On today's episode, it's a ratty flat black big block Coronet! What more could you even want? Let's see if this unit wants to be a runner.

HEY IT'S MY CAR HAHA. Yes, she's a project. I bought it from a rather gruff man in Vancouver, WA. He didn't know much about it's history but that it was from the Sacramento area. It had run previously, and I didn't ask him if he was the perpetrator of the wiring horror....did I mention he was gruff? He did try switching it to an electronic dizzy but failed. The master plan is a ratty sleeper. And floor pans. Thanks Jamie and Rocket!

I know people hate talking money but could you tell us what you payed for it? If not was it over $15,000 or under? The Coronet line used to be so unappreciated by people that for awhile in the 90’s there was a push to junk and crush them. I thought they looked cool and you could get most big engines that Chrysler offered in a Coronet. It’s a keeper in my book! It would make a cool weekend driver!!

My neighbor's son was in highschool when I was in grade school. He was quiet, and a good student, and worked hard. Delivered papers, mowed lawns, waited tables, worked weekends at the local store. While he was in high school. He was always a really nice kid. Taught me how to fix stuff on the mower, showed me his hotwheels and toy cars from when he was a kid. He never had to do that, I was just the neighbor's kid, and a pain at that. I will never forget the day he pulled up in one of these, in a two tone color scheme. Still to this day I think about it. First thing he did is rev it up, and came over and asked my parents if I could go for a ride lol. Then he went and showed it to his mom, she did not like it at all. We went out and he melted some tire, and took off on the highway etc. Then we went around town and he showed it off a little. It was the coolest thing that happened to me until I started driving my own cars. I've been in 1,400 hp street challengers, I've been in all sorts of stuff over the years. I will never remember any ride I've been on in my life the way I remember that one. That car will be a part of my life forever. That was 38 or so years ago lol. I'll never forget it though, it will always be the best ride. Sorry about the rant. I saw it, and I immediately thought of it.

Your story reminds me of the first time riding in a muscle car at 15 years old. A neighbor 18 y/ old picked up a 68 RT Charger, green, four speed, Dana rear but with a 383 mag instead of 440. It was the fastest car I’d ever been in and the love for Mopar was ignited. Being pinned into the backseat through all four gears was a feeling I’ll never forget!

When I was 9 in 1969, my friend Terry’s mom was preparing to give me a ride home in a car like this. 440 4 speed and a white interior. Shiny blue on the outside. We all sat in the front seat. Us boys started chanting “do a burnout”. Petite Katy in her white high heels reved a little and killed it when she dumped the clutch. She swore. Wound it up tight and dumped the clutch. We left smoke for a block and half, her giggling the whole time.

👍As a 70s 80s kid w/ motor head brother in laws, I was always around Dodges. They were dirt cheap in KY. Around 77 I was 11, brother had a 68 Dodge Charger R/T w/ 440. I loved that red car!! Speed & cool factor, most definitely! His older friend (w/ more $$$ than he) had a 66, 67 Dodge C. 500. Kept in gray primer. Real sleeper look but big beefy tires tucked under & set up as a street racer. Super strong totally built engine. Maybe a 426 HEMI but possibly a 440. NO ONE in the area knew too much about drivetrain as the owner was pretty secretive. It looked ugly to me as a kid however the older guys absolutely loved it. At the local short track, OHIO VALLEY Raceway & the back streets and alleyways he dominated them all. Good times back when these cars were a dime a dozen. Brothers 68 R/T wound up in a tobacco field for shooting practice without the drivetrain as was transplanted in an old ‘CUDA. Good video. Thx Jamie. 👍🇺🇸

That sticker on the speedo that says Car Kit? Yeah, in California, they actually demanded a retrofit to meet emission by way of reducing timing advance. The expensive kit (not this one) actually had a device that either allowed or did not allow timing advance based on engine temperature. This one? The Car Kt consisted of a blister pack containing two rubber caps - one for the distributor and one for the carburetor...yes, they did tend to run hot and doggy...

About the the ground in the dizzie. Yeah. Got a '69 440 with points. It's in a truck. Won't run without the points post grounded. Don't ask me. But that's the way it is. And the big block truck brake boosters are just small enough to clear. Small block truck boosters won't clear the big block valve cover. It's also the same booster that's used on early 1st gen Cummins.

I also released a video on a 1965 Dart convertible yesterday in which I went over some of that again. I feel like I left some useful information out of the first video and am planning to do another Five Minute Fix video in the near future. If it is isn’t running at all, I have a video on classic Mopar ignition systems in which I explain how they work, and give some tips for things to check. They are a pain to work on with particularly autopilot. One of the spark plugs has to be taken out from underneath and another can only be loosened by one tooth at a time on a ratchet.

Gotta stop watching you,you keep showing me cars I had and let go. Oh well, can't keep them all. My 500 had the 318. Kidding about stopping, too entertaining and informative. 👍🍸

Unless I am mistaken, R/T would have been coded WS23.

Back in the day I had a ‘67 R/T. Great car as long as the motor didn’t blow. Went through two of them between 1969 and 1972.

That’s a good one! I usually just scrape them with a flathead, but the file was handy.

@DeadDodgeGarage I lament the passing of quality points manufacturers. I have a 64 426 Polara 500 and haven't been able to buy decent looking pairs of points for the dual point distributor in forever. Blue Streaks from Standard used to be good,,, Echlin used to be good and anyone who ever opened a box of Sorensen points in the maroon and white box,,, those were works of art!!

They’re not even Mopar seats. I feel like I mentioned that? But may not have said much about them.

…does it? Lol. I’m doing what I’ve always done - post videos of myself fixing and reviving cars with commentary, give semi useful information, and explain how junk works. As long as there are broken Mopars, I’ll have material. I also have a huge list of ideas that I haven’t even started on because there are so many projects like this and people really like them. It’s ok if you get bored of it.
