The company I work for has about 20 custom written programs. Over half of them we no longer have the source code for since the vendor went under. The managers have decided the hardware will stay on Windows 10 for the next five years at least. (Which is fine since I retire then) To replace 400 machines and get the software rewritten and updated will cost us millions. Simply not an option for a social service agency that relies on fund raising for half of our money. Fund raising is down more than 30% compared to last year.

Agreed. By now, we all know if our PCs are incompatible with Windows 11.👍

Right now I'm building a new PC, but it won't have Win 11 on it. I've just bought another Win 10 Pro license (cost under $4) and will run that for the next year, then we'll see. There just isn't anything I want in Win 11, but there's a lot I don't like- such as the fact that MS is OK with using MY computer to spy on ME, while giving me nothing in return. Also, I've got the bugs worked out in Win 10, but 11 is a whole new can of maggots. No thanks MS, I'm sticking with 10!

If they want people to recheck if they now have the system requirements, maybe they can add 6th and 7th Gen Intel processors to the list. That would help adoption.
@gwgux4 күн бұрын
Well if they change the system requirements in response to nobody upgrading to Windows 11 without buying a new PC, at least the link will be there to get people to where they'll post said changes. This is NOT a guarantee that this is what they're planning, but it would work nicely if that were to happen.

There using win 10 as a testing platform for new stuff that may or may not be used in win 11 in the future.
@krispyford65585 күн бұрын
So basically because we don't want 11 they're going to slowly turn 10 into 11 quintessentially breaking it in the process making us have to move to 11 anyways... 😑

Microsoft is wasting money on dumb, irrelevant changes, and ignoring what really has to be improved. Microsoft is losing focus.

Instead of updating windows 10, they should fix windows 11. They did a somewhat similar thing with xbox one and Xbox series and now people don’t want to upgrade

The only update to "Get ready for Windows 11" I want is one that will stop this blatantly UNNECESSARY cause of E-WASTE! One which changes the requirements to something REALISTIC! Anyone who remembers the Windows XP minimum requirements will know what I mean. XP would run on a minimum systen, but if you actually wanted to use some apps, another 128 MB RAM was a MUST! Windows 11 requirements: 1 GHz or faster 64 bit CPU with two or more cores 4 GB or more RAM 64 GB or more disk space So why the Hell should I send a 12-core 2.7 (3.5) GHz Ivy Bidge Xeon or a 6-core 3.2 (3.8) GHz to E-WASTE?!?!?!? Even a 2-core 3.3 GHz Sandy Bridge i3 is faster than a 'supported' Celeron!!!! I DON'T NEED a TPM (1 or 2); That is just another point of potential failure to lock me out of MY OWN system! I DON'T NEED a Microsoft Account! A local account WORKS and lets me still use MY COMPUTER if I lose Internet access! I DON'T NEED BitLocker, with M$ holding the keys! If I do need to encrypt things, I will use something where I CONTROL MY OWN KEYS! The ARTIFICIALLY HIGH Windows 11 requirements, M$ trying to thwart Local Account installations, CoPilot, Windows Recall, OneDrive ... are all GREAT advertisements for LINUX!

We still can install W11 on unsupported hardware. Microsoft will never block it. It's already written in the code. You unofficially don't need TPM and Secure Boot.
@gwgux4 күн бұрын
"Microsoft will never block it." And what reason do you have to believe that? They own the code, they can change it anytime they want to. This is the same company that went out of their way to make it more annoying to install Windows without using a Microsoft account to really hammer it as something that they REALLY want people to be using.
