I have heard of Winchester from all of the Viking shows I watch and understood the city as extremely ancient, but never knew much about it, thanks for finally showing me this beautiful and historical city.

5:48 My mother worked in that Tobacco shop from 1947-1953! Also if you had followed the footpath along side the River Itchen past the mill it takes you through the water meadows and eventually to a place called “St. Catherine's Hill”. St. Catherine's Hill is an Iron Age hill fort dating back to 500BC approx. It is a massive hill that you can climb, its quite a climb at 220ft, that gives an amazing view over Winchester. As kids we used to climb it a lot in the summer LOL.

Alfred was the man responsible for the creation of England it was his idea to unite the kingdoms as one he was the king of Wessex (Winchester being the capital)

His idea but he died before. I think there were 2 kings of wessex before the kingdoms reunited

nice video. winchester is on my england bucket list! you missed the jane austen grave in the cathedral, which is a huge draw for many people, including me. in addition, just to the left of p&g wells is the house she lived in her last days.

Actually Winchester was never the capital of England. It could be argued it was the capital of Wessex, but even that claim is doubtful as the Royal Court was wherever the king of Essex happened to be, so really there wasn't an actual capital.
