The way this movie strikes me as two layers of Horror/Slasher: The Animatronics for the College guys, and then Cage for the Animatronics. And just like a slasher villain, Cage just kind of vibes on his own rhythm for a story rather than being in constant stalk-and-kill mode.

Apart from the generic teen stuff, and silly twist with the cops I gotta say The movie really delivers on the idea of nick going against this blasted animatronics! Their lower budget likely meant they’d rely more on practical effect anyway which really made it more engaging. You’d think that whole break thing would get old but honestly its hilarious how intently he follows the orders he was given, like nicks more of a machine than the animatronics.

This movie was nuts. Yeah it is a B movie with a straight forward story with some gore. But my wife said it best: Leave your brain on standby and you can have a fun time. That sums it up. Cage shoulders the movie easily without speaking. But his acting does the job, he etablishes a routine and after he saw some shit he just tries to hold his routine. I liked the movie, not good not bad. Just entertainment.
@BackyardPix
@BackyardPix 3 жыл бұрын
There's pretty much zero actual gore in the film. And the fight scenes between Cage and the "animatronics" (obviously people in cheap, shitty suits...) are done with extreme, shaky close-ups and choppy editing. It's so poorly done. The Banana Splits Movie was bad, but that atleast had some real gore effects and grizzly death scenes. I'm actually surprised this movie wasn't rated PG-13. It even had a fully clothed "sex scene", for god's sake. So damn lame. Haha.

You know, in all honesty I've watched alot of reviews on Willy's Wonderland... and I think Decker is the first one to 'get it'. Yeah its a FNAF ripoff, yes it is shameless, yes it doesn't have a budget, it is cheap and cheaply made. The plot is simple and not to hard to follow and it is corny. But people use these thing's to give it a bad review. Or write it off as a crappy movie. The movie is.... fun. Why can't movies just be fun anymore. It's got a great hook and it has fun with the plot, it leans into it, it knows what the viewer wants and gives them that. Not every movie has to have politics shoved into it, or be some great epic, some can just be fun. Evil Dead, the postal games, just... pure fun. To me thats what this movie is... its just fun and it doesn't have to be anything more than that. I like Willy's Wonderland.

What about Jay freakin Bauman, trash cinema afficianado. He said it best: it just lacks the energy and creativity a B movie like this should have for it's kills. Not really, Gary Stu implies the guy is perfect or flawless, but he clearly isn't. He gets hurt multiple times, almost dies even, he fails to save everyone save one person, and he isn't able to get out of the situation he's in without fighting. Plus him kicking ass makes sense, the dog tags in the car imply he's likely a former soldier, hence why he knows how to fight so viciously.

I just love how chill Nick Cage is during his ordeal. I think it would've been even better if the movie were about the evil animatronics becoming afraid of this guy for not reacting to them like their past victims and destroying them as though they were nothing. DO sort of a reverse of 5 nights at Freddy's, wherein the underpaid employee is in the role of the unstoppable monster and the animatronics who were trying to kill him for sick fun are now trying to kill him out of survival.

In fairness to the lighter, not everyone has one. Yeah if you smoke you would, but again that is not as common as it was in the 1990s or 2000s. Now I am just wondering how you would start a fire with a vap pen.

I like the idea that the animatronics and Nick have a silent agreement. They stay on the stage and don't cause trouble, they live. They break that agreement, they die. That's why he doesn't let her kill one when they are still on stage. It also fits that Nick's character is a stickler about rules and cleanliness as we see in the intro that he has a pair of dogtags on his mirror, so maybe he's ex military? And why he takes his breaks is because he was told to by Tex so its just one of the silent rules to the place.

I like the WMG theory from TVtropes, that the Janitor is Brownie 'He's bound by (verbal) contracts that he follows to the letter, lives off of sugar drinks (soda instead of the traditional honey), never speaks, and is preternaturally good at cleaning.'

Small town with a dark secret always feels weird when the monsters in question could be taken out by an angry mob with shot guns, Not like these were shapeshifting ethereal nightmare beasts of the forest demanding sacrifice to bless the crops and allow the town to exist on their foggy lands.

funny how Godzilla can be so mainstream and well known and win at the box office, yet very few have actually seen the original Japanese movies, one of those things that is so mainstream, yet also isn't.. they know the pop culture character, but not the movies

I am not sure if it was said already, but people assume, since Nick plays a ex military person, that the reason why he was suddenly getting his ass beat by willy is because of the explosions going off, with the distortion we are maybe seeing it in Cage's perspective, dealing with some sort of shell-shock trauma that allows willy to get the upper hand.

I don't know if it's actually what was planned. But if you look at this movie through the lens of the janitor being a child who was super traumatized, due to being a survivor of that place, a lot of his behavior makes sense. And for this movie it would be him effectively going there to deal with the trauma.
