damn academy, the least you could do was nominate the film.

As an Orlando person I find it amazing that people didn't even know this kind of lifestyle existed. During the recession especially "motel life" was pretty widespread in Central Florida, the people who could find jobs could only find part time min wage and ended up not having enough to pay the up front costs for an apartment and ended up in motels.

Perhaps the highest compliment I can say is that 4 days after this film. I knew I had experienced something amazing and it was still weighing on me. Incredible work.

They seem really interested in the movie even though they snubbed it pretty much.

Really good movie. Bria was great as the mother and Dafoe was extraordinarily naturalistic and did not "act" for 1 second of his performance. But Brooklynn completely steals the movie. She is a revelation, a 100% transcendent performance by a child actor.

Jonathan Blaze love that you said Dafoe did not "act" in the movie. That's the best definition for dafoe's perfomance in this movie.

I love the scene when she's giving him the money and they're just laughing and he's like "can i count it?" it feels so natural and like something that would happen in real life

in my opinion, they achieved every objective they had as far as consumer perspective.
