"I'm not a monster! ...Am I?" Just hits me every time. Most villains who tell themselves they're doing what is right, that their actions are justified, don't have the self-awareness to even consider that they might be in the wrong. It shows a surprising level of maturity to even ask that question: Am I actually as good a person as I think I am? And how are my actions perceived by other people.

Ehhhh Stick probably knows how to mask that kind of thing since his abilities are like Matt's. But I do think Stick killed the kid though, he has no reason to lie to Matt about it.
@Frostbite08
@Frostbite08 Жыл бұрын
@@Eaglelioncourt I have a thought about that. Some people disagree, and that's fine with me. But I think when Stick calls the Black Sky "it", he sincerely doesn't think of him as a person, but as a weapon. So when he says "I will not kill anyone", he means it, in a really screwed up way. There's more to my theory, but that gets into spoilers.
@bigdream_dreambig
@bigdream_dreambig Жыл бұрын
@@Frostbite08 I think you're right. Matt can't perceive whether or not what people are saying matches reality (i.e. it's objectively true), only if people believe what they're saying (i.e. it's subjectively true). Fanatics, the delusional, and the misinformed should all get by his radar.
@LadyDoomsinger
@LadyDoomsinger Жыл бұрын
@@bigdream_dreambig I suspect he would also have trouble with sociopaths - since the "tell" for whether they're lying are things like heart-rate, breathing, sweat: a person who does not react to lying at all would not be noticeable to Matt. Hell, any neuro divergent person whose physical reaction to lying (or even telling the truth) is outside the norm would probably make it hard for Matt. For example, as a person with General Anxiety Disorder and Social Anxiety in particular, I tend to get nervous, breathe harder, have a rapid heartbeat, and sweat just being outside - more so talking to people. Would Matt be able to tell, if a person like me was telling the truth or lying, considering the baseline of my behavior is full of what he considers "tells"... Or even just a regular introverted person? Interesting to consider that his belief that he can tell when someone is lying is actually flawed.

Episode 7: Yup, the ice cream wrapper shows us Stick's problem wasn't that young Matt was bonding with him - rather - it was Stick who was bonding with young Matt. Episode 8: Great writing and incredible depth to the characters in this series. Some very interesting parallels as well as differences between Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk. What can we say about the powerful acting of Vincent D'Onofrio? So good.

“Netflix put their absolute foot in this show” I hope I am misinterpreted your comment because otherwise they didn’t do shit, they only give the money. If you want to give credit to someone it’s to Drew Goddard, he created the show and he wrote-co wrote all 39 of the episodes with other talented writers that cared about these characters. There’s other writers of course and give credit to the directors Phil Abraham, Stephen Surjik, Peter Hoar, Alex Garcia Lopez (he directed s3 ep4 with that amazing 11m one shot), and all the others directors, choreographer, producers, editors, casting director, production designers, composer, etc, THOSE are the ones that CREATED this masterpiece and deserve the credit. The only credit Netflix’s gets is that they accepted the script and gave the money, so if they didn’t think it was a good script and wouldn’t have accept it who knows if other studios would have accept it and we would have never gotten this show so that’s the only credit they get.
