Would have been a good idea to paint the insides of those lower spring pockets to help prevent rust, these pockets are known to rust, fail and the spring begins to push its way out the bottom.

Listening to your comments after the conversion Gary it seems to be the best of all worlds. Firstly it is much safer on the road which then inspires more confidence when driving. Then there is the enjoyment of experiencing something new and enjoyable in how the car now drives which then makes you even more enthusiastic owning the car and driving it. That then equates to more fun and enjoyment so you end up with they joys of the famous Rolls Royce “Waftabilty” and a better handling and safer car, strikes me that whatever the cost it was well worth it! Imagine the wonderful top down autumn drives in the countryside you can now enjoy! Another great video Gary, thanks so much.

Well done! I have the springs from the handling kit, paired with bespoke adjustable front shocks from Öhlins, on my Corniche DHC. Additionally, I ditched the old tech Avons for modern SUV tyres. All in all, these improvements are impressive and I wouldn't have it any other way. I criss-cross Europe frequently in my Corniche. It just piles up the miles, particularly on the Autobahn, where I adjust the shocks to a firmer high speed setting. It's such a complete and versatile car with these changes. In the snow, the independent suspension and SUV snow tyres make the car perform fabulously.

Great video, thank you for showing the process. I remember back in the 80's I had a Rhoddy Harvey-Bailey kit fitted to my Range Rover and was blown away by the difference it made. I had heard that his kit for the early Silver Shadows does the same thing and makes the handling better than the Series 2, and it looks like that's true based on your experience.

Good job done there mate. What I would say, and you did stress it as well to be fair, is exercise extreme caution when releasing the spring tension from the retainer unit you lift the spring out in. We were told it must always go into the thick plate compressor to do this although I have done it without BUT ONLY IF THE SPRING IS NOT BROKEN as this causes so much unequal tensions & pressures it is simply just is not worth the risk. If that spring gets free it could cause massive / life changing injuries to anyone who gets in its way.

Hi Gary, interesting video. You commented how others may feel different to fitting such a kit , well it’s personal choice, and it’s your car, after all. You have done the work and you are pleased with the end result , and that’s all that matters. It was a particularly interesting video for me as I was fascinated with the tool you used to compress the front springs. Whilst I’ve never owned a Rolls Shadow/Corniche , I once had a Fiat 132 which had double wishbone coil springs with the shock absorbed separate mounted in the coil . I got a replica tool made by a tool maker which had a top circular plate with a long threaded rod which revolved on a bearing in the plate , a pulled up the bottom plate via the threaded rod which in turn compressed the coil spring. All in £25.00 ! Good video once again.

My Shadow sort of drove well. Accept despite having heavier Koni shocks it actually was terrible. It would on a sharp left hand turn into a freeway rear wheel steer and the car would jump sideways! The alloy towers were flogged out. All the metalastic bushes rams etc were worn out. Basically the car received a complete new suspension and hydraulics. It then handled properly! Many thanks to Flying Spares for parts. I left the spring replacement to professionals and they had problems!
