I realize I have mainly spoken as an "expert" with ocarinas and learning to play them-perhaps seeing me struggle with a new instrument can help YOU overcome your fear of well, the difficulty of learning!

You're so inspirational, Andy. I didn't expect this sort of a video for today but I kind of enjoyed it. Learning something new is always a good thing! You're never going to be instantly good at something and you will struggle at it at first. I remember over 20 years ago, before I really became good at computers, my grandma bought me my first really decent computer. I had it for 2 days and I managed to mess it up. It came with Windows XP but the specs weren't awesome for it and I preferred Windows 98 at the time. I knew how to install it, but I didn't really know some of the advanced things like NTFS vs FAT32. Well, long story short, I ended up with Windows 98 on my recovery partition with at the time, seemingly no way to get back to my XP installation. I also didn't have internet access at the time, so I didn't have drivers either! So, I ended up having to call Hewlett-Packard in order to receive recovery CDs to fix it! But a little while later, I investigated what went wrong and why it went wrong. I learned from it! So, what I'm saying is that when you go into a new venture, you are going to mess up. You aren't going to get it right the first, second, third, or maybe even the fourth time around. But don't let that scare you! Always keep at it and eventually, you can master it! It's like that for anything. I'm looking forward to seeing you play the Ukelele too! Keep being you! You're a real inspiration! :)

I'm still very new to an ocarina but I'm loving it so far! After seeing this and the ukulele, I'm considering trying out the 7 sting lyre. Its an instrument I've been interested in for a while, but I always figured I'm not good enough at music to try. But with all the yt tutorials that are available, I might be able to do it

Have you tried using forked fingerings for accidentals? Sometimes they can be more precise/consistent depending on the instrument

Interesting video but they do not seem to be sounding like they are in the same key the Ocarina he was using to compare sounds a lot deeper

What you seem to be picking up on is the difference in timbre or characteristic of the instruments. The pitch itself - although having a tiny difference - is around the same note. The tiny difference might just be tuning related or a technique thing that needs to be adjusted a little depending on the instrument.

can you please recommend an ocarina to play any song from legend of zelda? i really want to do it but there are a bunch of poor quality ocarinas :(

tldr version: Start with plastic, a "night by noble" or focalink bravura Otherwise Andy and David Erick Ramos have videos about things to look for/avoid.

@@GavinBisesi thank you, I want an ocarina (the double ocarina would be great) to play the songs from legend of Zelda oot and majoras

@@orejadearena9197 I'd start with a single chamber alto c to learn the basics. You can play many of the songs using that range, and most of the skill transfers to doubles. But I don't think there are really good plastic multi chamber ones, so you should practice first before jumping to a ceramic double, I think. Though if it really motivates you it's not bad to dive in

@@GavinBisesi i already have a single (really bad oot ocarina) and the range of notes is terrible that's why i would like to start with a double and cover more songs because a lot of times im restricted because of the little range of notes :(

@@orejadearena9197 in that case have a look at stein, songbird, imperial city ocarina for multi chamber. There's other good makers but those are good places to start. You're less likely to find a total crap double I think because the market isn't there for it like it is for $15 single chambers

Hello Andy I recently came across some good fortune, so money is no object, so if you could buy any ocarina, which one would you buy, or in other words, what is the current Stratavarius of the ocarina world in your opinion?
@vhfgamer

Spencer. He's not taking orders at the moment though. That's just my opinion though, I'm sure Andy has thoughts too.

@@5thkiechannel I think Andy has mentioned that if he could have only ONE ocarina (and it did not have to be within his current collection), that is the one he would choose. If you are just starting out on the ocarina, though, I might caution against a triple chamber and stick to a single to learn the basics. But that's just me; I have heard of people jumping straight in.
