This Cutlass is a total mystery! I got this thing in trade with no real background information. It was someone's long term project and they passed away before it was finished. We know the paint is fresh and it's got a V8 under the hood, that's really it The rest was all just a mix of guesses and some detective work. The last time it was registered was 2008, so I'm gonna put it at sitting about 15 years. We threw a ton of time and parts that we had laying around this week, trying to get it up and running! Check it out!

Hey Tony, 200-4rs are the same length and output shaft as a th350, it’s damn near a direct swap except for the crossmember, lockup wiring plug, and maybe the cooler lines (think you have to bend them a little). If you can find a factory driveshaft for that Olds, then you can install that. Also, don’t forget that the 200 has a TV cable like on a 700r4

Also, my dad has a 69 Cutlass with the stock 2 barrel 350, and it's surprisingly non-sluggish for what it is. I'd like to see this one warmed up a bit before it gets replaced, for purely selfish reasons.

I have found that when uploading longer videos it takes a few hours for KZbin to rerender the video. Right after you have posted a new video take a look at the quality settings, you will find that only lower quality playback settings are available until the rerender is complete. Scheduling your video to be made public for the next day is usually works best.

That 350b will do fine. Throw some Edelbrock heads on it if you want to drop some weight and get a bit more power out of it. BTW I would put a higher amp alternator in it to run those fans. It's way more expensive to get those heads to work than buying aluminum heads. Glad Oldsmobile is finally getting some airplay. 1970 is about the most awesome Cutlass ever made.
@StayTunedTA
@StayTunedTA 2 жыл бұрын
You know, that might be the move. I bet heads and a cam would wake that thing up. This is a reworked internally regulated alternator so I'm hoping it makes some juice, but that's a good call.

@@StayTunedTA Best cam for a 350 Rocket motor, Olds W-31 cam on a straight up 110 center line ( 472 lift with a 295 Dur) BUT you got to run a 3,500 or taller stall converter. ( I used a 4,500 in my Cutless and it was the bomb with 355 rear gears.) At the drag strip, my Cutless with nothing but a W-31 cam on a 110 center line (for automatic trans) and 4,500 stall and 355 rear went 13.50 at 100mph in the 1/4 mile with street tires. I was SHOCKED ! A week later I drove that car 1,700 miles to TEXAS and back with zero problems. P/S you don't have to buy new heads, just send yours out and get them decked about .100 and slot the intake bolt holes to match. You can bring it up to almost 10:00 to1 even with the dished pistons if you use a .018 thick shim head gasket.

@@hydroy1 I'm not trying to kill anybodys thunder but.. the comp cams XE 268H-10 Olds cam is a 110 cam. It's a 485/ 490 cam. Oldsmobile would have loved to make this cam in 1970 for the 350 Olds. The original Rallye 350 cam had ,474 lift. Plus they had to pull the primary jets out of the carb to get it to run. There is a huge debate among Olds guys about these carburetors. It's an early or late 69 build issue. The Rallye 350 was built to kill the muscle car insurance in 1970. It didn't sell well.. I would kill to have an original. Today you can build a much better 350 Olds engine. DM or Call me.. As my machinist told me.. you got idiot money if you want an Olds motor over as LS.

Bruh...Tony, that thing is absolutely BEAUTIFUL! I have ALWAYS wanted to get my hands on a 67 442, but closer to my monetary situation, a 1980s Cutlass, and I did find one back in the day for $500 in Florida, but I was a teenager back then, so that was a no-go. Anyway, I've been dying to get my hands on a clean reliable old-school Olds Cutlass for a daily for a LONG long time, but right now I drive a 2004 Acura TL with a 11.5:1 SOHC VTEC V6 with a full Invidia exhaust with dual mufflers, full custom headers with hollow cats, larger diameter collector pipe, a full Injen cold air intake, a six speed manual conversion, manual gauge cluster, a 2007 TL manual ECU, custom made ARP head studs, Gates RPM timing belt, AEM 340 LPH fuel pump, a custom Hondata FlashPro tune, and a full stereo system with a Jensen touchscreen head unit, a Skar 5 channel amp with Kicker door and rear speakers, a Memphis Ultra 8" factory sub replacement, a set of two 12" Sundown Audio SA12-D2s subwoofers, and a Soundstream Rubicon Nano RN1.5000D 5000 watt amp. I also relocated the Optima Yellowtop battery to the trunk. Oh, and I also have a 709 whp 1997 EJ8 Civic coupe that has a fully built LSVTEC turbo.

