I do Traditional Wing Chun. I laugh at others trying to rubbish Grand Master William Cheung. He is so graceful & fluid in his movements. You can see his power & speed. The intelligent fighters will take note of his teachings.

I started-off in TWC and to be honest it's actually not a half-bad system. As there are definitely practical aspects of it. But ultimately it's garbage if you were to compare it to Philip Bayer VT. Which I made the switch to starting a few years back. Even Sifu Nenad Koviljac did the same thing.

@@Praxonis I am 50 and have been training in martial arts every single day of my life since I was 10 and have mastered among other systems and styles, 5 different Wing Chun lineages and have personally trained with both Grandmasters Wong Shun Leung in Hong Kong in my early twenties and William Cheung in my mid twenties. They are both amazing, as are the other grandmasters that I have trained with, including Garrett Gee (Red Boat), Eddie Chong (Pan Nam) and Wong Nim Yi (Mei Gei Wong Wing Chun). I have nothing but respect and admiration for the amazing Phillip Bayer and for what he has accomplished, and of course for the excellent Wang Zhi Peng who is probably one of the best Wing Chun masters in the world today, but STOP comparing lineages and masters, you only hurt Wing Chun. If Phillipe Bayer's style works better for you, then by all means continue practicing it, as should Riki Jenkins continue practicing TWC, both lineages are equally good and so are the grandmasters, but there's no garbage, it all depends on the practitioner. A good William Cheung practitioner can kill a moderate Phillip Bayer practitioner and vice versa, and all of you Wing Chun students need to realise that. I do of course have a personal opinion of which system is better and which Master is better too, both as a teacher and as a fighter, but I prefer to keep it for myself than causing useless discussions, but what I can tell you is that the differences are very little and again: it depends on the student and what works better for anyone and how hard you'll work on it, it's as simple as that.

@@Mario-R-3232 TWC relies too much on the sidestep as a crutch assuming an opponent will freeze in time for all those diaphragm shots. Which rarely happens majority of the time against a cognizant opponent. VT(Philip Bayer system) relies solely on closer range skill. Can a fighter from both systems potentially beat eachother? Sure.. But if you compare the merits, virtues and focused skillsets of both system to one another, its clear which one is alright and mediocre and which is exceptional 🙂

@@Praxonis Dear friend, there's no Philip Bayer system, there's the Wong Shun Leung Wing Chun, which Phillip Bayer was taught. And it's really amazing, as is Philip Bayer himself. As for TWC, the opponent freezes during the drills, so you can learn more movements, it wont be like that in a real situation, but this helps your body and hands learn things and then apply them automatically to the level that you need. As I said, I have mastered both systems and I know exactly what you're trying to say, but I have trained for years with both grandmasters in Hong Kong and Melbourne, one is better than the other, you cant really tell, and the differences aren't as many as you probably think, when you get to master the systems. My point is, and the reason of my initial comment, that Wing Chun practitioners really need to stop all the politics and also argue about which lineage is better and which master is better. It's all about what works for you best and how good you will master it .You have done TWC, it didn't work for you too good, while the Wong Shun Leung system did, that's absolutely great. For me, both of them worked more than fine in more than 100 fights (due to me professional as an ex bouncer at clubs and casinos and also security expert and current vip bodyguard worldwide for more than 20 years), but none of them as good as another lineage, but as I said: that has to do with me and nobody else, you shouldn't compare lineages and masters, just do as good as you can, what works for you best, it's as simple as that.

