Farm Aid

Күн бұрын

Willie Nelson, Arlo Guthrie and Dottie West perform "The City of New Orleans" live at the Farm Aid concert in Champaign, Illinois on September 22, 1985. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.
For more information about Farm Aid, visit: farmaid.org/you...
Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help - what can you do?

For years I called and donated to FARM AID, for several reasons, to help the farmers , especially since I was born and raised on a farm, and another was to hear the recording of one of my very favorite people WILLIE NELSON

Proof of a better time in our history. We showed up for eachother and politics was not part of the deal. The loss of life on country music is equivalent to a barometer off our country's health. We are not emotionally healthy right now.

I really wasnt concerned about Who wrote THIS song, I was making an observation that people OFTEN do not realize how many many songs Willie Nelson HAS WRITTEN. Why are people so Damn negative, instead of finding something positive it it seems to me that people are always looking for a way to make people feel small or stupid, Why didn't Nicholas Petersen just say, Yes Willie is a great song writer, he may not have written this one but he has contributed so many it's hard to keep track of all of them. Would that have been so hard to say. Oh and if you are younger than 45 then I am old enough to be your Mother or even your Grandmother, I could even be a sister, do you like people to say negative things to your family members or friends just because someone is excited and says what they feel!!!! Think think, why can't we just be good to each other.

Fifty and more years ago I used to listen to WSM in the middle of the night while grading papers, and I first heard "The City of New Orleans" there, possibly even a recording of this performance. It is still my favorite music to listen to, no matter who does it. FWIW, my memory is that Dotty West earned a doctorate. I don't know which doctorate, but I suspect it was in some aspect of music. Regardless, she deserves much credit.

Hard song to duet with. Lotta chord changes, course Willie knows EVERY chord on the neck. My very favorite version of this song is 1973 or 1974 I think it was, Johnny Cash on Hee Haw. Bob Wooten's guitar made the song on that performance.

Don't forget it was Ronald Reagan and "trickle down" that made these concerts necessary. At the same time industries were being sold to China and "investors" were pocketing the pension investment funds, leaving retirees without pensions they'd worked for. Sadly, it was all legal.

Just an Fyi to people who might not understand: Arlo sings this song in F#. Willie sings it in D, a full 4 steps lower than what Arlo is used to doing. Still not too bad, overall ;-)
