1:51 people may hate change, but the resistance to changing from Windows 10 to Windows 11 is unprecedented. Like you said, we're 3.5 years into Windows 11, but Windows 10 has had two quarters of gaining market share within the past year. Microsoft isn't learning from this either, instead of giving people choices, having the consumer in mind, and adapting to the reality of what the people want, Microsoft is trying to force what they want onto everyone else, and it's willing to create massive security and operational sacrifices in order to do so.

And that's why the Linux share of the OS market will rise, and rise dramatically, quite possibly to 10% by mid-2026. The response by M$ will be to force companies to sign contracts forbidding them to make the same software compatible with Linux (i.e., forced exclusivity). Adobe would probably be the first one to kiss their ass in this matter. As for the other companies, watch the antitrust and exclusivity lawsuits go flying everywhere.

I think most average users who are still on Windows 10 won't bother to upgrade or pay the $30. They will just run their PC's unpatched until it dies and then they will buy a new one.

I did that with the Windows 7 machine I built in 2009 and which died a few weeks ago. I just got the essential security updates for Windows 7 (which Microsoft were still providing) and that was it. All the programs I was using under Windows 7 on that machine were installed soon after building it - with some updated to later versions.

Windows 10 is the end of my Microsoft journey. It's a shame too. I've been using Windows since version 3.1. I'm not downgrading to Windows 11. I don't want 1) Copilot 2) Onedrive 3) Recall 4) Edge 5) Bitlocker, or 6) a Microsoft account. Microsoft has gone insane. This is my computer--not theirs. I've already switched to Linux. Very happy on Mint, MX, and Endeavour.

The end of life for Win 10 is premature, especially considering they meant to make it the last Windows ever. But the last Windows does not move pc and laptop units. Hence 11. When I got rid of the Win XP pc it was so old it struggled opening a regular news website, let alone KZbin. It was not the primary pc of the household, but it was still being used for word dicuments, pdfs and browsing. But could no longer be used and too old for modifications. It was within a year of XP end of life. Now I wish I kept it as a collectible and for nostalgia. I upgraded our 2011 Dell Win 7 laptop to Windows 10 in 2020, on the last day before Win 7's end of life. Notice how I was able to skip an entire Win8 and still fit the requirements of Win 10 with a decade old laptop? Yeah. That laptop is still used almost every day, to this day. And you are telling me I need to scrap my perfectly fine desktop PC bought in 2016 because it does not meet the requirements of Win11?Not even Win 12, but Win 11? Just to sustain capitalism and further line the pockets of the rich and get datamined and pay electricity bills to run bloatware for Win 11? Nah, fam.

After 4 months of Windows 11 (enforced as my previous 15 year old Windows 7 computer died), the one thing that stands out is continually finding sliders that I have to turn off to stop Microsoft either overtly invading my privacy or putting up annoying messages all the time. Just as soon as I think I have them all turned off, something else comes up. it's like Whack A Mole. The other serious issue I have noticed is the right click context menu caused Explorer to freeze - it seems to be caused when a number of very large files with very long file names are sequentially right-clicked. I had to go back to the old classic context menu to resolve that since I already had the latest Windows 11 updates (and the classic context menu stopped the freezes). As for OneDrive, I appear to have managed to escape that. But I had been happy with Windows 7. There is nothing I do on this new computer that could not have been done under Windows 7.

This. Since 2020 I have upgraded or built a couple dozen new systems for my business, home office, family and friends. All of them running Linux Mint and a few with Win10 LTSC VMs for for specialized $$$$ Windows only software. I have no need for Windows 11 so this is the end of line for me with Microsoft. I suppose if I really needed to I could run Windows 11 in a VM but at this point I have no need to.

Some people may have a WIndows 10 PC that works well and don't want to upgrade to Windows 11 or buy a new one. There is no indication that a Windows 12 will come out in 2025 and right know it looks unlikely. Back then, people continued to use Windows XP until support ended meaning they didn't upgrade to Windows 7 until 2014 or 2015.

I think the problem is Win 11 Vs Win10 is as bad as Win8.0 Vs Win7 in most people’s eye probably a good lot of similarities I just think maybe Microsoft for once might be realising or pick up on it this time even if slowly as Win8.0 and Win11 were both fairly bad softwares that forced in them things people did not want for example and it would not surprise me if Win 11 support is short lived like Win8.0 it has to be as that may be the only way windows survives as many new competitors are coming in the ring ; Google, Linux mint, Steam Os ,Nintendo,Apple, Android even technically Xbox and many others Microsoft does not have time I would think to mess around this time as they have actual competitors to counter them this time for a far tighter market compared to when Windows 8.0 came out which had support drop before I think any other Win software that came after 1998

So, as a Vista and 8.1 enjoyer, I personally think Windows 11 is the biggest Microsoft dumpster fire ever made. I will not be using any Windows past Windows 10. I run IoT LTSC on all the computers in my house, and we will be doing so until 2032. Plenty of time to start watching Linux and make the transition over time. The big thing is gaming, despite what people say, it just isn't up to snuff for me over on the Linux side.

My employer forced all the company laptops to "upgrade" to W11, and now I constantly get bugs & faults that MS doesn't bother fixing. In my many previous years using W10, I never had any problems. Microsoft no longer listens to user's feedback, it only wants all our valuable telemetry data. Reporting anything on their support portals doesn't even get a response from MS.

What Microsoft doesn't understand folks, like me, have programs that function well and have no need to upgrade (though I hate that term). We have purchased programs that work well and continue to function. If you only do word processing and web browsing Windows 10, and even earlier systems work fine. In my audio studio I have even and older system, but the programs on that computer will not run on newer operating systems. If you are a gamer or into graphic arts yes you might need something new. But that is not 90 percent of the country.

I'm sorry but 'hating change' is a cop-out thing to say and not an honest reason why I, and many others won't move from windows 10. MS truly removed functionality in this new horrible OS called 11. Windows 11 is worse than windows 10 period no matter what you say. One thing that is an absolute must is moving the taskbar to the side and being able to show full paths on opened folders. I'm a power user an have to see all opened folders at a glance. I also HATE those thin scroll bars! MS must be on drugs and don't care about users.

Like on XP once the support goes, everyone will move on to 11. After all, except who has a REALLY old PC, W11 is W10, it's not like Vista vs XP. People just like to b*tch about Microsoft. Apple can do all the BS they do and people give a Pass. Linux can be this nightmare it can be, that need a bunch of ducktape to run software and people give a pass..
