Magnificent! It's high pitch is in no way disagreeable, it has such a tranquil sound!

Lol, each to their own. I think it sounds silly given that the context is begging God for forgiveness (since that's what a miserere is).

@@CandiceGoddardMiserere is a request for mercy. The "silliness" is your projection. You can project silliness onto anything. That's how things that are amazing end up dated.

I love the sound of this little virginal--somewhat to my surprise, because I've heard other ottavini which set my teeth on edge. What's the difference--besides the touch of the skilled builder and sensitive musician? Why the pure thirds of quarter-comma meantone temperament, what else? So simple, yet so essential!

Beautifully played. It's a piece that I've known for so long that I've also kind of made it "my own". I also might borrow some of your ficta choices, some of which are very striking! Question: Why doesn't the chant used by Byrd as the cantus firmus match any... and I mean ANY of the monophonic chant settings of the Miserere I'm able to find? Do you know where to find it? When playing these pieces, I like to state the monophonic chant first before commencing the newer polyphonic setting. But Byrd's cantus firmus is different than any other setting I am able to find!

Maravilloso!!! Bravo. La réplica de este cembalo es de que instrumento? Me refiero a su país del instrumento original a partir del cual se hizo la réplica.

Beautiful playing and sound. I have a spinet but a few of the keys won't return after playing. It appears that the mechanism isn't falling back under the string. Do you have any tips for adjusting this please?
@clementmatchett2 жыл бұрын
The key levers just rock on a pin which engages with a hole in the lever. Try easing the hole with a bradawl or a suitably-sized nail, taking care only to ease it along the longitudinal axis. If that doesn’t work, get a small piece of lead sheet and glue it to the underside of the key lever towards its distal end.

Is a spinet a kind of virginal?

Ed, you may be right, but the score which Colin is playing from, and from which I play the same anthem, appears in FWB as 'Miserere in four parts'. As you obviously know, and I have learned, though I am not a Catholic, the words are a setting of, Psalm 67: In English, "Lord be merciful unto us and Bless us, Let the light of Your Countenance shine and Gives Us Peace,... Lord Have Mercy Upon us... "

It was built by Colin Booth, who has a website. He has made several and may still have one for sale, I don't know.
