@Young Boss TV But why would you want that ? They don't make an inverter like that , and I'm guessing its because there's really no sensible reason to do so. But If you really want two battery banks , You could simply buy a Blue sea e-series battery switch ! That will give you the option to switch from battery bank 1 or bank 2 , And you can even switch to battery bank 1 and bank 2 at the same time . I have these switches in my system , But not for that configuration . There a heavy duty switch , and there $60 bucks a piece ! Hope this helps.

It's great that Mr. Prowse reviewed this unit. I have been keeping my eye out for a unit in this price point range. But, I would never buy it because of the phone app. I recently got a cooking thermometer which had an app that required an account, permissions to everything on my phone and my location. I know this is the direction many manufacturers are going but I will never buy another item which requires an app that needs intrusive access to my phone, location, and home network.

How can you deny Allah, when you were dead and He gave you life, then He will put you to death, then He will bring you to life, then to Him you will be returned? 29. It is He who created for you everything on earth, then turned to the heaven, and made them seven heavens. And He is aware of all things. 30. When your Lord said to the angels, “I am placing a successor on earth.” They said, “Will You place in it someone who will cause corruption in it and shed blood, while we declare Your praises and sanctify You?” He said, “I know what you do not know.” 31. And He taught Adam the names, all of them; then he presented them to the angels, and said, “Tell Me the names of these, if you are sincere.” 32. They said, “Glory be to You! We have no knowledge except what You have taught us. It is you who are the Knowledgeable, the Wise.” 33. He said, “O Adam, tell them their names.” And when he told them their names, He said, “Did I not tell you that I know the secrets of the heavens and the earth, and that I know what you reveal and what you conceal?” 34. And We said to the angels, “Bow down to Adam.” They bowed down, except for Satan. He refused, was arrogant, and was one of the disbelievers. 35. We said, “O Adam, inhabit the Garden, you and your spouse, and eat from it freely as you please, but do not approach this tree, lest you become wrongdoers.” 36. But Satan caused them to slip from it, and caused them to depart the state they were in. We said, “Go down, some of you enemies of one another. And you will have residence on earth, and enjoyment for a while.” 37. Then Adam received words from his Lord, so He relented towards him. He is the Relenting, the Merciful. 38. We said, “Go down from it, all of you. Yet whenever guidance comes to you from Me, then whoever follows My guidance-they have nothing to fear, nor shall they grieve. 39. But as for those who disbelieve and reject Our signs-these are the inmates of the Fire-wherein they will remain forever.” 40. O Children of Israel! Remember My blessings which I bestowed upon you, and fulfill your pledge to Me, and I will fulfill My pledge to you, and fear Me. 41. And believe in what I revealed, confirming what is with you; and do not be the first to deny it; and do not exchange My revelations for a small price; and be conscious of Me. 42. And do not mix truth with falsehood, and do not conceal the truth while you know. 43. And attend to your prayers, and practice regular charity, and kneel with those who kneel. 46. And before that, the people of Noah. They were immoral people. 47. We constructed the universe with power, and We are expanding it. 48. And the earth-We spread it out-How well We prepared it! 49. We created all things in pairs, so that you may reflect and ponder. 50. “So flee towards Allah. I am to you from Him a clear warner.” 51. “And do not set up any other god with Allah. I am to you from Him a clear warner.” 52. Likewise, no messenger came to those before them, but they said, “A sorcerer or a madman.” 53. Did they recommend it to one another? In fact, they are rebellious people. 54. So turn away from them; you are not to blame. 55. And remind, for the reminder benefits the believers. 56. I did not create the jinn and the humans except to worship Me. 57. I need no livelihood from them, nor do I need them to feed Me. 58. Allah is the Provider, the One with Power, the Strong. 59. Those who do wrong will have their turn, like the turn of their counterparts, so let them not rush Me. 60. So woe to those who disbelieve because of that Day of theirs which they are promised. 35. Or were they created out of nothing? Or are they the creators? 36. Or did they create the heavens and the earth? In fact, they are not certain. Read The Quran

Will Prowse hits it out of the ballpark as usual! I started my solar adventures as a know nothing..... Thanks to will, I installed my modest solar system myself complete with shunt and monitor. 600w on the roof and 2 strings of 200w each on the ground in the form of easy-to-stow (caution) flexible (freestanding frame) panels. These are deployed only on extremely coudy consecutive days. All charging 3-100ah l-ions. We are in our RV for ten months a year for the last ten years. Our batts rarely drop below 80%. We want for nothing. Ice maker, micro, 4-5 hours of tv, etc. No AC however..... We adjust for temperature by location. Been in AZ all winter. Love life! Heading to Oregon (Mt Hood area)for the summer. Our home is in St George Utah. Thanks Will!

