You speak the truth, Kemo Sabe ! Mr Dafoe is one of my all time fave actors. Incredibly talented but yet he's so down to earth. He's totally dedicated to his craft & doesn't seem to have any ego at all. He's funny, smart, kind, friendly, sweet & humble. A class act all the way !

The Florida Project is a great movie. Bria was great as the mother and Dafoe was extraordinarily naturalistic and did not "act" for 1 second of his performance. But Brooklynn completely steals the movie. She is a revelation, a 100% transcendent performance by a child actor.

I think in general this is a hard film for Hollywood to accept. they don't want to accept the fact that it could compete with big budget studio projects as a no budget indie. they dont want to accept the fact that it successfully broke the traditional 3 act structure that is there bread and butter. they dont want to accept the fact that they an unknown was able to preform on the same level as actors they pay 5-20 million a film for. and most of all they dont like having to take a head on look at the realism of everyday poverty in America. it is unacceptable to be racist, sexist, or homophobic amongst liberal elites or Hollywood elites or whatever and that's why movies like "moonlight" "the Dallas buyers club" or "12 years a slave" (all great movies btw) did so well at that Oscars but this movie not only didn't do well, it wasn't even nominated (besides William for best supporting actor) for anything so that it could even not do well. classism and snubbing your nose at poor people is not just a republican thing and Democrats are not as progressive and willing to address the poverty issue as people make em out to be. that's just my theory though, doesn't mean its true.

I lived in that area for 14 years. This is real life in Kissimmee. Once Disney started their all inclusive packages all these hotels/restaurants along 192 lost most of their business, became run down ect. Then the housing market crashed, people lost their houses and moved to the hotels. Great job by the cast

This makes me feel guilty for ever visiting the parks. The greed of these big corporations always destroys the ‘little people’. Ironic when you think that these companies are forever virtue signalling about the good they do, yet at the same time they’re exploiting & destroying everything that stands in their way of making more & more money which only ever trickles upwards. I mean, you’d think the Disney corporation would try & share the wealth a bit in these areas but after watching this movie I realised their sole purpose is to not only to make money but to take it away from everyone else.

Watched The Florida Project today in Los Angeles and captivated me incredibly, the whole room (full house, btw) was in touch with their inner child, they laughed, they oohed, they awed with such tenderness, it was a beautiful experience, I can't wait whatever Sean Baker decides to put his hands onto next. Mr. Dafoe gave a phenomenal performance but in my humble opinion, his costars are so amazingly talented that steal all the attention. Great interview, first timer in this channel, great moderator, great synergy. 👍🏼

Just watched The Florida Project and must say it's one of the best movies that I've seen in years. The performances were oscar worthy as well as the script and cinematography so why did this film get overlooked by the academy? And honestly, people who say "Halley" the mom in the film was a bad mom got nothing out of the film and wasted their time. Either that or they're just terribly out of touch with reality. Halley was trying the best she could in a system that was set against her. Poor people were meant to stay poor, some of us get lucky but most don't. I also grew up in poverty, and even lived in motels and homeless shelters as well. I always got the bare minimum which is food, clothes etc. Halley went to desperate measures to make sure her daughter never went hungry and at least had the bare minimum. I don't agree with what she did obviously but in her world there wasn't an alternative. I doubt she had any secondary education or even a high school diploma and most jobs won't hire you and the jobs that do hire you will pay next to nothing which would all go to childcare fees for her daughter which she couldn't afford. Ironically the government will now pay this random foster family to take care of her daughter instead of providing the money to Halley to at least help. I can say this confidently because this was my childhood. CPS desperately attempted to take me away from my family to go live with strangers but luckily my grandma stepped in and she took care of me.

What's interesting is if you actually realize how much these people pay per month to stay at a motel, they could have so much more for so much less. HOWEVER, people who end up living in motels normally have criminal backgrounds, or bad credit, and finding a place that's willing to lease an apartment to you is often impossible, especially in huge tourist area. Florida's cost of living is actually quite low, but the cost of housing (because it's a tourist destination, but also a retirement one) is outrageous. These people aren't homeless in the traditional sense, they're stuck between having enough money to rent a place (but lacking the money for first and last months rent, plus deposit) and being one paycheck away from being on the street. Nearly every part of Florida has "communities" like this.
