If the world ends this week I think this could very possibly be one of the causes, if not the main cause. Hopefully we'll make it until the next podcast when Phil can say it again and all will be well again and the balance in the universe is restored.

From Leo: I don't understand the whole "no soul", "no mojo", no whatever. I can understand people having favorites, but different is not bad. My Strat does not sound like a gibson, my Gretsch does not sound like my Jazzmaster, and my Tele does not sound like my PRS. That does not mean they are lacking anything. It is up to me to get the tones and timing out of it called music. The guitar is a tool not an entity. If the guitar had soul, it would not need you.

For strap locks, I used to use Schallers, and they were great, but I had to install them on each guitar, and they are a bit expensive. Music Is Win recently mentioned Rok-Loks in a video, and I’ve been super happy with those. They just tighten onto your strap and seem to work with any stock strap button. I wouldn’t be *super* rough with them, as they’re plastic, but they have replaced Schaller as my strap lock of choice.

Hey Phil, i was just listening to the Tone mob podcast about how you went into starting the store and transitioning into KZbin. Just wanted to say what a strong couple you are! Such an inspiration to turn a crazy event into something that not only you can enjoy but also benefits the thousands and thousands of us that get to enjoy your content and get to hang out with you every week. I live halfway across the world from you so i never get too catch them live, but i listen to it almost every day and every week. Very deep felt thanks and wishing you and your family a merry Christmas and to many more years ahead! Cheers🥂🎉

The Spark Go is dependent on placement. Sound s amazing in a corner diagonally while i sit up against wall an arms length away, ear level. Wow!. Stuck in bed for a bit after surgery so super happy this is working out so well. It is also sitting on a cab.

On Bass DI amp/cab sims, we looked at the Ampeg, but ended up getting the Two Notes ReVolt Bass DI/amp-cab sim. It's been an excellent unit. Have used it live with an Elite Jazz Bass, Carvin fretless acoustic bass, Fender select P Bass and a Musicman Stingray 5HH. It has been easy to dial in a pleasing tone for any of those.

First let me say I love your content. I just came to say that I absolutely love the Spark Mini. It is my go to for learning material and just general noodling as well as taking on the road for hotel room use and warming up before shows. I have/had the Spark 40, Blackstar Fly 3, Nux Mighty Air, and Laney Mini Lion and the Mini just stole the show for me. It sounds the best of all of them without being annoyingly loud but it can get decently loud without flubbing out. I liked the full Spark ok but I just couldn't get rid of the weird low end rumble.

Re: The various levels of guitars like the 'Greenie": As cynical as I can be, there is a part of me which has seen that it is also about wanting to make as many customers as possible happy and using the people with more money to do the market research to see if it is a good idea to pitch the idea to the working class customer. That may seem like 'just good business' but when you are talking about something like 'The Greenie' this is also about the old corporate model of 'building shareholder value' by doing the right thing and listening to the customers. This is why companies like Gibson and Fender can keep shooting themselves in the foot as a brand and then recovering from the edge of disaster.

I get tips in a lot of forms. Most common is telling me to keep cash change. Part of this might be that the till is on a different floor from my work area, as much as a desire to tip. I have some regulars who I don't charge for a variety of reasons. A good number of them simply tip instead. It has the same result, but it is a different type of transaction. I also have a lot of customers who bring me food and I have more Christmas cookies than I can eat right now. One year someone came in and paid off my store account for Christmas, which had a balance of around $200 for personal stuff I'd bought on store credit. I keep B and E strings around in bulk and don't usually charge to put them on kids guitars. That results in a tip from parent more often than not and a return visit for a set up or to buy a better guitar. You earn tips for service. Guitar tech work is a relationship business as much as it is a technical trade.

@1:15 after I try the guitar and if it's better than my expectations, yes I'll tip. I usually pay in cash, so if it's like 185.00 and I have $200 in my pocket and the work is great, I'll hand the whole $200 and say thanks. I want to see my tech stay in business for a very long time, and appreciate me as a customer much as I appreciate her. So yeah, I tip.

"This Guitar has No Soul"! I have read or heard that about guitars that a player might feel like each one plays exactly the same..... That could be a good thing or a bad thing. If they are consistently great, then I applaud that Guitar Maker or Company. On the other hand...if you have to go through 15 guitars or more to find that "one" that "has a Soul"..... then that guitar Maker (or Company) needs to refine their work or product IMHO.

That's a bummer to hear that Relish went under, though I'm not very surprised. I feel like they might have been trying to answer a question that guitarists just weren't asking. I've been building guitars for over 10 years, and never once has someone come to me asking me if I could build them a guitar with the ability to change pickups on the fly. Maybe if they were priced a bit lower, it may have been more of an incentive for more people to give them a try, but I totally understand why they were priced where they were. I'm not trying to take a piss on their ashes or anything, it's a sad thing to hear about any business going under.
