A wotlk disc priest that brings back a lot of memories it was my main class and spec in both PVP and PVE and it was always a ton of fun and extremely effective. Open world PVP was also hilarious with just how insanely hard a disc priest was to kill, it was for sure one of the few class specs I never had to fear rogues with, they could not win a 1 v 1 fight.

I generally enjoyed priest in WOLK, particularly after the introduction of the multi spec tool. Prior to that in BC, I had to leave my spec in Holy for raiding, which crippled soloing and the questing. The ability to raid Holy or Disc and then go quest in Shadow was a big win.

Idk man, shadow priest is top 1v1 class but vs retri pala you just get shit on without question. You can't win. Retri pala is the king of 1v1. Also vs destro lock you can lose very hard. But if that talbadar played vs noob people then yes, shadow priest is best 1v1😂😂

Shadow was like a one man army in pvp back in the days. Glyph of dispel or w/e it's named heals everytime you dispel something was insanely good. Glyph of dispel, glyph of power word shield with improved power word shield talent, kept you alive long enough to outlast any class really.

Important to note Rapture batches (you can shield a ton of targets before a raid AoE and get multiple procs in the CD window), and Penance benefits from the 25% haste from Shield without consuming it. It also stacks buffs e.g. Solace of the Fallen or Grace per volley. Also, in terms of what they gain, comparatively Shackle and Abolish Disease gain a bunch of uses, especially in the context of DKs (Lichborne, Gargoyle, Pet, Diseases). Also, Dispel Magic becomes very important as there are a billion trash buffs in Wrath, and Paladins can quickly become useless with just a single dispel chance per GCD. Also Prayer of Healing heals the party of the target, not restricted to the priest. For Shadow, a huge change is Silence is off the GCD.

@Peeshy Look at World First ICC 25 by Paragon. It's a Disc priest who tops the meters. And Disc is even stronger than HPala in the earlier tiers, and still by the end of the expansion they're still on top. The paladins are even below the shaman, the MT Pala is a whole 25% below the Disc. WillE saying Paladins are the best in his video is really a huge blunder. Most raids bring 1 priest, Disc, who will indeed outheal (meters will start taking into account Absorbed damage... they have to for Disc) all the paladins. Oh, your heals double? Okay, 50% of it overheals, and I do a 15k absorb every single global with a built in 25% haste, which also prevents the raid from taking damage for you to heal...so I am effectively cutting off another 50% of your healing if you are not the MT healer. And all the raid will love the priest as they give them rage/mana/energy/rp with the exact same spell. And that comment was clearly PvP oriented. In what context is 'trash buffs' ever used outside PvP? But I guess you're one of the 50% of dad gamer WoW players who know literally nothing. Have fun watching your priest on Loatheb single handedly carry the fight and literally 5xing your output, all while mindlessly just pressing [@mouseover] PW:S up the Party frames. But again, my comment is PvP oriented. Idk why you're getting horny thinking about Beacon of Light. PvE is already a joke--these expansions were built around people with low Gear Score running on potatoes with 10 frames per second, and everyone and their mom knows healing meters are even more pointless. This is *the* PvP expansion, relax. Any monkey can clear ICC, you'll get your gear even if you aren't topping healing meters. Any monkey can spam @mouseover PW:S or Beacon of Light -> spam Holy Light

@@godmodeon666 Zhinn was their holy priest, and he tops the meters because holy is really good at raid healing. Jhazrun was their disc priest, and he is at the bottom of the meter. That's because absorbs weren't properly readable in the combat log, so disc just looked bad in meters, even if they did a lot of work (which he absolutely did on lk). The shaman has a lot of healing because he aoe heals too. The paladins are high on the meter in phase 1, where two tanks take damage. After that, they drop because the second tank only takes damage sporadically (when he soaks the spirits). Disc is arguably better for single target healing than paladin, because they have an EHP buff with aegis. Paladins are really strong when two tanks take damage. They both do different things, and healing isn't something you do against other healers anyhow.

I played priest back in Wrath and had tons of fun with S/priest in battle grounds and world pvp and a side of dungeon, I mostly healed as disc in raids and arena though. I’ve been struggling with choosing a class this time around but for some reason, I keep coming back to shadow.

In bgs I used to spec into holy until you get the speed Increase bubble, then spec into disc all the way up to improves flash heal. What a fun spec to play

Something I remember doing as a Disc priest in Wrath was using the holy nova glyph (25% boost to damage and healing done by holy nova) to help take down groups of mobs at once. Using holy nova like that was very mana expensive lol but it was still fun to mess around with.

