The roads have extremely low traffic and at that point where I live there are very few drunk drivers, especially during the week.

Regarding the 2.6 miles per kWh for the Prius. I think this is a function of battery size. A small battery has higher internal resistance which means greater loss in the battery itself (the battery will warm up more). Also means the battery will wear out quicker as fewer miles per cycle.

Safety score regarding Tesla insurance is not just about YOU it has to do with OTHER drivers. If you live/drive in heavily congested areas then your insurance should be higher because you are in an area with a higher probability of getting into an accident. The same with late night driving. The night driving score is because there are factors at night beyond your control. Like other drunk drivers , animals jumping out in the road. For insurance purposes this makes their risk higher even if you are a perfect driver. Insurance scores / rates can’t be calculated 100% on your driving. There are other risks outside of how you drive specifically. Especially at night.

One thing that bugs me about EV chargers: why the fk aren't they covered? While I'm sure every manufacturer is absolutely perfect about properly sealing everything that needs sealed and every technician is always 100% focused on making sure everything has been resealed against moisture getting into all those high voltage parts every time they need to open one up to service it, I don't like getting rained/snowed on. Oh and shade is nice when it's hot AF too, just fyi. For real though, there's very good reasons why gas pumps are pretty much universally under cover. Not to mention you could slap some solar/micro wind generators on em and say they're extra green that way.
@andrewsaint65812 жыл бұрын
The reason for filling stations being covered is probably because people do not like standing in the rain while filling up. Asda (UK) have/had a totally unattended - pay by card one, with nothing other than a locked cabin. It was sleeting when I filled up there and I promised to never use it again.
@madhououinkyoma2 жыл бұрын
Interesting. Never thought of this too much. But I guess the main two reasons are that: 1. You get to reuse existing parking spaces without the need for extra infrastructure except for what is needed for the actual chargers. 2. It is significantly cheaper. But yeah, I do see the problem and wonder what people do when it’s raining/snowing. Doesn’t sound too fun but it’s definitely not the end of the world either. An umbrella/coat should help.

@@madhououinkyoma if they're looking to eventually turn a profit on these charge stations they will eventually have to actually take care of these little quality of life issues. Probably because gas station serve way more customer per square feet than EV chargers, so it make more economic sens to cover gas stations. Maybe there is some regulations to cover the gas stations so the gas that is spilled on the ground at the gas stations isn't polluting waterways.

Safety Score is not just how safely you drive, it's how likely you are to get in a collision. This is just how insurance works. It's very logical. Also, the statistic for crashes happening between 4pm and 11:59pm, I assume is an absolute number and not a percentage. Meaning, even though there are less drivers on the road at night from 10pm to 4am, the percent likelihood of a single vehicle being in a crash might be higher.

The total battery is 77,4 kWh, so at 225 kWh/mile, you would be empty after 1/3 of a mile. Doesn't sound right, right? 14 kWh/100 km means basically 14 kWh/66,67 miles, as a mile is approx 1,5 km (what i use for in-my-head-calculations for ease). So to get to consummation per mile, you have to divide 14 kWh with 66,7 or 14 000 Wh divided by 66,67. Since the km to miles is not perfect, i get basically 210 wh/mile. On the calculus with correct km to mile (0,62) or mile to km (1,609 km) figures, you'll end up with 225 Wh/mile. Hope this cleared up for ypu.

I suspect that Tesla will prioritize the west and big corporations for their initial Semi trucki production. Big companies can more easily afford high performance chargers, and Tesla can prioritize installing public Semi chargers in the Western region. Once they get production ramped up, then they will start deliveries to the rest of North America and to smaller customers. Including you. One more thing - I suspect that some of that initial production of Semis will be owned by Tesla to deliver their cars.

In Australia we only have approximately just over 300 EV charging locations of which Tesla only has Currently 46 supercharger locations. It would be great if Tesla can get to at least 150 even just to keep up with half this pace. Tesla is dominating the Australian market it would be good to see it replicate the supercharger charging infrastructure as well rather than rely on 3rd party chargers that don’t work as well.