I'm a technical writer, so I think almost everything should come with a usable user manual. Something like a PDF file that you can download works, but it's nice to have printed documentation right there. Of course more documentation keeps tech writers employed, so I have some bias on this subject. :)
@livingitup9647
@livingitup9647 2 жыл бұрын
Personally, I think we need technical writers MORE than EVER... because technology is NOT getting simpler or more user-friendly. Instead, it's sucking up more of our limited time trying to make it all work, and often being forced to try and figure it out on our own, often without adequate documentation to help with troubleshooting. Now, if only the manufacturers would take some responsibility for increasingly and blithely foisting their technical glitches onto the poor consumers of their products -- and at the very least, provide more and better documentation with their products -- then technical writers would be in even greater demand. IMHO 😒

I read more technical writings for work than any other literature. A good technical document can make a job easy while a bad one is just wasted paper. I wish more technical manuals copied automotive service manuals.

@J Bennett My personal preference will always be paper manuals :) It's so much nicer to have a folder/clipboard mounted to something, and have full size sheets to look at. In the case of a permanent installation, like a large battery bank, you can also laminate them, to make them last longer. Nothing worse than scrolling through pages on your phone, looking at a tiny screen. It's even more frustrating, when you are working on a car, and your hands are covered in grease. You either have to keep cleaning them over and over, or you have to wear and waste a lot of disposable gloves. When it comes to paper manuals, I don't care about getting grease on the individual pages, so long as it doesn't obscure the text and pictures.

@@arthurhammeke8296 Yes, stacking two for 240v was mentioned in the video. Also the complication of a hot ground when doing so. (Some internal screw to be removed.) Until a specific video of that configuration gets posted, and how to get both 120v and 240v out of that system is explained, I personally would not attempt to DIY it. But yes, for the cost of an additional unit, I'd go for it if feasible to DIY. Or would also perhaps hire a pro to insure safety. Not sure if a regular residential electrician would know the particulars of such an install. Maybe need a solar specialist. I figured that I would need 5 -300W panels. I followed your link and it looks like I would need two EG4 units and now it looks like the two EG4-All in one will work. Will, an important issue not explained in the manual. This inverter does not register the output of the solar panels, it only registers what it decides to draw from them. I was pulling my hair out because it appeared my system was woefully underperforming on sunny days and I could not establish even a rough correlation between light intensity and solar panel array output. I didn't want to put too big a load and draw down my AGM battery bank until the system performed better and the inverter would not draw (or display) what was available until I increase the load ( a Catch 22). I eventually discovered how this thing worked and am now happy. I'm new to this so I don't know if all the controller/inverters work this way, but a simple explanation in the manual would have saved hours of unnecessary trouble-shooting!

As always, nice review and checkout Will. Seems like a good low cost inverter (or even battery charger) for the price. Huge fail on the neutral / ground bond for connecting 2 of these in series for split phase 120/240V. Like Signature Solar's prior 'US' Growatt, they need to fix this. Unsafe as supplied if connected in series, and with no grounding hookup in the documentation, an extra additional fail.

FYI, I have that Growatt and the wifi dongle / app is worse than this EG4 from what I can tell in this video. Also, an interesting parameter that many don't talk about is the solar input voltage cuttoff. The charger will turn off after a while if there is no light, which saves about 30W (50%) of the total idle consumption. But there is no way to adjust the cuttoff and I have found that even parking under a street light will cause the charger to remain on throughout the night, therefore wasting ~300Wh throughout the night. I am fixing this by adding additional hardware to cuttoff the solar input when the voltage is low. (please let me know if I'm missing something and if you'd recommend another way)

How is the growatt app worse? Please describe. Thanks!
@linkpatrick
@linkpatrick 2 жыл бұрын
@@gtbrown001 TLDR: The growatt uses an app called ShinePhone that feels outsourced and distanced from the engineers that made the Growatt inverter. First, I wrote that the dongle / app is worse. The experience I had setting it up was not good. Instruction was generally hard to find, especially for the PC app. Also, there's 2 wifi dongles to add to confusion. Second, the app changed a while back so that it is now ShinePhone, so I had to set things up again. Third, it requires constant internet access for data logging (which is probably the same for the EG4). Fourth, I can see that Will had so many options to monitor on the app, that is not the case the ShinePhone app.

Your comments about the idle wattage and the solar low voltage are amazing, I didn’t know that was a thing (cutting off the MPPT charger and saving idle consumption with low PV voltage). Do you know of any other ways to minimize this idle consumption? The 1.2+ kWh per day might actually be the largest drain on my battery bank and I’d like to avoid addressing that by just buying more batteries.
@linkpatrick
@linkpatrick 2 жыл бұрын
@@bmxican1023 Ya, I thought it was the right move to buy a large all-in-one like to this so that I could power anything, but the idle consumption ended up being a bigger deal than I anticipated. To make matters worse, I can't use the eco mode on the growatt because the wattage threshold to turn on (from eco-mode) is (I think) ~100W, and my fridge only pulls 90W (500W for about 0.5 seconds at startup. which makes an LED on the growatt come on, but then it turns off, lol.) So what I've done is I bought a smaller 500W inverter to run my AC fridge and other small AC loads, and I keep the Growatt output toggled off unless I'm gonna cook etc (which, in combination with the solar input toggle, makes the idle consumption at night 0W). Since the 500W inverter is smaller, I can run it on eco mode, so it consumes 2W while idle (and, bonus, it's DC-AC efficiency is better for running my fridge).

