I recently got an Ocarina after wanting one for for 12+ years since I was a kid and saw one of David's videos! I managed to get not only a Night by Noble but a Prima Gakki M5C. I'm lucky enough to live in Japan so I get some decent access to the brands in the area! I have only just started to play but hope to continue in the future and work my musical skill even further. I also just managed to see the Kickstarter just before this video was uploaded and will be supporting it as the history around Ocarina's seems a lot more scarce than anything else I have seen. Thank you for pushing this kickstarter to more people through this video and another thank you to David for trying to build and preserve the history behind the wonderful instrument.

I’m actually going to Japan tomorrow! If you have any recommendations for ocarina shops or anywhere I might be able to find them in Tokyo I’d be very interested

@@AndyCormierYT The "Yamano Music Ginza main shop" Seemingly stocks them in store in some nice cabinets as well as online and has the widest variety. You can get there pretty easily by hopping on the Yamanote line and it shouldn't cost more than 200 yen or so to use the line depending on location of course! If you get the chance, using Mercari is a good idea to for finding preowned ocarinas for a nice price! (Only caveat is the needed Japanese postal address but you can get around it with shipping through different companies which can send your package from them to outside countries) Also have a lovely trip here! It's just started to warm up and is in the 20 degrees region with some nice sunny days :)

I just found out today that the ocarina was actually used for an incredibly famous sound track “for a few dollars more” and was a main instrument, throughout the whole soundtrack

An ocarina museum sounds kind of cool, but you know it has to have an exhibit dedicated to LoZ:OoT

YESS! I really hope this happens and I've been trying to spread the word a little bit too. I've played the ocarina for five years now, but only started learning a lot more about their history towards the end of last year. And let me tell you- from learning about style differences, variations and innovations in them, all the way to learning about all of these different makers all over the world, it has made me really proud of being a player. Because it's a funky little unique instrument, but it's also one that's been so beloved and used and changed by so many hands! I really hope that we can all get the ocarina museum running!

It wasn't invented in Italy, It was just given a shape, tuned to a european scale and renamed, after being taken to Europe, They originally used it as a trinket from the americas, pretty much a toy, But, it's origins are native american, Inca, Myan, Aztec and other pre-columbian cultures, I love the little vessel flutes and have been making them for years. It would be nice to see the proper history of the ocarinas lineage in a museum!!!

That's correct! The *classical* ocarina that we know today was invented in Italy, and Giuseppe Donati is the one who turned them into instruments with classical scaling, and the term "ocarina" itself is also Italian. Ocarinas originate in Mesoamérica, and there are many more varieties of vessel flutes from around the world that have existed for thousands of years

@@AndyCormierYT Thanks Andy, Not sure what you're saying correct to, as I respectfully disagree, (Invented and Redesigned) are two very different things, Also thank you for letting me know "Ocarina" is Italian, So is my wife, and she says it's ucaréṅna, But what do I know?! The only ancient vessel flutes I know are the Chinese edge blown xun, The Native american fipple vessels and the gourd vessels that are played with the nose. The rest are young runoffs of the others, even the Japanese have a version, It's beautiful, I love the Japanese music scale.
