A damascus bench scraper is a great idea. They are very commonly used tools, they have a ton of real estate to show off a cool pattern, and I don't think there are many other people making them. Also while the finishing process seems to be a bit tough, mass producing the blanks could be really easy. You just make a great honking big rectangular billet with the pattern on the end, then cut slices on the band saw. You could probably surface grind about 10 of them at a time on your surface grinder, and heat treat quite a few of them at once in the Paragon if you make some sort of tray to stand them up in. If you pre-cut some wooden handle scales, assembly could be pretty easy. The real question will be how to get the surface finish you want without hand-sanding.

Will, you might also consider marketing those to potters as well. I know that they use scrapers to clean the bats that they throw ceramic items on, and I've heard several here on YT complain about not being able to find good quality scrapers for cleaning their throwing equipment. Many of them try and make do with flat-top grill scrapers. But they're not ideal because of the handle geometry.

Great bench scraper! I would be interested. A bit of experience, make sure the handle material you choose is heat resistant, I always seem to melt the cheep plastic ones. Also, make sure the handle to palm contact area is smooth and comfortable so people can use it to scrape down flat grills. You usually have to push hard. I will keep my eye on the site if you make them.

In engineering, when you want to get a perfect level finish on a flat surface (steel motorcycle clutch plates, cylinder heads), one way is to stick a piece of wet and dry to a granite slab or piece of plate glass (in my youth, we used to steal a piece of plate glass from an old UK telephone box which has super high quality plate glass in the bottom windows) with either water or some spray mount then work the piece side to side on it, swapping orientation as you work up the grits to check the scratches are gone. Might not work so well if there's a bevel part way up though.

My first thought was that the seam where handle scale meets the blade might be annoying to clean after it gets dirty. Making the handle integral to the blade by doing something similar to the smash tray, could be a cool way to get rid of any seams and cracks that can collect crud

I've got almost as many bech scrapers as I do have knives, I'd like to see damascus handles that slide over the tops of my plastic scrapers, similar size of my carpenters pencils with a channel either cut or folded that can be slid along the scrapers top.only needs to be a couple of lengths and magnetised would be handy.

I have a bench scraper and I rarely use it, it’s just a cheap one, I would love to have one that is nice and custom like that I think that I’d use it more. If you were to make and sell them I think it would be a good option to be able to just have the blade of it finished so some people like myself could make their own handle for it in whatever kind of material they want and it would be cheaper being unfinished