I wish we could at least have cosmetic glyphs for that. For example, mechanically speaking they just copy-pasted the human paladin into every race that can be paladin, when lorewise a sunwalker, a blood knight, and zandalari prelates could be considered entirely different classes.

Disc pvp in wrath is so much fun because you can actually kill people who try to stick to you when you outgear them. Warriors and rogues have 0 window to kill you so long as you have mana for shield, penance and renew. Plus because the mana regain mechanics you have constant uptime on your regen. It's one of the few times when playing a healer that you feel solid both offensively and defensively ( along with the remade holy pally).

I've played Holy Priest at the beginning and end of Wotlk. My guild always tried to push me to change to disc and now and then i played as disc. However, it just wasn't my playstyle. It's literally only pressing one button the whole fights. Sure, its super good and very effective, but for me it felt so dull to play. I always switched back to holy for the versatility. It was way more fun! I feel like this doesn't get enough focus. Anyway, good video.

Priests are just amazing through most expansions and WotLK is one of them. Holy might not be the best overall, but I had an amazing Holy priest in my roster when I was raid leading and she was the most solid raider that I had in the quiver. Holy requires so much skill, but it pays off!

We had a holy priest in our guild from Ulduar through ICC and he was just outstanding. It definitely varies by player skill. Also as mentioned below, Holy does seem to fit in a niche that resto does. Not as many dots, but the combination of Prayer of Mending pinging off of your friends along with Renew, Circle of Heal, and Flash/Greater Heal definitely define Holy as a jack of all trades. To be very clear, there were NO bad healing specs in Wrath, just a few that excelled.

As a holy priest myself back in wrath, it was one of the easiest healer I've played. Can't say disc was much harder, but disc required knowledge of the fight much more then holy. Holy is just "see damage - heal it". Also, a lot if instant heals, PoM instant cast, flash heal instant procs - you can easily top healing charts, you don't need casts that much at all. Just PoM and circle on cooldown was already a lot of healing, which you can do while moving. Also, there was fun to play renew build, which was extremely mana efficient, that was probably the only option if you miss pala heal in your 10 man setup. I don't get why some people think holy is a hard one to play good at all. Resto druids need to know encounters to prehot, same do disc to preshield, you even can easy tell difference between good and great hpaladin bc of the utility player can use. But I'm pretty sure good and great Holypriests are not that far away in efficiency, if you are very skilled player, disc will benefit you much more.

Disc was fantastic. I remember tanks would turn off pre-shields until grace since they missed aggro. Also since it's % total mana based, disc preferring a high pool over spirit meant more regen as well. I mass dispelled through faction champs and carried the locust swarm phase of the nerubian boss to get grand crusader

Shadow priests in wrath were completely op simply due to the mana regen they provided. The balance for that is you only needed one per caster group. I played both and they were still top-tier healers, but they broke the mould with shadow.

@@jeremykothe2847 not really. Ret Paladins also provide the same mana regen buff (it’s raid wide, for either ret or sp) and shadow priests drop mind blast from their rotation after they get 4/5 t10. In 3.3.5 the only thing they really bring is their dispersion mechanic (very valuable in Lich King and Algalon) and vampiric embrace which is passive healing to whatever group that priest is in. Also 3% hit for raid but boomkins also bring this. As far as raw dps goes, they are outclassed by mages, warriors, frost death knights, rogues, even afflic warlocks are stronger. Depends on the encounter though.

15:23 Inner fire, priest is a clothie that is mainly worried about melee matchups. Alternatively PW: Shield for extra sustain. The dmg priority is Holy fire > Penance > Mind Blast > Smite with Mind control, Mana burn and SW: Death as situational substitutions. That said Smite is cast quite consistently so maybe it's not that bad.

GS glyph was necessary for fights like dreamwalker since it stacked with the buff if I recall. We ran 2-3 holy priests with 1 switching to Disc for Deathbringer. It was was an amazing time to be a holy priest. You would pop Hymn of Hope for regen combined with Solace trinket and shadow fiend = GG

I dont use the flash heal manacost reduction, I use the mass dispell talent instead and I even glyph it. Its not very viable in icecrown but its very viable in togc chanpions fight where you need to dispell all the time with mass dispell.

Should also be noted that there are three variations of holy priest that are viable. Serendipity, Empowered Renew, and Hybrid of these 2. Empowered Renew is great for mobility and acts kind of like a rDruid. Serendipity is pure healing, and Hybrid blends the two by sacrificing certain talents.