I doubt most people dive that amount in one day. I do not see a need for it to be 400miles when on average, people only drive around 40 miles in a day
@simonthebroken96912 жыл бұрын
@Connor I do. Having the buffer for long trips when you lose ~30% in the winter, is necessary. If you're in a warm climate it doesn't make a difference. -20° F is a big deal. Think about the math. 300 miles of range isn't on the freeway so ~270. Then reduce that by 30% cold penalty. About 162 miles from full to ~10% battery. That's 2.08 hours driving in rural areas. FYI, fast charging is only every 75 - 100 miles. Now you stop to charge up to 80%, that only gets you ~152 miles of range to 10% state of charge. That's 2 hours of drive time. When traveling 700 miles it becomes quite frustrating You see it's not ever really 300 miles of range except in the city where you don't need 300 miles of range. I need 150 miles of real range in winter, towing 12,000 pounds, doing 78 mph. That's equal to my current setup. I think the Cybertruck will get there. We'll wait & see. The semi will get there, but it's harder to park.

Solve simple problem: a company has 7 cars. 4 cars (A-type) with gas mileage 20miles/gallon and 3 cars (B-type) with 29 miles/gallon. A company upgrades its park and has 2 options: Either replace one A-type with one B-type, OR replace one B-type with one newer car (C-type) that has a gas mileage 39 miles/gallon. Which option is the best from the gas mileage prospective?

I have a telematic insurance on my car and one of four points is Time as well. IMO the time is a factor in safety. On my insurance the streets I drive are also a metric. More Autobahn, more points because on city streets and two way streets between cities the likelihood of an accident is also greater. But these two metrics make 30% of my safety score, the other two, speed and G-forces are the rest and I can get them higher by driving safely and with the speed I should. That’s ok for me. My points are right now: Speed 93/100 G-Force 95/100 Road 79/100 Time 65/100 With that I save 23%\30%. 30% would be 100/100 on all metrics. I am happy with that.

Love this episode with so much current content to digest. Would love to know more about Redwood's way of taking in recycled batteries. I would much rather send them my old batteries since they get it. Maybe they contract thru a 3rd party as an intake supplier but would really like to support the mission they are on. Thanks for all you do.

I agree with Zack that 300 miles of range is suffice, but I would add that it should be 300 miles actual range at 80% charge, as charging slows too much over 80%. So 400 miles at 100% would be the number to achieve.

THIS!! 300 miles makes long trips possible. 400 miles makes them quick and easy.

Need for range depends on density of superchargers. I can draw a box starting near Dickinson, ND to Fargo, then down near Sioux Falls, SD to Rapid City and back to Dickinson. The box covers 100,000 square miles. Once you leave the Interstate Highways around the edges, there are NO superchargers. That’s why I want more range. I have faith that more superchargers are coming and that the value of Tesla stock will go back up, but right now, travel in my home area involves careful planning.

@@dennisolsen8945 I put on a lot of miles each year for business. About 30K with my Tesla and about 20K with my diesel pick up. I've owned three Teslas since 2015. I love driving my Model Y, but sometimes the job requires me to have the utility of a truck. Been a day 1 Cybertruck reservation holder. Really hope they don't change the specs on the trimotor 500+ mile range variant. That would truly allow me to go completely off petroleum.

Beware EV range are significant in colder country such as Canada. With 40% less range in our cold winter it reduces our long-distance travel and have to do more chargers in some regions. Ideally 500KM are much better and comparable to ICE cars in Canada as most of our long-distance travel are within 250KM range.

You need a lot more range for trucks that tow. 300 miles is alright for cars.

Don't wanna put you guys down, but... You said how great it is that Tesla doesn't have to get everything right the first time (re: recalls and OTA updates), then later complain they didn't get the safety score changes right the first time?

So when someone finds the free thing on ecowear, how can we share the word? I haven't found it, but thinking it'll be something small and probably NYK brand.

I want 300 miles in the worst case scenario not the best. Companies recommend a daily charge of 70-80% plus add the nice wheels and if it’s cold… i really need 400-500 so my daily real world range is 300

In regards to the tesla that was in the wreck at 0mph. FSD or autopilot could still be a cause for the accident. You can’t just say look, it was at 0mph before the crash. My FSD will slam the brakes on way too early and stop many car lengths back in some situations. This could very easily cause a crash.
