Will these WALMART Scents catch more Crappie?! (Walmart Fishing Challenge)

I went to Walmart and picked out a few scents to see if they can catch more fish than non-scented lures. In this video I test if the BaitMate fish attractant or the Berkley Powerbait will catch more crappie than an unscented Charlie Brewer Crappie Slider Grub tail. I am casting a 3 way umbrella rig to ensure all the scents and lures are in the water the same amount of time.

I've found the best scent is, when you catch a crappie rub the jig on your fish.

Your challenge is faulted. The oil in the scents will just blend in the water. Your space between each hook needs to be at least 2.5-3 feet.

They won’t bled if they are water based and the Berkeley’s attractant is water based

One of my daughters bought me a bottle of "Walleye" Baitmate scent at a garage sale. I use it to freshen up the Gulp Waxies when fishing for crappie and bluegill. I'm not convinced the different formulas matter. I've also bought a more expensive "Spike-It" chartreuse garlic dip and it's not produced at all.

I have found that scents can be hit and miss depending on the conditions. I mostly use them when the bite is tough and I don't have live minnows in the boat.

I use scents always for crappie and bass. Been fishing with no bites and reply scent and catch a fish that cast. Also it will take the bad scent from your hands snd cover it. Good show as always, been bass fishing for awhile doing baits reviews and a color test on worms for bass. FLC.

Try the same rig but put the unscented in a different location on rig and test to prove your theory. You half proved it but have to prove it with a full test ruling out all options.

Really like those Charlie Brewers they definitely have a spot in my box been using them many years purple's are deadly.When using multiple baits like that producing lot of reaction strikes there's lot of fish competing for baits so the sents do help,I use em especially in cold water,rising water and current I got to get those rigs mite switch to acc love videos buddy.Chef

I think the best test would be to vertical jig only. I know you couldn’t due to the conditions but when you can I think you need to redo this challenge when only vertical jigging.

The problem others have pointed out in the past with vertically jigging is that when tying on two or three jigs on one line, the depth of the jigs could cause more fish to bite a specific jig. I'm not sure there is a fool proof way to perform a test like this, but I always appreciate new ideas on how to improve it. Thanks!

cool video! But...this challenge is assuming that crappie's senses are strong enough to differentiate between scents on baits just inches apart lol Odds are, that is not the case.

If you look at it based off scent you caught more on the scented baits then unscented

Thanks, I normally anchor since my trolling motor does not have spot lock. If I had spot lock on my trolling motor, I would use that instead of dropping an anchor.

My scent vs. no scent question is about seasons: Are there times when using scents make a bigger difference than others?

I'm not sure, I would guess scent may not matter as much in the spring during the spawn. From my experience if you throw a jig near a crappie on a bed, that fish will attack it.

At what point did they all become unscented, i.e. when did the scent wear off, if it did at all? If you knew that, you could possibly make the case that the Berkeley even repelled the fish since you didn't catch one on it for a good while.

Not sure, also it could have been the combination of how potent both Berkley and baitmate were on the first few casts.
