Friend of mine had a late 40's Willys ,in the 70's snow plow- no power angle, no heater, canvas top and doors. he drove it to work at the railroad in Lorain Ohio and plowed drives. Tough old guy taught me alot. Thanks Joe! ... Zane don't be afraid to get grease under your fingernails, its not a crime to have dirty hands. and never stop learning! Back before my dad passed away and was able to work we had a auto electric shop at our house you can take an old 4 1/2 ford starter and use the band on it wrap duct tape around it then put the band on ..pinto's use a 4 in dia starter and the bigger one is 4 1/2 dia coil housing its the same as the snap band except it has a cap screw and a square nut it will work just the same beside the bolt and screw the only difference is an indention where the pull down shoe and the battery post

Hi I just watched your whole playlist on your Willy’s and I must say your going in a good direction, I’ve got three of those Cj2a’s and I just do the same thing you do find them all worn out and left outside and fix them up and get them running, the one I’m currently working on reminds me a lot like yours except my engine was seized, nothing some atf and mystery oil didn’t fix though now she’s purring like a kitten keep at it all you need is fuel spark and air it’ll fire up. I look forward to some more videos

I hope you put the plastic back under that bolt to not ground the positive for the starter to the frame of the starter. That could really be bad. The box you took off the inner fender is a voltage regulator for a generator that was probably on as original equipment. The white block you took off the firewall is a dropping resistor for the coil. It got bypassed while starting to give 12V to the coil and then 6V while running. Todays coils are built to run on 12V continually. A little research would do you good before tearing things out. Keep learning and keep sharing.

Is this the end of the Willys episodes. As you took out the insulator for positive cable. Looks like you grounded the positive cable to the starter case. What happened when you gave it some power?
@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
There was a rubber washer in between the case and the cable. 🙂👍 It spins over but did not fire 😕 have to do a bit more wiring work to it. This is the last video for now. This winter it's going back in the garage 👍

@@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE These engines are getting rare. Getting them barking to only have a quick break down, might not be a good Idea. Did you turn the engine over by hand? I might have missed that part. If you can get that starter motor turning the engine. I suggest you complete a compression test. It will show if the valves are sticking or indicate other problems. Testing mine ended with zero compression. You can also test for spark at the coil by opening and closing the points manually.
@HODGEPODGEDODGEGARAGE4 жыл бұрын
