I made up my mind years ago what I was going to do. I have three PCs that currently run Windows 10. Microsoft, in it's infinite wisdom, told me that Windows 10 was going to become end-of-life - but I couldn't have Windows 11 either (not that I actually wanted it). At that point I decided what to do. One of these PCs, I use for video and music production. It spends 99% of its time offline. This will become 100% offline. The other two, which get used for more day to day tasks, will become Linux machines, simple as that. There was no way in Hell that I was going to throw away and replace three perfectly good computers just because Almighty Microsoft said so.

I was going to dig my heels in and stick with w10 as long as possible until earlier this year when I saw a BeeLink S12 Mini advertised at a bargain price. It came with w11 Pro preinstalled so for the price I thought I would give it a go. I must admit I was pleasantly surprised and quickly got used to w11 and ended up copying everything I needed from my w10 pc to an external hard drive. When I have time and decide which linux distro I like the look of I will install it on my w10 pc so then I will be better prepared if Microsoft end up doing something really stupid that I don't want. By the way, the BeeLink S12 Mini fits my needs perfectly and it is quiet and lots faster than my w10 pc. Thanks Brian for helping me to make informed choices, keep up the good work.

I don't like to think Windows 10 support is ending. I kind of have a "home" here and I don't want to have to move on to Windows 11 or Linux. My biggest worry is if I go on to Windows 11, how much of my old apps and games will still work? It seems that with every new Windows release, more and more older games and apps no longer work. I'm gonna hold on to Windows 10 as long as I can. If I had my way I'd still be using Windows 7 and XP, they'd still be supported and even the new games and apps would still work on them, if I had my own way.

Absolutely agree with your conclusions. My desktop is 16 years old and my laptop 10 years old so neither can be upgraded to Windows 11. However both working perfectly well with Windows 10 so I have not intention of replacing them. I installed Linux Mint at the beginning of this year alongside Windows 10, dual-boot, and this is working very well for me. I use Linux for most tasks and leave Windows for those apps that do not work in Linux which are very few. I am not a gamer so no issues there. Like you I am not anti-Windows or anti-Microsoft and I am not pro-Linux I simply want an operating system that is safe to use and which works for me and I think I have found a solution which works. We all have different requirements depending on how we use our computers and the internet and others will have different opinions and solutions which I totally respect. It's frustrating that Microsoft has decided to end support for Windows 10 in October 2025, especially considering that around 61% of users are still on this operating system compared to just 36% using Windows 11. Many of us find Windows 10 to be stable and well-optimized; it runs perfectly fine for our needs. In contrast, Windows 11 has been plagued with bugs and stability issues, which make the upgrade feel more like a burden than a benefit. Furthermore, there's a significant portion of users who own older computers that lack the required TPM 2.0 chip, making it impossible for them to upgrade to Windows 11. This situation raises concerns about inequality in access to technology. It's disheartening to feel forced into an upgrade that many of us don't want or need, especially when the current version we've been using for years is still doing its job well. I hope Microsoft reconsiders its decision and extends the support date for Windows 10. While business interests and profit margins are likely driving this decision, it's essential to remember the diverse needs of users. A little understanding and flexibility would go a long way in ensuring a smoother transition for everyone involved.

Great video, Bri. Given what you've just outlined there, I would say that unless you are totally cash strapped and cannot afford to upgrade and have to keep the outdated hardware you currently use, then there is always the fanboy favourite of Linux. However, given that you potentially have 2 years, if you splash out the $30 for that extra year of support, then surely you have enough time to upgrade your PC. You do not have to buy everything all at once and use the sales to get what you can and pick up a few bargains on the 2nd hand market. 2 years should be more than enough time. I have three PC's here that are all Win 11 capable. I bought all the parts for them within 18 months of the announcement date of Windows 10 end of life. My old stuff is being used for video and file servers on the internal network. Do not be afraid of building your own PCs; there are loads of really good guides on KZbin, and don't feel that you have to move to Linux because the fanboys tell you how wonderful it is. It might be a good choice for using as a secondary OS on your outdated hardware if you want to see what it's like.

Had enough of MS shenanigans. I'll use Windoze only for things absolutely necessary and with minimum personal data in use on that OS. Linux is faster, more stable (at least LMDE), safer if not doing stupid things online. I don't do gaming so that makes the switch a breeze.

It has been said if you go to windows 11 you no longer own your computer and Microsoft has proven that to be true time and time again. People are not staying on windows 10 out of habit, but because windows 11 is crap and Microsoft steals more and more of your data and information. Windows 10 has 3 1/2 times the users as windows 11, that tells you a lot. A lot of companies are staying with windows 10 not out of habit. The so called feature updates for windows 10 have already stopped, and the security updates always break something. Or put back crap you've already have taken off, so you have to take it off again. So not getting them is not a bad thing. Microsoft Support, really, when was the last time you got comprehensive support from Microsoft? As I said Microsoft Patches break more thing than they fix. Check some of the patches in the last year. There is a learning curve with Linux but it's less than getting rid of all the bloat in windows 10 and more in 11. And fixing the crap Microsoft sends down to it's customers in features and security patches that you have to fix or re-fix. bottom line you guys need to make up your own minds.

(The higher-ups/IT of)Business / School users are really slow in migrating to the next version of Windows because they gotta make sure they have the budget to do so; make sure all their tools work; and; make sure everyone is comfortable with the latest with a gradual rollout instead of all at once.

Why would you want to use windows 10 after 2025 its stupid to use it when it’s got vulnerabilities in the operating system that get people to hack to your computer I understand people can’t upgrade to windows 11 but it’s not safe at the end of the day why can’t Microsoft allow to upgrade to windows 11 it’s not that bad honestly my opinion when get used to it and it’s more safer

And windows 11 is the saviour ? not sure windows 11 is the answer for many, and 11 has its own set of issues recall being one .many of us have decent pc,s which dont need to go in Landfill but microsoft seem to think people have deep pockets, most modern laptop pc,s are actually inferior in terms of build and have poor longevity but of course they will run 11.
