*The sound of bagpipes invoke something within us we'll never be able to explain. No matter where in the world you are, you feel it too.*

And , piper's heritage(s) extend all over the world ; wherever men have watched over their flocks , they've invented the flutes , the harps & the pipes out of the materials the flock provided , seems somehow intrinsiciy 'in tune with nature' that the animals they watched over were comforted by instruments their fellows provided ! ( The exact wordage escapes me at the moment , my mental drawers are in disarray ! )

600 pipers were wounded, 500 bagpipe players died while rallying the troops into battle. They received an extra penny a day to play their pipes. For the most part, the bagpipes skirled out the regimental tunes to get the men moving, tunes such as Highland Laddie, Bluebonnets Over the Border, and the Minstrel Boy. You can’t have been round the battlefields in the Somme and not shed a tear listening to this.

Was born in Australia (to post war immigrant Glaswegian parents) lived back in Scotland [Glasgow] a short while in the early 60's [in my childhood years] and have been back numerous occasions since [plenty of rellies]. To this day, the sound of amassed pipes and drums can quickly have me with a tight lump in my throat and tears running down my face (not ashamed), especially when they play stuff like Amazing Grace, the Black Bear, O Flower o' Scotland, The Dark Isle, etc. Must be in the blood or something. PS: God bless and rest your old man, till The Trumpet sounds, and the piper strikes up. 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 🇭🇲

But you have to admit when you listen to them that they come close. Here's what I mean about the first nation drum circles. It absolutely exemplifies national identity and pride to the degree the drum and pipes do, imo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/qGXadJeMqdKjnKM

Playing the pipes at one time was a sign of defiance towards the English who persecuted and wanted to subdue the Scots. No different then taking a knee nowadays. You have to remember that Black folks have only really been free in this country for about 50 years. All the way up into the mid 80's some black communities lived in terror of groups like the KKK and such groups where often made up of local and state officials. More then any other threat to our freedom The US federal government is the biggest threat against freedom in America. My National pride runs thick, thats why i don't nor will i ever support the Federal government in the form that we know it as today. The federal government has a track record of of doing evil and heinous things not only to foreigners but to its own soldiers and us citizens. My National Pride is strictly reserved for the volunteer soldier and the workers and pioneers that made this country great. All most all Elected officials are complete trash. Look on line for Scottish Events !! They're extremely popular & a real hoot to experience ! The first one i went to , a guy had just tossed the caber and walked into the tent with food & drink in it - this guy was a huge redheaded barrel of a man , likley 320lbs with thighs the size of small trees - people cleared his way - as he walked ' " With Purpose " !! Lots of exhibits & trade crafts , now go find one !! Some do re-enactments of battles also ! Spring & summers .

I grew up in an area of Detroit, Michigan known as historic Corktown. There a lot of history there. From the early settlers in Detroit. I recall St. Patrick's Day and the wonderful bagpipers! My dad, a WW11 vet, had a great send off. Bagpipers were in attendance, along with a 21 gun salute. The Army covered his coffin with our American flag, and presented it to my mother.

Hk Lau, I am American. It is currently fashionable in my country for Liberals to decry "colonial powers" of all stripes. I, for one, do not hold with that fashion. Without glossing over the offenses most colonial powers, including the British, committed, I sincerely believe much of the world was a safer, more humane and just civilization for subjects in many of the former colonies administered by the British.
