Currently deciding on this or a Veloster N/wait for Elantra N or the next BRZ for my next car. Leaning towards this as it's a pure lightweight 50/50 RWD sports car but the Hyundai N cars sound amazing, plus there will be used ones to find while the BRZ will be brand new and possibly have markups

I'd say it depends on you want. If you don't need the utility and space from the BRZ or especially the Veloster, I'd say you'd be better with the MX5 just for the 2 seat fun action. It's the least practical car though.

Nah, they changed the badging since they now offer SkyActiv-G and SkyActiv-X drivetrains (instead of just one). In the US, only the G is sold.

Low weight and low center of gravity make 180hp more than enough to have fun. And it’s a car for handling not for drag racing, this car is a concept on itself, the one that relies on low weight and great manoeuvrability, plus, getting an extra 40 hp out of a NA engine might require them to make further mechanical adjustments and probably increase weight, maybe destroying what’s best of this car which is balance. If they could make it 220hp without touching a bit of the balance then I’m in, but if we need to exchange power for handling, I’d rather keep handling. The race for sheer power ended a few years ago for me. I like powerful cars but it’s just a different concept, if you want power over a miata, get yourself a Second hand Z4 with the in-line six, more displacement and more power, and if money allows it, get yourself a Porsche 718, more power and bigger engine, mid-mounted to not screw weigh distribution... but also much heavier overall. In short, more power is nice, but the compromises that might be needed to attain that power could break a miata’s whole recipe for fun with low weight and great balance, so if the question is power for the shake of it, then no, I prefer to just keep this configuration.

Eh, I don't know if I'd necessarily agree with that, he's definitely doing some spirited driving at parts but it seems like he has good control still and takes it down a notch when other cars are around.
