Another feature of Ange's time at Spurs, right from his actual signing, is the consistent initial cry of "I don't know him, he can't be good enough." I think this just highlights how limited, we as fans, our knowledge is. We have a tendency to become fixated on a name and become adamant that he is the player we need, when there are other lesser known players who potentially meet our needs better. This has become a constant theme of Ange's time with us and highlights how he looks and approaches many things in an unconventional way. He's different! And that can make many people feel very uncomfortable. But it can also make the journey even more exciting.😀

I'm all for it as long as you can retain them and we don't become like Dortmund where we just sell them once they've developed and never win anything. And then young players with promise start using us as a stepping stone. Are we going to be able to re-sign Bergvall when Madrid comes calling? probably not. Hope I'm wrong though.

Exactly. A lot of the squad Lange built at Villa weren't exactly big names and they very quickly excelled. Fans just want big names through the door. I personally don't care who they are as long as they can perform. Proven PL players need to be our priority (we've been stung too many times dipping into the French league) and this window is certainly showing we're preferencing proven young talent.

I’m more than happy us with going out and getting these youngsters. The problem with a lot of older players, they’ve lost that playground spark when playing footie. Well, they’ve had it beaten and moaned out of them. Footballs become so robotic recently, it’s good to see ange get the young talent that still has excitement in them, easier to mould to his style and they’re more likely to take a risk. That with anges encouragement will be great to see…fingers crossed🤞🏻

Thanks Alasdair for great video as always. As you say I bet those minority of fans moaning over Odobert signing are the same ones moaning about how we missed out on Eze when in the Championship. And fully agree about Emerson, anyone who willingly plays out of position because the team needs it, and he did well, and is so bright in the dressing room deserves full praise. Will miss his beaming smile in future training ground videos. Biss was stupid but he also needed a real kick up the backside and he now has to use this opportunity to sink or swim in the last chance saloon that he's chosen to walk into. Will he be Clint Eastwood or the extra who gets chucked out the windoqw to land in the horse trough?

Thanks, Alasdair for the video. I have to admit that I know very little about Wilson Odobert but we have heard this story about a young attacking midfielder/winger who is going to be a star before - notably with Adel Taarabt. Obviously, time will tell with Wilson but is he really better than the players already at the club? Anyway, Manor Soloman will definitely need a loan move now. Talking of which, I see that Dane Scarlett only came on in the 90th minute for Oxford United tonight. Hopefully, there will be plenty more minutes to come as he settles in and as an Oxford resident, I will hope to catch some of his games at the Kassam.

Hi Ali, love the insight as always. I really agree with what you said about our scouting getting closer to the Brighton model, finding the next superstars. I do see why people would be worried with the lack of 'marquee' signings, but i think the main reason the brighton scouting works so well is because the young players play every week. We cant have young talent and marquee players and still expect the young players to develop like they do elsewhere while sitting on the bench. I personally think it's incredibly exciting, and points towards sticking with Ange for the long term to head this project!

I don't get all the bellyaching from a certain section of Spurs supporters vis a vis signings. They do my head in. What would they say if they were Man City or Liverpool fans? The Cityzens (whatever) first team movement to date consists of one incoming, Savinho, and three outgoings. To wit, Julian Alvarez and Sergio Gomez have been sold, and Yan Couto has been loaned out. Meanwhile, Liverpool's only senior transfer activity so far has been the sale of Fabio Carvalho to Brentford. Arne Slot looked embarrassed when quizzed about it during this afternoon's presser. Yet somehow, City are still expected to win the league and few if any doubt that Liverpool will secure a Champions League spot. If that was us, the Levy Out brigade would be parading outside the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with placards singing "We want our Tottenham back!" for the benefit of Sky Sports News' cameras and making a beeline for anything that vaguely resembles a microphone. They need a reality check because all they do is piss people off with their doom and gloom.

I was researching how Burnley played out from the back in trying to compare it with how Southampton play out from the back as sort of a metric for our chances of staying up (I am a Southampon fan as you probably gather). Odobert stood out to me as someone who was playing at a level completely above the majority of his team, was always making things happen and his stats don't reflect the performances he put out. He'll be one of if not your best players in seasons to come and I'd go as far to say he could still play a big role for Tottenham this season.

Hi Ali, great optimism from you. I’m not sure I feel justified to say we would finish third until I see better defensive performances - the leaked goals in pre-season seem like same old last season still so hopefully gets fixed. We need to open with a win after all other expected top teams get their win so far. If we get a convincing win to open will feel much better! As for the new signing - what I am most pleased about is he seems like the exact profile every spurs fan wanted with regards to fast, tricky 1v1 player so happy about that - got to just give him a chance and trust in the scouting / data. Hopefully this is no Nkudo signing. If it leaves more money to help ange out with more signings like the LB/LCB that I agree we need then great.

Do you agree that we still need a midfielder and a left sided defender Ali?ps good to see your still playing striker in your early thirties 👍😉

I'm not surprised that they are trying to deals like this because Chelsea would probably have swooped in. I think the announcement was to make sure we could register him before the 12:00pm deadline yesterday. I also think that Eze for £65m+, a transaction which would blow the spending structure as well, is not really worth it. He is a great player but he doesn't actually solve an issue in out attack which is an out and out right winger. I will stress I think, Manu Locatelli or Matt O'Reilly could be the midfielder that we see coming in....

Hey Ali - could you explain which young players that have recent joined spurs would be homegrown/club trained?