@@Mario-R-3232 I am very well aware that Philip Bayer is under WSL lineage. But he has attained such proficiency and skill that he has managed to carve-out his own stature and greatly distinguish himself from all other Sifus within that lineage. Also it's not that TWC didn't work too good for me. I just discovered that it only works against particular and specific opponents that tend to mindlessly throw all their unmitigated weight forward at you like a linebacker who doesn't think twice of stopping midway and by the time they do they already fly right in front of and passed you after you've stepped to their side just in time to get in all those diaphragm shots. But most(or alot) of opponents whom are skillfull and too experienced won't make such a petty-careless mistake. Where you need actual hard and raw skill to defeat them. Which is what WSLPBVT focuses the best at. TWC? Not so much.. they focus on practicing too much for that ideal and hopeful scenario where you forward step to their blindside. A scenario which realistically doesn't always play out that way. Btw I am actually quite fascinated you've mastered 5 systems. Truly incredible. I probably won't ever come that close to such mastery. Still pretty exceptional nevertheless. Hats-off to you my good sir.

I trained with William Cheung 40 plus years ago for a number of years, and yes seen the ego battles etc a shame , our Kung fu didn’t look like this back then, it was efficient, effective etc,I will never regret my time there but I understand a lot of people having a nasty taste left with them

I have been training & teaching Traditional Wing Chun (William Cheung's) for ten years. But I felt a real difference when I started training Wing Tsun (WT) system of EWTO (Leung Ting's & Keith Kernspecht's system). Now I feel Traditional Wing Chun doesn't work for me & is not the best Kung Fu. My suggestion to people who say "Traditional WC works" is just join another school either WT, VT or may be EBMAS, proWES & keep training for at least 1-2 years & see the difference

For all we know you're probably just bullshitting about having trained in TWC and just so you can shill Leung Ting's system. I look at Leung Ting's system and you guys have *HORRIBLE* weight distribution of 20/80 or 30/70 where you're literally leaning back on your rear leg while decreasing your fighting range which automatically puts you at a disadvantage against a boxer who will focus on outranging you and picking you apart. At least Cheung's system emphasizes on a realistic and practical 50/50 even weight distribution. Here is the Leung Ting system you're promoting: kzbin.info/www/bejne/eICYe6t3fph2etk

+MrAkaalis : 2 min of entertainment every day is not much. Beside, I don't play game on line like so many slackers do. I just like to smack that con man William Cheung always for the sin he committed to Wing Chun! He lie about his learning WC from Ip Man so his crap, err.... craft is Turd-itional! lol!

Idiot comment. Dont you see his contributions to martial art community thru his training? His wc methodology and principles maybe different from others like ip man but it depends on personality, style. WC has been existed for more than 400 years, not founded by IP man anyway.

Boztepe sneaked up behind Cheung and attacked him. Why couldn’t Boztepe had done it a more honorable way, like an open invitation for a fair challenge, and why he wore protective padding on his body on that day, what was he afraid of? Can you answer that for him?

Read, remember, and acknowledge what the Traditional H.K Wing Chun Association have said about this man's previous claims, and you will learn why he was excommunicated, scorned and indeed shunned by so many of the wise Chinese traditional practitioners. He does not have a good reputation for a variety of reasons. The main one being a lack of integrity, and false absurd claims. that he has learn't additional secret techniques, the only indoor student and the list goes on and on. Beware of the charlatans in martial arts,he unfortunately is one of many.

And yet, when he went to HK, to Yip Man's memorial and gave a speech in front of all of the association members and senior Yip Man students, not ONE of them had anything to say to him. Not ONE of them called him out or disassociated from him. Not ONE. Lots of people talk shit (especially Yip Man's sons who didn't even join their father in HK until much later), but no-one would say shit to his face, especially some unknown idiot dropping ignorant comments on KZbin. Sit down and shut up.

This not real Wc. Wc is direct, and simulataneous, this is multiple steps. You cant always get to the outside, and so you must go down the middle. He always has to go on the outside. Not always possible or practical.

I get what you're saying. But this particular system is actually most useful against those particular knucklehead opponents who charge at you coming forward throwing all their committed weight at you. Where you step to the side and watch them pass right in front of you which is your frozen moment in time to unload on their diaphragm, neck or mastoid area. Otherwise it's all Philip Bayer VT from here on out.
