Windows 8.1, and new!? Dang. I used that OS until about 2019 when I got forced to go to Windows 10 for software I use. I found it way more stable than Windows 10 and used way less resources in my experience.

Agreed. I've a USB drive of OS X Lion (newest version of OS X that Apple ever officially sold physical copies of) and that'll remain sealed as well.

I'm currently running my retail copy of 8.1 Professional on my desktop as my workhorse OS. I don't like the stock UI in ANY way, but considering how easily salvageable it is with Open Shell (and AeroGlass if you want Aero back), I, funnily enough, consider it the best way to run Windows 7 if you want or need it as 8.1 is really just 7 underneath the hood with a few nice improvements.

With the copy Windows 8.1 you got there, you basically have a free copy of Windows 11. This is because all users of Windows 8.1 can upgrade to Windows 10 for free and all users of Windows 10 can upgrade Windows 11 for free. Also the users who originally used Windows 7 and Windows 8/8.1

At my old job I remember we had either a VLSC or MSDN subscription and back in those days that meant Microsoft sent CD after CD in the post, we had filing cabinets full of them, these days you just click a few buttons online and download a boring ISO file

@@rpst39 My experience has been that they lock out the SIM card as soon as it is placed in an unsupported phone. Your mileage may vary on other carriers or in other countries.

Same with Verizon. They switched all the 3G accounts to $5 every 20 minutes a couple months back, and will shut it down entirely end of next year. However... I'm thinkin' you could still do Google Voice or other Wifi calling with it? I have an old ZTE that's in the same boat. 3G so no longer usable as a phone, but has terrific wifi range so I keep thinking I should repurpose it...

After having seen these Motorola Razr V3 I surely will have nightmares next night. So many bad memories about them. I used to work in a shop selling TONS of phones back in the days when these came out. About 95% of them came back with defects of many different kind. If you upload the MSDN Library CDs, I hope, you can provide a link to it. Had one version back in the days, too (around 2000/2001) and would love to read through that stuff again :)

Try to go to an electronics recycling and disposal facility. I saved 3x PS1 and HP PDA from there, completely free. Everything in working order, just a little dirty.

I had someone donate me a Sabrent USB 3.0 drive unit like what you got. It has been so helpful to test drives with my ThinkPad without needing to set up a bench system. It works for any drive, as well as SATA optical drives. Unfortunately IDE optical drives won't connect properly since the molex power connection on the drvive is blocked by the unit.

I was stunned to know that Michael got his iPhone for $6. Even yours, for 18 bucks is not a bad deal. While many people may not care, I actually like to (and wish to) own old and cheap flagship phones like the iPhone 5s although I don't own any of them yet. They can come in very handy sometimes as you can use them as a secondary camera or a microphone or anything else.

That iPhone 5s was so cheap because it's a 3G phone, and the 3G networks are already mostly shut down (the last of Verizon's screw-you 3G not-quite-service ends end of 2022). However, I'd think you could use it with something like Google Voice? that might be fun to see set up.

They are 4g LTE. They are being cut off because they don’t support calling with LTE, only 4g. It’s kinda stupid in my opinion, since they won’t even be cutting off those towers.

A few days ago, I downloaded Disc Image file of Windows 8.1. That was a bit time consuming but luckily I can Downloaded that. I installed it on my Core 2 Duo PC and it runs Smoother than Windows 10 Updated version that I've got a Months ago

I've got a laptop with 8.1 Enterprise and yeah, it's better than Win10, or Win8. Came with it, and expected to get rid of it since I dislike 8 and 10, but 8.1 is actually pretty nice. (Except that if it's on Wifi, it hogs ALL the bandwidth.)

Oof, the yellowing on those RAZR keypads. I wanted a RAZR so bad as a kid but ended up with a chunkier, half the cost Moto phone instead. Same OS and camera and screen though. But the outer screen was just monochrome. Guess the whole “halo product” thing worked on me.

Here in Mexico we used to have Prodigy Infinitum by Telmex, in the 90s and mid 00s, but now Telmex renamed the service to only Infinitum. I think the people at Telmex bought the rights of the brand and that's how we got with the Prodigy brand in Mexico.

There is absolutely no difference between the mic you use normally, and the mic you used for a bit in the video. It's absolutely marginal. Audiophiles will probably think I'm am idiot and call me one too, but to a normal human's ears, it sounds very good, and very close to your normal mic.

No you’re right, it’s very subtle. The capsule inside might be identical, with the differences caused by the housing. The AT2020 has a marginally “airier” sound. Slash the other one is a little more “closed in”, but not by much, you can near sibilant sounds are marginally less “sharp”. But that’s exactly what you want for a stage mic, which is going to be held closer to the mouth and everything. The cardioid pattern is probably more selective and narrower, but again that’s what you want for a stage mic or anywhere with background noise.
