her son had to use the bathroom, let's just say he was having intestinal issues. He was literally 2 minutes late getting back. It was even on the paperwork. He was left cleaning the bathrooms by himself for several days, and my ex wasn't allowed to see him on visitation day. Yes, there is a visitation day for parents. You can't see or talk to your kid anytime you want. The dorm parents in his dorm loved to yell and were very cruel. All of it was noted in papers from the school. She pulled her son out after a few months. They say they are harsh because they normally get troubled kids in the school, and need the punishment. Well, her son was a very good, respectful kid before he ever went in. The place almost gave him PTSD after a few months. I'd never suggest anyone take their kids there, unless its to set them straight because they are troublemakers.

At least you got the radiator part right. Still need to either open up the rear or de-hood the NACA ducts for them to work properly. Not sure what's all in the winglets (if anything), but loading the leading edge with an air intake routed to the engine and surface mounted rads on the trailing edge where you've got more real estate for good mounting orientation and proper airflow volume would be the next evolution for this machine. It will most certainly add reliability and performance.

See you came through my neck of the woods in MD on 15. If you're ever in this area again and need a place to work on something, give me a shout. Love the channel.

You should integrate radiators to the wings you could put them right in mounted almost flat and use a little hood scoop to force the air through them and exit out the rear than it wouldn't mess up the look or aero as much. Kind of like how Subarus mount the intercooler under the hood scoop. You could use the outer wheels to add reverse with little electric motors and a switch