2:18 Hymn of Hope: In mana intensive fights when you get into a transition phase popping this followed by a resto shamans mana tide totem is a amazing combo. Because the % increase max mana from Hymn means you get more mana from the mana totem, which is a fantastic raid utility. Holy Priest thoughts: Starts off as the worst healer when concerned with mana management and it ends up okay towards the end of the expansion. Holy priest is in a weird spot. It excels at low health healing but there aren't that many fights where that becomes a thing, especially in a earlier tiers. It struggles with mana early on because you simply lack stats to maintain the spirit regen buff allowing you to get 100% of your mp5 while casting with the disc mp5 talent stacked onto the holy one. No one can compare to paladins with it coms to tank healing and for raid healing shamans have amazing smart healing & utility while druids bring a battle rez and will be the last raid healer to go oom period. Dk's don't have battle rez in this expansion so you want druids where you can fit them. 5:18 it's quite common to only have 1 point in Empowered Renew so your renew can proc your mp5 and to drag points out of Divine Fury to pick up Test of Faith. 5:50 The PW:shield to healing glyph can be used to maintain your mp5 talent as the heal can crit, I'll note again that holy priest has mana problems early on. I've never seen anyone take the Guardian spirit glyph as there's rarely a need to plan around it and if necessary you can alternate it with the prot paladins passive version. Disc Priest thoughts: It starts out strong and it ends strong. The mana sustain of disc is superior to holy and the more INT you get, the better it becomes. Get an addon to track Rapture's CD to abuse it. Borrowed Time: when you get good at managing can be viewed as a 95% uptime 25% haste buff. Instant casts don't consume the buff, so when you don't need to spam shields you can weave instants then throw out a casted heal followed by a another to regain it immediately. Most importantly, you can give someone a shield wall, literally. Shadow Priest thoughts: Starts out average and ends in a good place in the expansion. Excels when in multi-target fights. Mana battery potential was nerfed to 15% mana / minute, which is still great but since it's more common now it's not as amazing.

In disc once u get a caster trinket that procs spellpower, u can switch the 10% mana on flash heal to the one that gives you 1% mana per tick of shadow word pain, u gonna maintain it to proc that fatty trinket and get even bigger bubbles with small mana regen :)

Replenishment uptime may actually be an issue in top guilds. Frost is no Destro is no Survival goes MM later Leaving potentially 1 Ret and 1 Shadow to do replenishment. My guild is discussing 0 Ret as well. So the mana battery may be brought by a single player.

Straight to the point. Spriest in pvp is, from start to finish, a top tier spec. Some patches through expansions the first on the meta (the best) and sometimes the last but NEVER outside the top. Its just so well desgined for what pvp is. In wrath expect nothing but that. In cata it just gets better and in mop basically the same.

Meditation isn't really buffed. In wrath spirit regen was nerfed by 40%. Talents like meditation got "buffed" from 30 to 50% to compensate for this change, resulting in the same effective regen while within the five second rule.

I remember that there weren't good ways of actually measuring the full effectiveness of a Disc priest until Cata came out. Something about the available addons didn't calculate prevented damage as well. I know a lot of people thought they were weak for PVE.

I understand the amount of imbalance it brought; I honestly think that was felt nowhere stronger than in the Alliance, where in Vanilla a Dwarf Priest could be wearing low level green items and as long as they could cast Fear Ward they were a mandatory raid member, and in TBC Draenei Priest (in my opinion) was top tier due to having excellent Priest Racials as well as regular racials that overshadowed almost all other options for at least PvE, giving their entire group +1% spell hit, along with Gift of the Naaru scaling with gear. So while I understand that it was a balancing nightmare because what raid would want a Priest who could apply an Arcane damage DoT and give themself a dodge chance buff over the Priest who could provide an extra source of healing, spellhit, and groupwide MP5? But simply getting rid of basically all of them feels a bit overkill. I'm sure that if they could make Desperate Prayer a Holy Talent, make Devouring Plague a baseline Shadow spell, and make Symbol of Hope into a baseline Holy spell while also giving it a massive rework, I'm sure they could have found a way to implement Chastise and Hex of Weakness as well. There isn't really that many class abilities that can reduce a target's healing, and Priest's only CC is an 8 second fear with a half minute cooldown, so Trolls losing Hex of Weakness and Dwarves/Draenei losing Chastise feels really harsh.

