Hooray! That's my engine block! After watching your work on the lock and stitch pins, I'm sure glad I brought the block to you. Seeing you go around corners with those pins was an eye-opener. I'm glad it seems to be going well. I'd love to see any more work you do on this particular block, but of course I'm biased. Awesome videos, thanks alot!

Good to hear from you Jack. KZbin keeps sending me notices that my videos are not doing good. They say "your audience has low interest in this topic". One of these days I will put something out that more people like, but for now I will continue to put videos out on the things I do and hopefully my dedicated followers enjoy them. Thanks for letting me know you enjoy the content I put out. Brian

Awesome work !!!! About to work on a 59flathead 8 with some cracks .... Want to metal stitch myself ..I believe I have one crack in a bore as well ..being a backyard diyer .....and flatheads not making that much compression to run .....could I sticch a cylinder then use a stone hone on my drill to get it round then install my piston again ??? This engine is just going in a model a backyard built hotrod ...nothing fancy and won't see too many run time hours
@metalshaperJeep3 жыл бұрын
If you are VERY careful and the crack does not go too far down into the cylinder you may be able to clean it up enough to install your piston again. Take your time and be careful in the bore so you don't mess it up and your rings won't seal.
@molinelligarage10043 жыл бұрын
@@metalshaperJeep thanks for the reply I appreciate that ...I'll totally take my time ! I heard that you can't sleeve after stitching cause it will cause the crack to spread ?? Is that true , or is it still safe to sleeve after ?

What's the sealant you use on the threads ?.
@metalshaperJeep4 жыл бұрын
It is an anerobic sealant that is supplies by the people who sell me the stitching pins. It is like no other sealant I have used and works great. I have no idea what is in the bottle but know it works.

I didn't know all those cracks were repairable. I would like to see how you fix the leaky distributor passage leaks. mine was leaking and I suspect my J B weld repair is NOT what you would do. ( so far after 2700 mi its still is leak free though ) thanks for the great details.

Brian, I’m about ready to throw my gear pullers across the garage. I’m attempting to remove the camshaft gear on my 4-134 f-head and my pullers keep slipping. I cannot find a video actually showing this nylon gear being removed. Do you have one?
@metalshaperJeep4 жыл бұрын
I don't have a video on that but good idea for one. They are removed buy putting a 2 jaw puller into the holes of the gear with the hook of the puller facing outward. Then it is pulled off. Without the correct puller it can slip. Another way is to rotate the cam so you can remove the cam retainer plate bolts. Then once the bolts are out you can pull the entire cam and gear out of the engine. Put the cam in a press, support the gear so it does not break and press the cam out. I always do it that way, faster and easier than setting up a puller. I install the same way, press the gear on the cam, don't forget to put the spacer and retainer on first. Then install in the engine as a unit.

Thanks. I’ll get back to it in a few days. I’m too hot and frustrated to look at it again tonight.

Brian, Thank you for another informative video. I am currently rebuilding a 134 L head from a 1941 Willys pickup model 441. When I was scraping the gunk off the block I found that the block was likely frozen at one time which cracked it on the distributor side in the lower portion of the water jacket. The block had been V grooved and epoxy was used. Can cracks in this area of these engines be successfully repaired with metal stitching. The block is number matching to the truck so I would like to save it.
@metalshaperJeep4 жыл бұрын
yes it can be fixed with metal stitching. That is a very common area to crack and I have successfully fixed many blocks like yours. I would recommend cleaning until you get all the epoxy out, then clean it again. Make sure you have clean, bright metal. Make the repair , then pressure check the block. I have videos out there on how to pressure test blocks so you may want to look them over as well. 15 pounds or a bit more and check for leaks. If everything is good continue on with your rebuild. Brian
@cabotbroughton74584 жыл бұрын
@@metalshaperJeep thank you for the super quick reply. I had the block hot tanked there are still a few traces of epoxy to pick out and then will clean again. I emailed locknstitch with pictures and material thickness measurements to make sure which pins will work with the previously ground V / U grooves. I’ll definitely be watching your pressure test video. I noticed the area that has cracked bulged i my block do you leave the bulge.
