@@MrTaylorfenoglio 10 billion loss for an essential service that can deliver a lot of things practically anywhere in the US? That sounds like a great deal in the scope of normal US budget talks I mean military budget increases typically far exceed that. Also keep in mind that the USPS handles a lot of last mile deliveries (most expensive part) from companies like FedEx or UPS so even these companies rely on the capabilities that the USPS has developed since its inception. I think it is a bit shortsighted to view the USPS as a success/failure based off of their profit, consider the essential service they provide to practically every town in America.

The bald guy who says we don't need USPS anymore is so wrong. The post office has transitioned from letters to packages. There are days I have packages for more than 75% of my route of 500 residents. Some people get multiple packages EVERY DAY, along with their mail. With Covid, it has increased even more how much people shop online. And like the PO enthusiast in the video said, we deliver to EVERYONE and everywhere, including the places UPS, fedex, amazon and the like won't. Lets also not forget the hundreds of thousands of people it directly employs and millions whose businesses rely on it. It's a joke to think the PO won't be a part of our future. There a lot of problems with USPS. Too many to list here. But there are solutions to these problems if we could just get some competence running it. /rant

Y'all realize that private companies like UPS, Fedex, and DHL have to compete with the price rates the USPS sets right? So, if the government offers a service that competes with their business and doesn't opperate for profit -- they can't just charge you whatever they want, bc you will have a cheaper option. The only thing keeping them from raising their rates like the oil and gas industry, where they can charge WHATEVER THEY WANT WHENEVER THEY WANT is the United States Postal Service. That's why if you care how much your packages and shipping costs, you should want the postal service to exist.

Well some of its core issues is hiring and retention. In my local area, they're REALLY hurting for drivers but they can't get the people they want, young people ages 18 - 30, because most of the people they bring in fail the drug test for mainly weed. Then the retention issue is a domino effect. They're heavily understaffed and they will make you stay for overtime when you can't. So anyone looking to do it part time is being quite literally shown the door since you will usually have to work an extra 4 hrs due to understaffing, 4 hrs that you cant spend working due to various reasons. So that rules out anyone that has passed the drug test, is looking to do it part time and is either in college or trade school. So at the very end of the day, you're left with a vary small amount of people that will actually stay but most of the people that do stay are middle aged people, and even then they might leave due to the high intensity work due to the weather the (USPS mail trucks don't have AC [they do but its usually broken and if it does work its very weak so what the use is a small fan in the summer and layers in the winter])

i’m a mail carrier, and i love providing that service to Americans. but to be honest we deliver way too much, especially amazon. I have to go back to the post office half way through my route because all my packages didn’t fit the first time. i’ll have to get out at every mail box to deliver a package. I used to work 7-3. now it’s more like 7-7, 6 days a weeks.

I'm also the mail carrier. One time, during the holidays, I have to deliver 700+ one day!

The pandemic pushed alot of newly hired RCA's out because of the load of Amazon boxes! One of them left for UPS because "it was just delivering boxes not boxes and mail"

Lol you can clearly see the biased media. They chose a town of 500 people to try and justify the postal service not being needed as much anymore? Do a segment in any city with at least 50k population, (which by the way would still be considered a small town) and see what they say about if it’s needed or not lol. I work out of a small city in Florida, and the postal service only seems like it’s getting bigger...

The postal service should be rescued, they've always been the backbone of secure mail.

Spend money on worthless bills and other government if ya want. What’s the point of a postal services if there’s no employees? Half the force is retirement eligible and the other half is treated like horseshit. No one sticking around for a sinking ship.

Still upset about what Republicans are doing to the post office. Love sending cards to my friend and loved ones. I would even get letters when I was a young child. I've decided that I will never vote for a Republican for the rest of my life and will shop in employee owned grocery store so I don't have to patronize any Republican owned businesses.

It's not a political issue that the media makes it out to be. I work for the said agency as a craft employee , union, and guess what...I'm a Republican.

I sent two letters to two of my elementary school teachers. One was a guidance counselor and one was a music teacher. I told the guidance counselor that I was sorry for lying to her and I told the music teacher that I was sorry for calling him evil. But they never wrote back. The guidance counselor is in her 50's now and the music teacher is 70 now. They have probably gotten older and forgotten about me.

The commenters here are too young to appreciate the whole disaster but keep reflecting in a mode of nostalgia and saccharine affection for an old, familiar institution. But in addition to all that the USPS still provides, including arguably the best bargain of the 20th and 21st centuries in the form of a first class stamp, here is something else you won't be able to purchase: a money order, domestic or international, backed by the US government for payment, and valid for a lifetime. Talk about freedom of personal economic choice, boys and girls...?

I don't want it to go away, but I don't use it for packages or important mail anymore. I've had too many disappear or be lost for a couple weeks. Sad, but me sending more via USPS won't change their current state.

You didn't even bother to get any of the USPS union's input... didn't get much of the other side's argument from any type of mailing experts. USPS employees thank you for this hit job! Do we need news networks, like CBS, when we get our news from Facebook and KZbin and a host of other smaller online broadcast informational sites? Network tv is on the downfall in large part to the internet, when news turned into editorials from biased sources changing from the olden days of the type of professionals like Dan Rather, companies like Netflix are the Postal Service's Amazon. We already get minute by minute weather updates on our iPhones, live driving traffic data and routing services from apps like Waze. Start doing the news, we don't need you to try to influence our views with whatever opinion and partisan propaganda they put on the teleprompter for you to read.

@@ridegriff50 What I meant was, I believe there is a law that requires the USPS to keep like 50 or 70 years’ worth of worker pensions available at all times, which is apparently a lot stricter than most other gov orgs. This effectively has handicapped their ability to use the money elsewhere to grow and be more efficient

I did the job as a CCA. It wasn't worth it being sent to the ghetto everyday, climbing three to six steps to put mail in a box that's next to someone's front door while walking up the stairs with a satchel weighing 30-plus pounds with a bundle of coupons, newspapers and parcels weighing you down. The old-school mail buggies were off-limits, we couldn't use them, however, there was one guy who was super senior and he was the only one allowed to use a buggy. And as you walk up the stairs you find that the concrete's is crumbled, the wood is rotted, no railings to grip on and at the same time you're trying not to slip and fall. You get back to the station in the late evening, only to come back the next day only to have an ugly supervisor cry about your timing and how you're supposed to do more work because you're a CCA. Imagine being assigned a full route for the day which is set up for 8 hours and then they take 5 hours from another route and add that on to your day and management cries and wonders 3:12 why you couldn't get it all done in 7 hours. They do good job of chasing away reputable people who would have otherwise kept the job but left due to harassment.

There are citizens who cannot use a computer, cant get a telephone, cant access the internet may not even have a radio. In America many of these people are called Inmates and there are millions of them. Ask them if the they like to get and send mail.