Tony, back again with another comment bc I’m just finishing up. I had a olds 403 in my trans am and these olds motors sometimes from the factory has 18 degrees initial timing. I messed with my engine a lot and from what I remember, earlier olds motors factory setting was 12 degrees where as later years ( 77 and on, something like that had 18 degrees). If you do have a later 350 you should be running more timing. It turned over hard at 15 degrees so maybe you actually have a earlier olds casting. Also the code for what engine you got should be stamped right on the engine block in front or behind the oil tube. Run the numbers to tell what year you got and make your changes and engine upgrades from there.

I realize you don't have the level of production tech that the HRG crew had, but wireless mics are fairly cheap. Don't want to come across as sounding negative, but it just really sucks having the volume cranked all the way up and still can't make out what y'all are saying. I subscribe to a lot of 1 man garage car channels on KZbin (WatchJRGo, Hoovie, Finnegan, Car Wizard, to name but a few), and yours is literally the only one that I've noticed which has this issue on a regular basis. Really looking forward to seeing what you've got planned for the Cutlass (& hopefully hearing it as well! :) ) Thanks for listening.

Those bits are dull because you run them at 735,000 rpm! Full throttle in second is perfect on a 20V DeWalt for a TINY (like 1/8") bit. Half throttle in 2nd, full in 1st is ideal for 3/8"-1/2". You're drilling rivets. 1/2-throttle in 1st WITH COOLANT, with GOOD bits, is about right. Glad everything worked out, haha! Gorgeous machine.

The Olds 350 is arguably the best factory 350 GM engine, it has the largest factory bore at least (4.057"), the W31 made 325hp, I suppose the 1969 Pontiac 350 H.O. was rated 330hp but it's 354ci and the 1970 LT-1 350 was rated 360hp(Z/28) and 370hp (Corvette). The best Buick 350 was 310hp, is usually considered the worst, had the longest stroke 3.85", is the lightest, is considered very strong by many and does well with boost.

My friend in highschool had one just like that(around the year 2000) blue with silver stripes. The 4 wheel drums weren't that bad at normal speeds. Really only sucked when you were doing something stupid. In the car it felt like you were driving a lazy boy, but it wasn't underpowered (not overpowered either) perfect cruiser

In the beginning starting around 1:30ish you can tell it's a 1970 because of the location of the horn relay on the fender and also those little dimples along that inner fender seam, 1970 only for the fenders. Also, all the charging current from the alternator goes to and from that stupid little horn relay. Make sure your wiring is done right in this area or you will make a smoke show! My first car was a 1970 442 and I still have it since 1983! Got to know these cars inside and out. Even replaced the frame on my car due to rust. Let's see how this episode goes, as I just started watching...

When I was a kid my old man bought brand new a 68 Olds Cutlass with a 350 "Ram Rod" option. It was brutally quick. It had a turbo 400 trans and 4.10 gears from the factory. I saw him beat corvettes and SS 396 Chevelles with that thing and it was a 350 olds engine. Maybe research what the 350 ram rod engine had in it.

@@StayTunedTA the olds Ram Rod has special heads and cam .. I think intake and carb as well that wouldve been direct competion for the Challenger T/A for that Trans Am SCCA racing circuit if I am not mistaken.. 455 engines can be found cheap.. hop up a 455 for the thing.. I know its not LS but everyone is doing that modern stuff..I was too but...I built a 1971 455 for my 71 442..that pretty stout ..fun times..now I am building a 1970 Challenger..still have the Olds though..

Hi Tony, Oldsmobile for the most part in those years controlled the compression ratio by the dish in the pistons moreso than the combustion chamber chamber size. Also if those valve covers are non baffled like alot of old aftermarket olds valvecovers are, you can get a set from Bernard Mondello that are baffled properly and at a good price stamped... NOT MONDELLO RACING.. Bernard is Joe's son and does a really nice job..
