there is also what is sometimes called "reconstructionist" or 'revisionist' orthodox which basically means just as conservative and tradition except that they don't exclude and marginalize women, as far as I can tell Ultra-Orthodox try to observe all the rules of the Torah all the time and shun anything 'worldly' like sports or politics or finance and business etc, while 'regular' Orthodox still try to follow most of the same rules and practices but participate in worldly affairs more freely. Whereas 'conservative' means someone that still follows a lot of the oldschool practices but believes in adapting them pragmatically to the modern world and is comfortable with a division between religion and state and secular law etc.

If diplomacy and a practicing democracy is actually in place, no one should be required to take up arms and engage in wars they do not morally agree with. i am sure everyone in the muslim world can morally refuse to pay jiziyah and can morally refuse to admit he is a muslim and can declare he doesnt want to be a muslim any more. but as we dont want to be dhimmis any more we have military service ,just like the west(and arab/muslim world) force people to pay taxes to causes they disagree with or to enlist(as was the case in ww1,ww2,korea war and vietnam war). they aint risking jail,they are risking losing funding to their yeshivas. and why should we fund religious schools who dont contribute to our economy or to our national security?

When it comes to universal public service there should be NO exceptions. In times of war there are many jobs that do not require front line fighting - medical service, logistics, etc. If they refuse to serve then they should not have access to welfare or any other social services paid by the taxpayer.

In 2018 Netanyahu declared Israel a Jewish state. Religious states generally revere their orthodox members and they're allowed special treatment, like treating their wives as dirty objects when they have their period. If they're being forced to fight this means Israel is losing troops. So maybe cleaning toilets and floors on the Gaza strip during the ceasefire or not washing your own car when volunteering to drive patients living on the Gaza stirp to other facilites to recieve specialist medical care treatment was not doing any dirty work during the last ceasefire too before some Hamas kidnappers decided to help ensure that the other kind of dirty work you speak of had to according to you be done instead to the degree it is happening right now?
