The most recent nvidia drivers wouldn't even install for me, and it broke installing other versions of the drivers. So when I noticed that after uninstalling the driver that was there, I was forced to reinstall windows. Maybe this one feature could've helped. That said I actually did forget to try if DDU would fix the problem. But I had already wanted to reinstall windows for a few weeks already, so it did give me the excuse I needed. 🙃

@@briacabzsame here. I was using a decade old Acer (Aspire 4736z) laptop for my university study (and some gaming) and it was doing fine with Windows 7 for many years (even after official support ended) until Microsoft was going hard making it inaccessible AF (telling Devs to end browser support for the OS). After upgrading to Windows 10 my laptop became sluggish AF. So I replaced my SSD and added 2GB more RAM (total 4GB). But it was still slow. So I finally decided to ditch that old machine for a $600 new one (Acer Aspire 5).

This function was already in Windows but you have to put it in safe mode. Plus since Win 10 there's a function called "reset" Windows. This is not the same as rebooting the system this function will erase all updates, programs and files, then they add the ability to erase everything except your file and backup. The only this they did here was, make it more accessible.

It's actually a good practice to reinstall your Windows machine once a year. Since Windows is the most used OS, and thus there is quite much Malware circulating around that could bother your system or compromise your system. Using Linux though, is also a very good practice, since there isnt that much malware because it's not used as much and you have generally much more control over your system. Unfortunately, Linux is not the best option for everyone, especially not for gamers or people that are not as tech savvy. I know that Ubuntu has become very user friendly in recent years, and I use it too on my Laptop for university or Work related stuff, and I am also aware of using virtual Machines for programs that are not supported on Linux, but there are for example still some issues, especially for gamers: valorant for example simply wont Work in vms, Games Work better when being Run natively and the missing Support from Nvidia for Linux (drivers and stuff) is pure insanity. But using Linux is the best way, to make things better and through more people using it, it could eventually get more support from big Tech companies Like Riot Games or Nvidia.

I used to have a USB memory stick that I had all my default software and settings on. I created a script so I could take a fresh install of Windows to about 90% setup as I wanted it unattended. It was an absolute sod to get to work properly, and later I found that some updated versions of the software it installed would break the script. It would be nice to revisit the idea, but life's WAY too short for that kind of messing about now.

Conversely, my Windows 10 system is stable despite a series of upgrades and in-place "fresh" installs plus partial restores going back to Windows 3.0. Last install from media was going from XP x64 to 7, which had no proper upgrade path. My only current issue is due to overclocking: my AVX multiplier is set too high and, because it _very rarely_ causes problems, I've been too lazy to dial it in. Think I'll work on that today, actually.

I use 10 and haven't reinstalled in many years. When my hard drive showed signs of failing, I bought an SSD, cloned the hard drive, and then replaced it with the SSD. It's been working fine the last couple of years. I don't even reboot the computer more than once every few months. The memory eventually gags if I have a bunch of programs running at the same time, have close to a hundred browser tabs open, play music, and download files simultaneously. Then I have to save everything, close everything, and completely shut down and start back up fresh. 10 just works well for me.
