In California, the valley climate can reach temperatures over 100 degrees in the summer regularly. On homes, over 25 years old the excessive heat could damage the felt paper behind the stucco especially on the south-facing walls. With a new construction window method, you roll the dice hoping the paper will be good enough to keep the water out. Sometimes we have to chip stucco back further and further to find good enough felt paper and in the worst cases, we had to replace the whole wall of stucco!

I can't find one video that shows a retrofit window being installed into a stucco wall with a exterior window sill. I have windows that are inset and have a windowsill and I'm wondering if I can use retrofit? I don't know if you can order them custom with smaller exterior flanges or if the flange on there would fit where I have about a 1 and 1/4 inch to work with if I leave the old frame in. Can you help :-)
