Oh my gosh, I thought the Ballentine stuff was so emotional, the most emotional scene in the show. It's interesting how different scenes play differently for different people. Agree with a lot of your points. Adding a few extra moments here and though would have improved a lot of the emotional beats.

First of all, I think Kit's haircut will suit you well. I think the show had low IMDB rating because it was victimized by review bombing of people who think it is "too woke". I agree the show is not perfect. There were some cringey dialogues and i really hate that a lot of the scenes were too dark that it was so hard to see what's happening. There were also some pacing problems which i am kind of used to now. Specially with streaming shows that are limited to 8-10 episodes. With Kit and Jade, I was not bothered with the 1st episode kiss. I think Kit's motivation was the thought of not seeing Jade again. As they go through the adventure, they were forced to face the consequence. Therefore, the initial reaction of denial etc. I also agree that Jade has a lot more potential. I hope they give her more chance to grow as a character on the next season (#renewWillow). All in all., the show is not perfect but i loved it and hope that they renew it.

Great way to dissect everything! This show is now my comfort show too. I am so happy for the queer representation especially on a Disney show. I think the world they built and the main characters on the quest are so enjoyable and likeable. I do believe as well that the pacing could have been improved and needing more flashbacks or context especially when the emotional scene happened between Jade and Ballantine. I found too that Kit is the more interesting character because you see her grow and understand why she is that way after the first few episodes and she slowly redeems herself as the series goes on. I think Jade was not developed as much because they only have 8 episodes this season and needed to go through the main plot, introduce the background history from the movie and do an overall introduction of all the new characters. I hope Disney will renew the show for a season 2 and 3 so we can see more of Kit and Jade relationship and development from Jade.

I'm so glad someone else thought Jade was going to be Elora (I thought it was just me being an idiot). The biggest issue with the series was that they skimmed over so much and focused on the wrong thing, resulting in me being straight-up confused about what was happening and why. It was almost as though the writers thought that the audience could read their minds and guess their intentions (like I honestly didn't even realise that Ballantine was like a father figure to Jade until he died and even then, it was used as just a plot point to move the story forward instead of something to develop Jade's character). The fact that even by the end of the series, Elora's only redeeming quality was her and Kit's relationship - she isn't a well-written character at all and for the "hero" of the story, I had no feelings towards her, positive or negative. She was just kind of there. Great first video! I teach Film and would be super happy if any of my students produced something like this!

Yes yes!! Eloras superior attitude that she formed was just completely forced and uncalled for given how little her character really did. And wow! What a compliment! Super cool that you’re a film teacher

Great video! I agree with most of the things you've said, but I think Elora is a good character, she's just not like the classic heroin always perfect, doing everything well from the start. And she goes on adventure to rescue Airk, who she thinks she loves, but we see that she's changed, she's attached to what she believed was true (her love for Airk) but it is not anymore. And we can notice that in one of the fight scene with Willow, when he asked her why she loves Airk to understand her motivation and her emotions, but she didn't answer right away. Therefore, in that scene with Kit (my favorite) she's not crying for Airk, but because she knew she had to die facing the Crone, especially after Willow's confirmation, and she was so afraid she couldn't go any further, she couldn't do what she had to, because I think she already knew she had to jump. So Kit, who knew too, helped her, she made her feel less alone, she gave her the strength to continue, and they jump together. And yes, the show is not perfect, but the only thing that bothered me a bit was Jade's development, since she doesn't have one. The other things you mentioned are minor to me. To conclude, Willow gave his name for the show, Elora is the heroin, but the real protagonist is Kit!

Kit and Jade's relationship is definitely underdeveloped in the beginning. I'm not bothered by the kiss in the first scene as that was Kit's way of saying goodbye and not wanting to have anything undone before she did. They later had to deal with the consequences, and if this wasn't focused around Elora and Willow, they probably would have gotten those moments they desperately needed to make the relationship develop more naturally (I'm sure some scenes were cut for time that I'd love to see more). Kit's mood swings, which hugely impacted them and their development were also quite immature and stagnated progress. I would have loved to see more of Jade and her development alone as well. I was hoping to see Jade being Elora in the beginning,, mostly cuz badass sword-fighting woman with magic powers is so much more interesting than annoying kitchen-maid who's bad with her magic powers(don't even get me started on the cringeyness of the last episode with her powers). If Jade and Ballentine had one talk at the beginning of the quest or at the dinner, her having to kill him would have been so much more powerful(especially if she didn't regain full control and composure so quickly after). I think the reason Jade wasn't so sceptical at the Bone Reavers was that she was finally not seen as the help but got an answer to a question she had asked herself for a long time; where do I come from. She knew it was short lived and had to enjoy it while she could. And considering she has never truly relaxed, cuz being a knight and always having to look out for others usually does that to a person, she felt like she had earned a day of carefreeness, and then quickly regretted when Kit was taken from her after her confession. If we get a season 2, I hope Jade has more of a focal point, considering season 1 left with major future conflicts to resolve and among them where Jade will end up; Tir Asleen, Wildwood with the Bone Reapers, Shining Legion(knight-training) or taking off on adventures with Kit. Queer stories usually aren't that lucky tho

I also thought Jade was going to be Elora, I am kind of glad that they made it not obvious though because A looking back at it, that makes more sense, and B, it adds an interesting factor.
