Greg Davies used to be a teacher. Check out Greg Davies on the Graham Norton Show. He tells a story about when he was teaching. He has Ryan Gosling and Jodie Foster in stitches. “Ryan Gosling Can’t Cope With Greg Davies Rodiculous Story”. Check out the same show for “Hilarious Restaurant Menu Fails”.

Romesh Ranganathan was the other comedian who told the story about locking a former pupil in a cupboard. There must be something in British Asian culture that makes them obsessed with locking people in cupboards LOL

Greg Davies did also (accidentally) lock a student in a cupboard. She was called Sat Nav by the other kids because she had no sense of direction, and on that occasion, when he wasnt looking, she tried to leave his classroom and instead of going for the door out, wandered into the cupboard. He shut it and locked it, then went away for a whole hour to get lunch before he discovered she was in there xD

I had a great music teacher who couldn't do enough to help her students when they were struggling. She was deleted by someone who was meant to have been her friend. It really hit us hard when we were told by the headteacher in assembly. Her name was Jane Longhurst, I will never forget her. She helped me a lot.

Speaking of popular teachers; one in particular comes to mind from when I was a kid (Denmark). She was a new and inexperienced English teacher and the first year we had her, her method of dealing with us 11-12 year olds (English started being taught in the 5th grade) was so strict and combative that many lessons would devolve into her shouting at us in anger and frustration and kids getting sent to the headmaster's office. The next year it was like a switch had flipped and perhaps she'd gotten some valuable advice from other teachers, but she was so calm and good spirited and instead of being perceived as the worst teacher, she became the favourite.

A lot of techers I knew back in the day actually thought they were doing something wrong if their students "liked" them. A teacher was authoritative and separate back then. It was as much a matter and sign of respect that they were not disliked but not liked...

I used to be a bit of a terror in first grade (Laverton, Western Australia, early 1970s). To set me straight, supposedly, I’d be locked in the storeroom. Kids could see in from outside and relentlessly mocked my situation. I would end up crying myself to sleep. Fast forward to California, 2010s: my youngest would sometimes act up in class, and they would lock him in a room next to the principal’s office, for HOURS. The room was completely bare, no furniture, nothing. Once we discovered this, all hell broke loose. It ended up getting the principal fired.

At my Grammar School for Boys near Brixton, South East London, every week, from 11 to 12 years old, there was a Geography Test and if half the class got under 10/20 then the whole class re-took the test and irrespective of whether you passed the first time, you got up to 4 strokes of the cane for every half mark under 10/20... I got 2 strokes, aged 12 for, only, getting 23% at an end of first-year English Literature exam:) Nevertheless, over 50 years after we left, in June we attended a Memorial Service for our school at St.Martins In The Fields Church @ Trafalgar Square..

The maths classrooms at our school have walk-in cupboards. I don't know what other name for them would be used other than 'rooms', but some of them are over 20m² and can hold as many books as our pathetic school library (which was cut back massively to make space for a classroom because they didn't want to get a demountable classroom).

Reminiscent of Romesh's story which brings reasonable doubt .Guz and Greg had a few exchanges on Taskmaster about popularity with pupils .They both have some funny stories about their previous careers .

I was naughty at school and eventually got kicked out and left school with nothing but imo the best teachers are the cool teachers cuz they're the ones I felt I could open up to (to some degree), they're the ones that would try to keep me engaged in the learning rather than just removing me from the class, they're the ones i actually tried to behave for

I was told a story when I was nine by one of my old teachers. When he and a couple of friends through their teacher in a bin and held him upside down for ten minutes. Apparently the teacher never knew who did it so they never got into trouble.
