Someone requested I’d wind this clock in a video. I was more than happy to do it.

Never put your hands on the weights at all
@pjames86734 жыл бұрын
Why not? Is there a specific reason?
@toothlesstoe3 жыл бұрын
Probably because the oils from your hands will cause the weights and chains to tarnish. But maybe he means that it'd be easier to knock the chains out of alignment with the pins of the sprocket. I'd use gloves when handling a chain-driven clock, but I don't see anything wrong with guiding the weight with the other hand.

That's a grandfather clock

I doubt it. The one I own is taller and wider than this one, which is less wide, shorter, and the top of my head goes up to the very top of the dial where the Tempus Fugit sign is displayed(at least I think it does). What makes you think this is a grandfather clock?
@jakejayjay2834 жыл бұрын
If it is over 82" talk it's a grandfather clock . How tall is this?
@pjames86734 жыл бұрын
Uncertain. This clock isn’t high enough to touch the ceiling. I don’t know how tall I am, either. Plus, the way this clock sounds makes me think this is a grandmother clock.
@thesafteycrazycuber4 жыл бұрын
P James most ridgeways are grandfather clocks and while jay is right that its based on height alone, the height is probably five and a half to six feet at the hands and seven to the finial while grand mother clocks stand with the hand shaft at about four feet but there is no other obvious distinction the model you have if it is the 8 day model I think it is, is a grand father clock. I have a similar one the only variance being the chimes and the tempis fugit movement being a moon face instead

I know. But there are times when you just like to rely on your own opinion. And if you want to tell someone by writing a comment, do it in a nice and calm way, and not a mean and bragging way, because if that person is one of those guys who hates that attitude type, there is a chance he could hide your posted comment and block you from posting more comments on his page. I guess some guys had to learn that the hard way.
@lox_50172 жыл бұрын
You don't hold the weights while winding the clock. You just pull on the chain you want the weight to be risen. This guys no nothing about grandfather clocks, good grief.
@pjames86732 жыл бұрын
I actually do know much about clocks, but not everything.
@carwashslayer42352 жыл бұрын
@@pjames8673 You were doing it right don't listen to him. As long you don't pull the weight outwards then your fine.
@brianeifert46672 жыл бұрын
Yes you do actually have to hold the weights while pulling them up since they are so heavy. It’s best to hold them while pulling them up so you don’t damage the movement.
