This is really sad. He seems like a really good guy that had some bad habits. Hope he can recover and turn over a new leaf in life. I’m from Columbia, SC (born & raised) and Fridge is from a town only 1 hour 15 minutes away from me (Aiken, SC). I’ve been a die hard South Carolina Gamecocks fan my whole life, and William Perry played for our arch rival Clemson Tigers. I’ve always respected his accomplishments in football.

Say what you want, the FRIDGE was theeeeee man. When size matters, he took that to a whole new level. A true gentle giant with a kids heart and when game day started, oh he could play alright. I pray Mr. Perry will be okay. I enjoyed watching him play. Anyone who knows anything about professional football, knows that these men give it all. Sure, some want fame and fortune. Others just want a paycheck. Still, there are those in the NFL that are the very embodiment of what it means to sacrifice all. Mr. Perry is such a man. Maybe he did not take care of himself as he should of. Maybe he did stuff he shouldn't have, but who are we to stand in judgment of him? I really like the big guy. Fun and just so impressive to watch. A true football players player, both on and off the field. May he know that he has a legion of fans out there that still love him and pray for him............🏈⛪

There are many valuable lessons in this story. Some are logical and some are painful, but they're all useful. (1) True greatness is not measured by a person's material wealth. Material things will leave us or we will leave them. (2) Notoriety often brings calamity. The same media that helps "make" us will often turn on us and "break" us. The spotlight is not always the right light. (3) The important things in life are not contracts, money, and movies. The truly important thing is as the write of Ecclesiastes says, "Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the while duty of mankind." (Ecclesiastes 12:14-14; Acts 2:37-38; Galatians 3:26-29; Matthew 16:18; Ephesians 4:1-6)

The NFL has done an excellent job at selling their brand to the public. Instead of pushing our boys to be doctors, lawyers, and scholars like we did in the 50's 60's and 70's we are now pushing them to be football players and we are now very proud when they are recruited into the NFL. But the NFL careers are very short and the risks are very high for injury. this story is a prime example. Unfortunately, for every casualty, they now have a large number of young men wanting to replace them.
