There is no way that explosion was caused by 'stored' ammunition or missiles. Anyone who has seen a ammunition depo know that its split into multiple units each protected by heavily reinforced outer and inner walls and blast proof doors, and designed to take bomb or missile damage. Multiple strikes on a single unit might be able to break through those walls and ignite the contents, but the individual storage units are spread apart so that if one unit goes up it should not affect units nearby. I suspect its a case that ammunition or weapons were stored above ground and possibly some blast door were left open. Even if this is the case I would expect most of the ammunition stored in this facility to have survived intact. The explosion looks seriously impressive on video but if most of the ammunition or missile stored had gone off we would be looking a craters and everything for hundreds of metres around being totally levelled. According to many reports the Russians are using up to 10,000 artillery shells and bombs A DAY (at least 5x more than the Ukrainians). A facility like that would barely be capable of holding a few weeks worth. The Russians have literally hundreds of these weapons stores. Whatever it was a great PR coup for the Ukrainians but it will make little or no difference to the collapse of the Ukrainian front lines.

Having thought about this a little more I am now convinced that if there was not ammunition stored outside in this facility then this was a STORMSHADOW attack. Why you might ask? Well its how the Stormshadow missile works. The Stormshadow was specifically designed to hit hardened stationary targets. It does this by having a specially designed double warhead. The first breaks open a hardened target of between 2 and 4 metres of concrete (bunkers, missile silos, ammunition storage facilities), which then allows the second warred to penetrate through to the target. If you were wondering how drones could blow their way through many feet of reinforced concrete and somehow blow up this ammunition storage facility then stop wondering. This WAS NOT a drone attack. There are no drones that can penetrate multiple reinforced walls or a facility that could withstand a conventional bomb attack. I' convinced this was a storm shadow attack, and probably why Biden was so angry at that meeting yesterday

If you look at a map it seems more likely it was launched from states bordering that region which will mean nato territory was used to launch it.

No chance Lativa otherwise it would of been a swarm of drones and the air defence would of atleast picked it up Not a chance from Ukraine Defintely Brit’s or cia from Latvia

Russia has proven to lack the ability to control airspace over its own territory, so flying drones that far in to Russia from Ukraine is likely And if it was from nato territory, there is no escalation Russia can do that wouldn’t make it worse for them

Russian forces have conducted a strike on Ukraine’s key military communications facility, as well as a number of other high-priority targets, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has said. In a statement on Thursday, the ministry said that Russian warplanes, drones, missiles and artillery had successfully “hit the main center of special radio communications of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Armed Forces of Ukraine,” plus critical airfield infrastructure facilities.

There is the old section with open air ammo storage and the new section with bunkers. The old section took the brunt of the damage as well as two(?) bunkers in the new section. Just my guess, Tochka missiles(retired) blew up with some secondary loss. IMHO the only way this helps Ukraine is if Russia starts running out of Iskander missiles.

The large blast is deceptive, let's say the Ukies, or whoever, got 2-3 train wagons full of GRAD rockets that were just delivered or ready to be shipped out, that would account for a massive firework but wouldn't put a big dent in the depot itself as the other 90-95% of ammo is safely stored underground. So all in all it's your usual Ukie "win" looks cool but has little lasting influence on the frontlines.

afaik, citizens of Toropets were allowed to return home by evening, that means sappers managed to find all munitions that went flying all around. Meaning there was not so much to find. Meanwhile when artillery storages burned in central russia few years ago, 20+ km area was blocked for a week.

There is no victory plan, and if there was the US and UK would have seen it already. Those missile the Ukrainians want to use to strike inside Russia are Nuclear capable (a tactical nuclear warhead can be used). There is absolutely no way Russia will accept their use under any circumstances. How do the Russian differentiate a missile that is carrying a conventional warhead and one that is carrying a tactical nuke? They cant, so will assume the worst, just as any other nuclear military power would, including the US, French and UK. If there really was a victory plan it would have to involve nuclear weapons as that only way to defeat a country which possesses nuclear weapons. After all that is the main premiss of Nuclear Deterrent, you cant defeat me as I have Nukes, you can only defeat me by using nukes, but in turn I will destroy you. This is just another PR stunt by Zelensky to buy time. Problem for Zelensky is now the Russians will believe that he would be willing to escalate this war to the maximum which will mean any offering of peace or negotiations by him would automatically have be viewed with extreme scepticism making it harder not easier for the Ukrainians to end this war.

It gets me how they would have got the drones to penetrant the ammo storage bunkers, my first thought was it a possible strike from within latvian boader using a lot of stand of war heads like storm shadow or German taurus its got 250 range and its a 2 stage penetrative war head designed specifically for this type of target. But would they risk using them that deep into russia especially when its all such a hot topic about using them deep in country i just don't know... time will tell because russia will be finding spent component's to whatever weapon was used before long and plastering it all over news if it turns out thats what was used
