Windows 1.0 DR5

This is Windows 1.0 Developer Release 5 in 86Box. This is the fifth build in the Developer Release series and is the earliest build available at the time this video was uploaded. This build was compiled on 1984-10-31 and does not expire.
How I got this to run:
86Box with these settings:

Am I the only one who was a little scared? Maybe I’m just not used to seeing such font and icons. I'm used to classic windows 1.0 and 2.0, where the font is thicker, the icons are more angular, and the interface is more angular.

Indeed. 1984. It seems rather odd. Here are the system requirements: The following equipment is required: IBM XT or AT 512 K memory. Floppy disk configured as DRIVE A:. Hard disk configured as DRIVE C:. Color graphics card. External console connected to COM1: ( debugging ). Microsoft mouse ( bus or serial ). Timer. The following software is required: 2.x or 3.0 MS-DOS Notice how it says "Color graphics card"? Or maybe color graphics card could mean something else? I don't know or understand the reasons for that. I don't really know much about hardware from back then.

It would be interesting to know if the apps from the earlier builds still work on the final version of windows 1.0 or not, as well as the very early build of 3.0 compared to the final. Edit: Actually, It may not be possible for windows 1.0 due to the different file extensions. (Res compared to exe)

There are both res and exe files on this build, so it's still possible. The res seem to be the same exact programs as the exe programs.

Build requests must be submitted at billy-o-reilly.andremor.dev/ Also, most of the time I can get Aero to work, but there are exceptions to some early post reset builds where none of the drivers will work on them and would require a physical machine with old hardware (which I do not have), so keep that in mind. There is no guarantee that I will get Aero working.

@@patrik_lepi_101_ I'm not sure if you are saying that you are using it on a physical PC or on VMware. If on a physical PC, well that makes sense considering it is much older. But those old drivers are not going to work on a modern PC. Also, I am relying on drivers from older versions of VMware. Most of the time they do get Aero to work but I've seen some cases myself where Aero did not work. Some of these builds require LDDM drivers exclusively for Aero and we don't have any that work with VMware. There is a trick done to get some Vista/Longhorn builds to treat XPDM drivers the same as LDDM but it's not guaranteed to work on all builds either.

It's not necessarily just a boot disk. It's a version of MS-DOS which was designed for a certain system. I copied the contents of the floppy to the main drive or else setup will attempt to install DR5 on the floppy. Hard drives weren't really a thing back then so attempting to install on a hard drive can be more complicated. Windows 1.0 DR5 is running off of the MS-DOS version from the floppy.

Exactly. Without any music, this video would not be bearable. Also, this video is heavily sped up as well because everything took long (it would stop for a few minutes after copying clock.exe and clock.res and I had to cut out the waiting)
