First of all, thanks to those of you as mentioned in the video for sending items to SMT Mainline. Your set for restoration projects thru January 2021, no doubt, Harrison. Between the Hershey Factory, the repair cart, these project locomotives and the speeder, you've got your work cut out for you. 🤔 Then throw in vacation time, socialization time with friends, and just plain Harrison time, that leaves you with about 5 minutes of spare time.😁 Thanks for sharing. 👍 👍 👍

I modeled in N-scale back in the 80s/early 90s and one local hobby store had a box full of those old, noisy, metal-geared Bachmanns. They ran well with good crawling characteristics when using Pulse Injection on a Tech ll power pack. And, they were cheap.

I don't remember who made it, but in 1960, I got a layout with scenery, etc for Xmas. It came with 3 locos, A NH F unit, a GN GP9, both Athearn rubber band drive, and a metal shell switcher, an NYC Alco switcher model of some kind, with a very poor divetrain, so bad it made the Athearns look good. I added a lot of bad locos over the years, and then switched to N scale, with the very nice Minitrix Aurora SF Warbonnets. .More of the same, good, bad, and some great locos. When I got back into train modeling in HO, I was pleased at how far the drivetrains had come, even on some pretty cheap models. I went on Ebay and bought a half dozen old brass diesels made in the 60's and was amazed, they ALL ran. None of them had a great drivetrain, but one was the worst. It was the exact same drivetrain as the zinc bodied NYC Alco unit under a nice looking unpainted brass RS-1! It barely ran and was touchy about any sort of bad rail joint, just like the older one was. I ended up painting it black and added some PC/CR decals to it and made it a dummy that looked good and without the drivetrain issues, it was a great trailing unit. One of my nightmare N scale locos was a Lima made Baldwin Sharknose that ran at about 500 scale MPH, and jerked very badly at low speed. It was one truck powered and looked really great, but wow, was it pitiful. Nothing I've bought except for that RS-1 is close to being as bad as that old Shark was.

Tyco ICG and Chessie locomotives are Alco C430. Tyco Chattanooga is a GP20, as is the identical Santa Fe with the gear issue. The Durango GP20 needs lube and a pivot gear. Easy fix.

Wesley Mattes said I should check out your channel and I'm glad I did, that's a pretty good lot of locomotives you got there! Many of these HO scale diesels were manufactured in the early 1980s era. They ran too fast, were powered by one truck w/ traction tires, and perhaps their plastic shells & handrails made them interesting. I am grateful that Bachmann, Life-Like, Mantua and Model Power made the transition from manufacturing Toy Trains to Model Trains. Atlas/Kato and Athearn manufactured Diesels were the benchmarks then and now. Thankfully this had occurred because many individuals like myself would have abandoned the Hobby. Yes, I actually repaired many of these dinosaurs for local Hobby shops. Not all were fixable.

Recently I received a handful of old loco's that had been stored for many years from my son. These had been stored in boxes for many years along with some other train stuff, all HO. Belong to a family member of his wife's. These are all pre-DCC, most likely back 50 years or more.Testing on my layout, I had the same results. Only two worked the others would light up, but not move. So what are going to do with the crap that looked good on the outside, but rotten inside?