Mind sear is big change :( since you cant cast it on tank that means that you will hit one mob less... since it does not damage your target. That means less damage in aoe :(

Used to raid a priest back in the day before. Classic but I couldn’t be bothered leveling another one from zero ….. bought a boost and let me say am I ever glad I did , absolutely missed playing a priest and how accepting everyone is in the game to have a priest in there groups…. Not to mention the dual spec that came with wotlk. Makes it so much better being able to cross spec shadow or disc for leveling then respec back to holy for raids was a game changer , absolutely love my priest. They rape in pvp too 😂

i played Disc priest at toon and got the LK 10hc kill with him before my main druid guardian. Disc was extremly good and fun in Wotlk. i loved to log in on my disc and just hunt other players in 1k winter. you could easily kill other DDs only other priest shadow or disc were dangerous. if i'm going to play Wotlk then only disc priest and rule everything *hrhrhr* imo disc in Wotlk was the best version ever.

Did I miss you talking about Coh? That was a major reason Holy became weak. Your major aoe heal suddenly gets what felt like a lengthy CD at least compared for it coming from a gcd. Can't remember what version of PoH we will get but I remember it becoming an aoe that other people have no clue where it is so run out of it when casting. I think the final patch may have fixed it BUT the damage was done and disc was required for that shield spam. You also didn't address that damage absorbed no longer prevents rage build up for warriors and counts as healing done for pallies which was previously a reason to not be shielding a tank tank unless they really needed it or just wanted to steal healing from others as your mana was fine.

That wasn't prayer of healing you're thinking of - it would be holy word: serenity that was the aoe effect on the ground - but that wasn't added until cataclysm when they started introducing the whole thing with chakras. Prayer of healing just becomes a spell that you can target anyone with and it heals members of their group within 30 yards - so while circle of healing *does* get nerfed with a cooldown, prayer of healing becomes significantly more versatile since you can target other groups other than your own now, and the serendipity talent where casting flash or binding heal gives haste to your next prayer of healing cast gives the whole toolkit amazing synergy. Whether or not this makes up for the circle of healing nerf is certainly up for debate haha, but it does mean holy suddenly has a quite a few more spells it needs to use on a regular basis, and it meant a lot of people weren't very good at it.

@@timmy3441 just read the patch notes, and can see where I got confused. It stays as a party wide heal but you pick the person to center on. Whilst I think all other multiperson heals become raid wide. However, the person you target has no clue you are targeting them (by default) and neither do those in their party. Resulting in people running out of range. I remember chakras, those were great, raid wide with a big mark on the floor visible for everyone to see.

Just spam shields. Why I would flash heal or renew, a weak hot. More or less this. You have holy paly and shamys to direct heal and druids to sustain HoT. So what else I'm missing? o.õ

Love your vids WillE, but you forgot something very important.. Holy is the most fun healing spec to play! In terms of HPS, it can outheal other classes in heavy inc. AOE damage fights.

Sadly, it can never outheal other classes, because the raw healing output is just so much lower than paladin, shaman and druid. You'd have to be really good with mediocre teammates to actually be #1. But hell yeah, it is fun.

No it's not, it can even outheal any class when played well. Got my own vid but you can also youtube paragon lich king heroic 25 world first. Holy priest outhealed all others by a mile and they were defo not mediocre back in the day :)

@@praytje87 Sir, i can tell you, that every other class with high-end gear simply has more healing output. If holy priest actually achieves good effective healing, the overheal is going to be really, really low. "Back in the days" doesn't matter anymore, because people gathered a LOT of experience on private servers. And trust me on this one, holy priest is not going to be played in ICC.

@@lenkradborke7226 pro guilds are currently running holy priests in their setups on the BETA servers fyi. Again, when played well holy priests can outheal other classes in alot of fights, especially with high inc aoe damage. They got alot of 'instant' heal opportunities (e.g. CoH, PoM, instant free Flash Heals when procced). They can snipe it all. Also funny to see alot of youtubers talking about haste on holy priests, really i only focus on SP and crit. We'll see :D

@@praytje87 I am not talking about Instances and Naxxramas. In Ulduar and onwards holy priest becomes absolutely useless in comparison and disc is the only healing priest that is going to be used. Basically prayer of healing would have to be smart and not just heal one group, then holy priest would be really good. Also, you need haste as holy priest, because it lowers your global cooldown. Skipping haste is basically the worst thing you can do and shows me, that you don't have deep knowledge of the game and it's not meant to be an insult.

Holy is a very fun spec to play, and one of the most difficult healers if not the most, but nobody wants it in an ideal raid, or at least you'll be a last option. Everything that holy brings to the table, can be done better by almost any other healer, sadly. On the other hand, Disc is unique in the way that prevents noob people from getting oneshoted because of the "extra health" that the shield provides, plus it's a lot better at mana management, while Holy is a mana whore basically the entirety of the expansion