This inverter has 94% efficiency, so it will use 180 watts for its operation at full load continuously, and according to this video, the inverter uses 60 watts in standby, therefore one needs to keep the inverter efficiency in mind when designing a system. I am trying to say that you will have even more loses with more load, up to 180 watts (full load 3000watts ÷ 100 x 94%) because of the inverter itself. Ps. 94% efficiency is good.

Now that I have two MPP 6048 and two sever rack batteries it is no problem starting the pump. 6 Amps at 120 is 720 watts (about a Hp) and one server rack battery is about 50v x 100 amps for a total of 5,000 watts peak output. so you will still have a lot of capacity left - the thing to watch is starting motors which always take more amps starting than running.

My only concern is the power quality when the hybrid engine is running (ie: whether the hybrid inverter charges by pulses and would that affect the solar inverter). There's one company that charges $3500 for a ready to go solution but I'd like to see an 'open source' plan with off the shelf parts without the $2500 profit margin that company is charging.

There's a ~800W (continuous) limitation with the 200VDC to 12VDC inverter. I'm talking using a solar inverter that works with the 200VDC range of the much larger traction/drive battery, completely bypassing the 200VDC-to-12VDC inverter and it's 1kw limitation. There's an off-the-shelf 5kv kit (PlugOutPower) that taps directly to the traction/drive battery so there is no 80A@12V limitation. But it costs $2600 and $2000 is pure profit for that company. The traction/drive battery can deliver a continuous 40A at 200V to the electric drive motors, or 8kw. A solar inverter can take this 8kw and turn it into 120VAC at 60A. The DC-DC inverter to 12V can handle about 80A continuous 100A peak at 12V. (call it 1kw) I'd prefer a more conservative 3kw inverter so the ICE doesn't have to run as often to recharge the drive battery. 99.9% of all the youtube's using a prius as a "generator" are simpletons using the wimpy 1kw output of the 12VDC inverter and just connecting a 12V cigarette lighter inverter to the accessory battery and keeping the ignition on.... anyone can do that and it's not impressive.

Hey Will - Thanks for the videos! Can this unit switch from Utility to Battery fast enough to function like a UPS? I remember your older video in the RV when you tested this with another inverter but I wonder if this unit (and maybe a GroWatt) could also provide the same function? I see they have a setting in the manual that allows you to set utility as the main power source under setting 01 - Utility Priority. I would love to see a video testing that as I just ordered my first batteries from batteryhookup using your code (thanks!) to build my own pack. I am going to be getting panels soon so I wanted to see if I could just skip the charger and go straight to the inverter. My plan is to use these batteries in place of my lead acid UPS batteries for now as the internal charger failed in the rackmount UPS. If you already know if this is possible then feel free to respond, no need for a video :)

Allah, there is no god but He, the Living, the Eternal. There is nothing like Him. He is the Hearing, the Seeing. 1. In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. 2. It is He who sent His Messenger with the guidance and the religion of truth, to make it prevail over all religions. Allah suffices as Witness. 29. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. Those with him are stern against the disbelievers, yet compassionate amongst themselves. You see them kneeling, prostrating, seeking blessings from Allah and approval. Their marks are on their faces from the effects of prostration. Such is their description in the Torah, and their description in the Gospel: like a plant that sprouts, becomes strong, grows thick, and rests on its stem, impressing the farmers. Through them He enrages the disbelievers. Allah has promised those among them who believe and do good deeds forgiveness and a great reward. In the name of Allah, the Gracious, the Merciful. 1. Abundance distracts you. 2. Until you visit the graveyards. 3. Indeed, you will know. 4. Certainly, you will know. 5. If you knew with knowledge of certainty. 6. You would see the Inferno. 7. Then you will see it with the eye of certainty. 8. Then, on that Day, you will be questioned about the Bliss. 28.

I installed a 5500W powmr inverter like this one on my fathers farm we got it from ebay for 600€ (630$) but its the version that doesnt support parallel operation its literaly the exact same layout, they are probably prodused in the same factory heck, even the manual is the exact same, the powmr came in a much smaller size though very decent inverter and with no issues untill now only one string of ~11A pvs is installed the limit is about 18A so I think using 2 lower amperage stings will be more ideal the thing that impressed me the most is the fact that it bypasses to the grid instantly if it gets overloaded or if DC power is not enough to run the inverter

That seems like a nice little unit :) The battery that you showed is nice too. I was thinking of going with those $500 24v 2.56Kwh pre-assembled battery packs that they sell (which you featured in one of your previous videos,) but these server rack batteries really are handy. They are more expensive than the aforementioned packs, but not by a ton. 10Kwh from 2 of these server rack batteries would be $3000 + tax. You can get 10Kwh from 4 of the DIY batteries that they sell, for a total of $2000 + tax. But, you have to add a $100 BMS to each one, so that's another $400 right there. Plus, you have to add a circuit breaker to each one, and some wiring. You will also not have the capability for the units to communicate with each other, which is nice.
