I bring an old Datsun 620 back from the dead and attempt to roadtrip it across the country after it was left abandoned for almost a decade!

This is borderline insane like "bruh screw it don't need a new one we'll just reuse the head gasket" and then instantly trys to road trip it just borderline insane and I crave more of it

Reusing an oil filter after a bad head gasket is next level bogan, hahaha. Kind of crazy how normal it sounded once you got it going. That was pouring some proper steam! Also please don't open hot radiators as a habit. It was a valiant effort, but hey at least it was a good way to break in the MR2 clutch. Tons of fun man!

just some advice , when youre trying to open the radiator like that , you can squeeze the upper radiator pipe and if its squishy , that means its safe to open ! if its stiff and doesnt want to bend under your grip then its still pressurized and youll want to give it a few more minutes with the vehicle off to depressurize

From the moment you said temp gauge doesn't work i knew you were going to overheat. You need to clean out the radiator, and i wouldn't be surprised that it is partially blocked. Also change the thermostat to a new one :)

A mate and myself drove one of these around Australia in the early 70's. Before we left Kim replaced the big end bearings just in case, he also fitted a fuel tank out of a truck in the back which gave us a fuel range from Perth to Ceduna. Had a ball the old Ute didn't let us down, we were both mechanics I have no idea now how many broken down, ill prepaired cars we got going in central Australia.

36 miles an hr is 60 ks,60 miles is 110 (ish) probably miles out in actual reading depending on your tyre size. Keep bringing the excitement, great little truck, plenty of potential

@@fuq1nutube yes apologies,I just remembered a little Mazda sedan I owned,as well as a Mazda bongo van I learnt to drive in had a miles per hr Speedo, 36 miles per hr was highlighted as coinciding with 60 KMs P/ hr and 60 mph was just under the 110 line, Ive had,and still have Toyota vehicles that from the factory with recommended tyre size, run almost 10 klm per hr short of indicated speed,I'm also guessing that a clapped out Datsun in a really poor state of tune isn't going to be setting land speed records but more a warning to take Speedo reading with a grain of salt, GPS might be a little more reliable

When you bypass the thermostat you actually just punch the center of the thermostat out and put the housing part back in. Otherwise you just keep losing your water, as there too much pressure going through.

Frigging Datsun's. Can't kill the bastards. I had a late 80's Datto Bluebird for years. i preferred it over my brand new, fully kitted limited edition Alfa romeo 156. parts cost nothing and went on any oil and any petrol. Loved it. The only mod I did was put electronic ignition on it which made a ton of difference. zit was like putting s modern eCU in by comparison.

same filter, same gasket! AWESOME!!! Why didn't you just pinch off the back brake lines? You only have 1 wheel spinning (open diff) so you don't need ALL the wheels stopping, put a rear flex up front. do about a hundred!!! WTF! in that pile, oh ... 100kph only about 60mph Road trip to Adelaide! I lived in Glenelg for a year, Platinum condos, a very nice place.

Maybe if you had ever fixed the head gasket a single time you wouldn't of been overheating and constantly on the side of the road. There's some contact adhesive made for head gaskets called Indian Head Gasket Adhesive that is perfect for this kinda deal your trying to pull but beware, once you coat both half's and let them tack wherever you put them together that's it. You'll have to chisel the heads back apart. Next time get you some of that and go on.
