If you can’t work on the simple stuff.. why would anybody trust you with complicated hardware?? 😶. Odd statement.
@briang4470 Жыл бұрын
@@jonellwanger7258it's not necessarily that is "difficult/hard" to work on the older cars, the problem is that due to most of them being 40+ years old, everything gets worn out/ decayed over time and when you fix one thing, 99% of the time you'll find something else that now needs repaired, so the cars usually end up being extremely time consuming and it takes soo much time that you can't realistically bill the customer for every work hour put in or the bill would end up being more than the cars worth. Plus nowadays lots of parts are now discontinued or on indefinite backorder so a lot of projects are left at the mercy of parts availability so then the car ends up sitting for months-years and then because it's been sitting, now usually needs more work. It's just a never ending project.

Sway bars are definitely your friend! I bought a 79 power wagon that was most of the way done being restored. It had a 4” lift kit and 33” mud tires and the sway bar was not on the truck but luckily came with. When I finally got most everything done and running and driving I took it for it’s first test drive and all seemed well until I attempted to negotiate the first corner in the road. The amount of body roll and buttpucker was insane. I had to find some longer connecting links from like a 2000’s 2500 but I got the sway bar in and it was a whole different truck, even sitting way up in the air it stayed level and planted in corners. Great vids brother, I can’t believe how clean that Stude is!! 👍

If you do more to this car in the future, adding a water/ water-methanol injection set up would greatly help fight detonation and will add a huge safety margin for tuning.

@@DeadDodgeGarage believe it or not even a super small scale, crude set up(like a washer sprayer in the air inlet) will make a night and day difference. I tried to run a draw through type turbo set up on a small block Chevy and even at 5psi with 7.5:1 compression, with 22 degrees of total timing I could not get it to stop detonating, I tried everything (fuel, timing,spark plugs, jetting,etc). As a last ditch attempt I put on a home made water-methanol set up on it hooked to a boost switch and now with 30 degrees total timing and no other changes the detonating completely stopped, ever since then I have been a firm believer in it.

Good video. On the pinging, did you look at the centrifical weight springs on the distributor? I know you can get different spring tensions on those. Sometimes they are tired. Remember , in 1961 leaded 100 octane was available. She might need that, even though your compression is not that high.

I went through the distributor lately, doing a recurve, and later modified and then eliminated the vacuum advance. I could never get the pinging to completely go away with the vacuum advance connected. It definitely wants race gas. Haha.

I just remember when I was a kid my dad had a '67 olds 88. The leaded gas was getting phased out and dad had to bring the timing back to get rid of the ping.
